ELIJAH'S POV

Wheeling myself down the balcony, I navigated the crowded party with practiced ease, nodding to acquaintances and ignoring the curious stares. The noise from the ballroom spilled outside, a discordance of laughter and clinking glasses, but I found comfort in its familiarity. Just as I was about to re-enter the party, a familiar figure appeared in my path.

Deborah stood there, her expression a mix of apprehension and apology. Her auburn hair fell loosely over her shoulders, and her green dress shimmered in the dim light.

"Hey," she whispered.

"Hi," I replied, managing a small smile.

"Elijah," she began, a hint of regret in her voice, "I know I shouldn't have come. I know my father is responsible for this but I still feel this is my fault. The last thing I want to do is cause more issues between you and your parents."
