IMOGEN'S POV

Of course, I wasn't. I was going insane here. Plus, I had a million questions. Like, what the fuck he was doing here? But none of that seemed to seep out of me.

His eyes were fixed on me with such intensity that I felt my voice catch in my throat each time I tried to form a lie. For a man who was only interested in me so he could torment his brother, his eyes looked brutally honest. So raw and true that I couldn't stomach telling a lie.

I shook my head, fresh tears spilling over. "No, I'm not."

He reached out, his hand resting gently on my shoulder. "Do you want to talk about it?"

The sincerity in his voice broke further through my defenses, and I nodded, unable to hold back any longer. "It's just... everything. My mother, Elijah, this whole sham of a life. I can't do it anymore."
