Mo Yao was dazed by the sudden slap that sent her staggering to the ground, the thermos tumbling from her hands. Then her collar tightened around her neck, her breathing hindered instantaneously, and through the throbbing pain in her face, Mo Yao could only see the shadow of a fan-like hand rising again, and she almost instinctively shut her eyes.

Around her, a chorus of gasps erupted. It was midday, and the square was not lacking in passersby, but most steered clear of her, with several even giving her a wide berth. In these times, no one wanted to invite trouble.
