บท 3: Go Or Not To

He sat at the edge of the window and gazed from within the worn-down castle.

The inside of the castle is decorated with years of dust, cobwebs and the lingering darkness brought about by the absence of light. The exterior is covered in rat holes and the tiles are broken in several areas.

In a way, it could be seen as the castle that survived the aftermath of a devastating explosion.

Siveth walked up to where he was sitting. She growled as she tried to get within his space.

"No Siveth, you are wrong. I wasn't thinking about her".

About a day has passed since his encounter with the lady who dubbed herself Historia.

Ever since then, he has not once had another opportunity to meet with her or anyone else. It's not like that is a problem since this is pretty much his life.

For as long as he could remember, dating back to when he was only two-plus years old. That is when he was thrown into the northern palace and left to fend for himself.

He started living alone and only had Siveth joining him three years after his lone lifestyle.

Alone! He was bored, lonely as would have expected. But with Siveth around him? He has had a blast of a day all through.

He had once lamented his misfortune and what sort of fate cursed him to have to put up with this life.

But then- he understood. How could he not?! When the reason has been constantly made known every time he comes across another.

The horrors on their faces when they see him! The disgust, hate, and passion to have him immediately removed!! It was all written on their faces and Mikeal could see it all at a single glance.

"I do wonder, why are you the only one not affected by my presence". He said, pondering as Siveth drooled all over his face.

"Still! Whatever that reason is~ I am grateful it kept you by my side". He said, controlling her pacing with a peck on her forehead.

He reached out his hand to pick up a ball that was sitting beside him, on the placement he was seated.

"You want to play fetch don't you". He said with a giggle at the growling blue-striped tiger.

"Okay then, go fetch". He threw the ball out the window and into the bushes, at a distance far off from the castle.

There was a sizeable gap of about thirty feet plus distancing the ground from the window side Mikeal sat on.

Nonetheless! That did not stop Siveth from going through the window and landing on the ground without an injury.

She so effortlessly did it, staying through to the general notion that cats always land on their feet. And she as a bigger cat... Did not let down her species.

Mikeal sighed as he tracked Siveth with his eyes. She had gotten to the ground and ran into the bushes in search of the ball.

"Great. I should have about seven minutes to make a run for it before she gets back". He deduced, aware of the time interval it would take for Siveth to get to the ball and bring it back to him.

Mikeal got up and walked down the rundown hall. Every step he took emitted a creaking sound from the furniture he was stepping on.

He had lived in the dark for so long that he now finds it effortless to navigate his path through.

Mikeal went into his room and straight to the cupboard where his clothes were kept. He surveyed and saw that he was suffering from an extreme absence of luxurious clothing.

He had no reason to have clothes kept in since he never attended any social gathering. His title as a prince is merely nothing but an accessory tied to him from birth.

The truth is... He is but one of the many bastards fathered by the king. Mikeal's mother happened to be one of the many women who fell prey to the seductive lips of the king.

A pity that she died moments after his birth. No! Perhaps it is no pity even. Mikeal is aware, or rather he has been made aware that the death of his mother was no coincidence.

She died because she was afflicted with the curse that had followed him from birth. In a straight telling... He killed his mother. His birth brought about her death, hence his responsibility to bear and remember.

He closed the cupboard and took a look at the clothes he had on.

"This should be enough". He reasoned.

It is not a good idea to go there dressing all glamorous and attracting attention here and there. The last thing he wants is for people to have their eyes on him.

That said! The clothing he has on doesn't exactly scream luxury nor does it say anything about wretchedness.

It's more of connoting the humble side of himself, tilting him at a scaling balance.

"I am not going because she told me to. I am only going because I want to". He said, convincing himself as he stared out the window.
