บท 25: Nick Fury
Returning back to Obi's dead body, he called Pepper and asked if she was safe, which she was, immediately after agent Coulson drove in with the black sedans again and said he would take care of the incident that just happened and they'll be meeting soon enough.
The next day
Tony could be seen in his mansion watching the television about an incident that happened in Stark Industries being spoken by Colonel Rhodes while Miss Potts was tending to his injuries.
Minutes later agent Coulson came back in again and gave Tony a piece of paper saying it's his alibi in the press conference that awaits him with a bunch of lies that was not exactly his style but he put up with it and went to the press conference after Pepper dressed and conversed with him to keep to the alibi strictly.
Walking to the stand he brought out his sheet of paper saying all he wanted and started talking about how there were speculations saying that it was his bodyguard than was iron man and playing hero but all in all he only wanted to say
"I am not iron man"
Following that he stepped down from the stand and went back into the room he just came from while Rhodey was busy arranging the talks with the press.
Though he was not surprised by the reply, it still did stun him and of recent Tony doesn't seem to be good at calming the press.
Minutes later after getting back home, a supposed man with an eyepatch sat comfortably in his house.
"I am not Iron man, it's a good thing you followed the alibi" the man said to Tony Stark
"And who the hell are you?" Tony asked
"Nick Fury the director of S.H.I.E.L.D and I'm here to talk to you about the avengers initiative"
Tony then took a seat and remembering Agent Coulson said they'll be seeing much sooner he knew this was probably it.
"So where's Agent Coulson? I don't see him around"
"I see you've gotten used to him, but no he is busy at the moment"
Nick Fury said as he walked towards him
"I'm listening"
Tony said unfazed judging the man strictly by his gut feeling
"Mr. Tony Stark, for a second there I thought you wouldn't go along with the alibi but since you did, I want to let you know you aren't the only superhero out there and you are now apart a whole new universe"
By now fury was already in front of him
"How so?" Tony asked
"You already met Agent Coulson and you've probably guessed the aim of S.H.I.E.L.D but as for the Avengers, you could say it's a team of gifted people like you created for the sole purpose of protecting this world"
Nick Fury said while walking to the door
"Is this an invitation?" Tony asked?
"Oh no, it's more like a preamble you could say, and now doesn't seem to be the best time to let you know much, I'm just letting you know, you're on our radar and we will be seeing much more often nowadays then"
