บท 2: Books.

"UGH!!!" Alex almost threw up right there. He saw a staircase, and from there, an impossibly strong smell of blood wafted out—a smell that would make even warriors nauseous.

"What... The heck..." Alex looked around the walls and saw handprints—bloody handprints. Most of them were from adults, but some seemed to be from kids, even infants.

Alex's heart immediately filled with fright. He was someone who never feared anything in his past life, but now... he felt fear. He was in the body of an 8-year-old in a place that he suspected to be a den of serial killers.

How could he not be scared right now?

"No... I need to get out." Alex made up his mind and immediately dashed towards the door.

But before he left, he didn't let his mind be taken over by panic. He looked around to find any weapon to be used against people of this world he didn't know.

Alex looked around and didn't discover much. He was a little hopeful; even a flintlock pistol would be a gift sent from the heavens. But, to his disappointment, there was nothing in this place...

Except.

"Oh my god, of course, it's in the walls." Alex almost facepalmed and took down a sword from above the fireplace.

He prayed that it wasn't decoration and unsheathed it.

"YES!!! IT'S A NEW ONE AT THAT!!!" Alex was filled with happiness. This sword was shining from the light illuminating everything in its path. It was crystal clear and not rusty at all.

He immediately tried to wield it.

BANG!!!

And the sword fell.

"Damn... DAMN!!! DAMN!!! I forgot I was in the body of a kid." Alex gritted his teeth and took the sword up. He didn't have any choice now; he needed to escape. Just where did he end up? He wanted to know that.

Alex rushed towards the door, opening it immediately.

BSSHHHHH!!!

A wind of absolute dread washed over him. He needed to close his eyes for a second; it was day right now, and it looks like he hadn't experienced light for long periods.

His eyes needed to adjust.

And once they did...

"Damn..." Alex almost pissed himself.

Even though sunlight could be seen up in the sky, around him was the atmosphere of a ghost town. Wails of wind were heard around a grey-blue-looking brick house. People walked around looking like zombies with their pale skin and blue eyes. The well he could see was broken apart, and screams were coming out of it occasionally.

Alex felt his mind shake. Just where in the world was he?

He didn't stand on ovation and immediately dashed towards a forest. Along with the sword, he took some food he could see on the table.

Who knows what the heck this food was made of, but it was good enough for him not to starve.

People in the village looked at Alex, and one old man smiled.

"Alexander is running away again..." He said it with a kind smile.

"Ahhlll... just when is he going to learn you can't go past this forest." The young man who was transporting broken wooden planks from the wheel said this.

"He is going to be back in a few days." Kids who were running around also mentioned this.

Everything was peaceful right now.

Even sunlight illuminated this place much better.

"Finally, those gray crows pulled their fat bodies out of the forest; we can have a trace of sunlight," said a young man whose face was transforming from ghostly pale to normal skin color.

--

"DARN!!! DARN!!! AGHHH AGHHH AGHHH!!!" Alex was running with all his might.

He was feeling extreme dread in his heart; he just wanted to escape.

"Phew... let's rest for a while." Alex looked around; the atmosphere in the forest was vastly different from the one in the village. It looked like a normal forest, with nothing special about it.

"Finally... I escaped from that dump..." Alex sighed in relief as he leaned on a tree.

He put the sword down; it was because of this sword that he lost all of his stamina this soon.

"What do I do now..." Alex was quite lost. He wanted to calm down, but he couldn't. He was thrown into this new world without instructions, not knowing what to do.

He felt like a man looking around, seeing everything but not knowing what they were.

It was suffocating.

"Hm?" Alex noticed something; when he closed his eyes, a blue light appeared in them. He felt this before too when he blinked, but he just associated it with light coming through his pupils.

But now he had his head down on his feet; how could light come through the fabric, especially wool?

"What the heck?" Alex jumped up when he noticed that there were discernible words on the light screen he sensed. It said different words...

"Co---In??? Darn, I can't see it clearly... what is this? It reminds me of a stats window in the video games, but in a book form?" The moment Alex said this, he felt something flash in front of him; he instantly opened his eyes and jumped back.

"DARN!!! That scared me..." He yelled out and looked around.

In front of him was a book; it was about 3 meters in size, quite big for a book. It had covers that depicted some scenes and had a brown color.

"What the heck..." Alex's mouth twitched; he didn't understand what was happening. Except for the level, this didn't look anything like video games at all.

But he kept his calmness and asked out.

"What are you?" He hoped to get some answers.

And he was satisfied.

~ Book of Almanaxh, First Chapter. Introduction.

The book was created by a !$@#$@#, designed to give guidance to the Traveler of Worlds. The book has a few main functions that the wielder will discover along the way. The only thing important Wielder needs to know now is that power can be bought. Money can be used to buy anything—anything you want. Gain coins, and gain immortal power beyond anything.

--

The book turned a page and introduced itself like this.

"What the heck... I don't understand anything at all. What kind of a stupid saying is that?" Alex was frustrated; these kinds of cryptic messages were most annoying, and he had had enough of deciphering cryptic messages at home; he didn't need that now.

"Explain it more clearly," Alex asked.

But the book stopped and went back to the same page where the level was, not saying anything else.

"Sigh... close," Alex said, and the book closed and disappeared.

Alex leaned on a tree once again and started thinking.

But something interrupted him.

"OUCH!!!" He jumped up with pain as something bit his behind.

"Darn, darn, it's so painful, what was that." Alex looked down and saw an ant—a bullet ant.

"Shabby little creature, what did I do to you, go die!!!" Alex squished the ant immediately.

"Huh?" He turned around to see the book back, but now it was only displaying that message.

"Do I gain coins by killing things?" Alex asked, shocked; he tried to touch the book, but nothing happened; it was fully ethereal. Alex closed his eyes and concentrated.

"Open." He called out.

The book opened to the same page.

He gained something.

"Open newbie packet," Alex called out; he didn't know what that was, but he needed to understand it.

Lotto is moving..... moving... moving... DING!! DING!! DING!! You won, the Magic Book of Prehistory [1]

--

Alex looked around to see a book appear in front of him; it was fully green and had some writings on it.

"A book? Darn, I was expecting at least a sword." Alex sighed and opened the book.

A feather pen appeared inside the book, connected with it with some golden-looking little chains.

Alex read out what it said in the book.

"Oh... Finally!!! This is precisely what I wanted." Alex was happy; he didn't know anything about this world. Finally, he would gain some kind of sentience about what was happening in this place.

"Let's write my name first... wait... will my name work? It's not going to show me the entire life on Earth, is it?" Alex wrote his name and...

The book turned for a moment, and immediately after, colored scenes appeared in them. It looked like they were colored with pastels from the sides of the paintings.

But they were incredibly realistic, like a movie.

Alex watched this movie attentively and finally after a few minutes.

"Oh darn... looks like I made a mistake." He smiled and looked back.

End Of Chapter.
