The next day, Grace woke up early to prepare breakfast for Charles and Jace. Luckily Mrs Bert was already in the kitchen with Vera and Mary to assist her.
She was grateful for how they still came out to help. If it were others, they would have ganged up against her for taking over their duties.
"What are we making?" Vera asked.
"I think she should repeat yesterday's breakfast since Mr Brandon seems to like it a lot," Mary suggested.
"Yes, and make a little extra for just the three of us," Vera, her accomplice added.
"I knew you had no good intentions offering to help out, so it's all because of what you stand to gain?" Mrs Bert teased.
"How can you say that, Mrs Bert? We came here to help, out of a clear conscience, but we only reminded Grace to do the needful. Afterall, like they say, you should not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treads the vine."
