บท 33: 33. He's Your Fiancé

The doctors left the manor after conducted a thorough check up on Alexandra. She was puzzled during the process but after her father's persuasion, citing it's just a routine check up he had decided to do for the family, she quietly allowed the doctors to do the examination on her. After they left, her father had instructed her to stay in her room to rest. She wanted to protest but somehow, she did feel slightly tired and eventually drifted off to sleep.

"What's happening Marcus? She did't remember anything that has happened after she started her internship." Sir Dominic asked, concerned about her daughter's sudden amnesia.

Regardless of what had happened earlier between Dr Gerald and Alexandra, Sir Dominic didn't blame his good friend, Dr Marcus Lee. Furthermore, Dr Marcus was a renowned neurologist in the field and the best person to treat Alexandra.

"Dominic, I've reviewed the results of her scans and tests," Dr Marcus Lee begins gently, his voice calm yet tinged with guilt. "The cause of her amnesia is related to the severe trauma she experienced."

Dr Marcus continued, "The trauma she went through—both physically and emotionally—has triggered a response in her brain. It's a protective mechanism, a way for her mind to shield itself from overwhelming distress."

Benjamin, who was also present in the room, suddenly felt overwhelmed with sadness as he struggled to grasp the implications of Dr Marcus' words. "So... she might never remember?"

Dr Marcus reached out to place a comforting hand on Benjamin's shoulder. "It's difficult to predict." He admitted gently. "Amnesia following trauma can vary widely. Some memories may return over time, especially with therapy and support. Others may remain inaccessible."

Benjamin nodded slowly, his shoulders slumping with the weight of the news.

"We have specialists who can help Alexandra navigate this process. Therapy and rehabilitation can often stimulate memory retrieval and improve cognitive function." Dr Marcus explained further.

"No!" Benjamin's sudden loud voice startled everyone in the room.

"Benjamin?" Sir Dominic who was processing the information looked at Benjamin.

"No, it's better if she doesn't remember. Dr Marcus, you said it yourself, she's protecting herself by forgetting all the bad memories. If the memories come back to her naturally, we can't stop it. But for now, we must not do anything to trigger those memories." Benjamin explained to the two older gentlemen.

"But Benjamin, she doesn't even remember you." Sir Dominic asked.

"Yes, I know. We need to do what's best for her. This is not about me." Benjamin said.

"She's treating you like a stranger now. How are you going to deal with that?" Sir Dominic asked further.

"I made her fell in love with me before. I'll do that again. But Sir Dominic, can I request something?" Benjamin looked earnestly at the older man.

"Yes my boy, what is it?" Sir Dominic was touched by this young man's selfless love towards his daughter.

"I don't want Alex to go back to National Hospital. Can you get her to agree to do her internship at Maxim Hospital?" Benjamin finally told his plan to Sir Dominic.

"In Northernlands?" Sir Dominic exclaimed in surprise.

"Yes, I really hope you will agree. I will protect her and make sure she's happy and safe." Benjamin implored the older man.

"Dominic, a change of scenery would be good for Alex. It'll be a new beginning for her." Dr Marcus interjected and assured his best friend.

"How would you explain your identity to Alex?" Curious, Sir Dominic asked.

"Let's just tell her that I'm her fiancé. That way I can stay close to her without resistance." Benjamin said, smiling faintly.

He couldn't believe he's now back to square one with Alexandra. However, one thing he's good at was persistence and determination. He will get her back no matter what.

This time, he would use his real identity and do whatever he can to make her fall in love with him. Furthermore, that will also explain why he was in her bed this morning.

"As for why she can't remember me, we can say she fell down and hurt her head yesterday during our celebratory party. I will apologize to her about being in her bed this morning." Benjamin said.

"Will she believe that? She's a doctor after all." Doubtful, Sir Dominic asked.

"If you say that I'm her fiancé, she has to believe it as the truth. She would have to accept the explanation since she can't accuse you of deceiving her." Benjamin said, staring at Sir Dominic.

Sir Dominic sighed and finally nodded his head. He couldn't think of a better way. He surely couldn't ask Benjamin to forget about his daughter and move on. He's clearly determined to be with her no matter what.

When Alexandra woke up, she found her father sitting by her bed, looking concerned.

"Daddy? Is everything okay?" She asked.

"Alex, actually you kind of fell down and hurt your head yesterday. That's why I had all the doctors came in today to check on you, honey." Sir Dominic decided to tackle the issue immediately.

"I did? Really? I can't remember." Alexandra said, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Yes, that's why I was worried. Yesterday, we had a small celebratory party at home. Probably it's the wine, you fell down. You made us so anxious after that." Sir Dominic said with a straight face, although he felt so guilty inside for this white lie.

"Celebratory party? For what Daddy?" Alexandra tried searching her memories but simply found none about this.

"Silly girl, you don't even remember that you're now engaged, do you?" Sir Dominic awkwardly laughed.

"Engaged?? Me?? To whom??" Alexandra suddenly stood up straight while staring at her father. This is so unbelievable!

"Prince Benjamin Wright Vern Dupont. The guy you saw this morning." Sir Dominic said while patting her hands.

"He's a prince, and my fiancé?? How bad was my injury? I seriously can't remember anything!" Alexandra exclaimed in surprise.

"Haha, yeah, that's why I was so worried this morning. Dr Marcus said the human brain is a tricky thing. You should know that better than me. Maybe in time you'd remember. As for Benjamin, poor guy, he was concerned for you when you fell unconscious and he insisted to stay with you the whole night. I didn't stop him since you're officially engaged to him." With that, Dir Dominic stood up.

"Oh..." Alexandra's eyes were downcast, processing the whole thing. One day she was accepted for internship, next she was engaged. This is getting too bizarre. But it should be true. If not, how else would a stranger be allowed to stay in her room? Her father would've killed him first! Guilt started creeping in when she remembered how she had reacted towards the young man this morning.

"Alex, he's outside. Can you meet him?" Sir Dominic said while walking towards the door.

Alexandra looked up and nodded her head.
