"Kill me? I think you're going to be the first to die." The man in black raised his right hand, a bright red glow suddenly lit up, and a fireball appeared in the palm of his hand. The fireball kept on growing, becoming as big as a human head in the blink of an eye. The skull mask on the man's face appeared even eerier under the radiant red glow.
Startled, Liao San jumped back, his face a mix of fury and fear. "You're a mage. Did Qingfeng Vegetarian Restaurant send you to deal with me?"
The man in black smirked coldly. "No. The heavens want your demise. It doesn't matter who I am. You are at the end of your life. Go ask in hell." The flames suddenly flared, and the fireball sped towards Liao San with a loud whirring noise. Although mages are revered, if they are not super mages, they are not at an inherent disadvantage against a samurai in a one-on-one fight. Despite this, Liao San did not fear. He believed that his fighting Qi would easily crush the opponent's fireball, then he would slay the mage.
The fireball was approaching fast. Just when it was about to be blasted by Liao San's giant fan, its direction suddenly changed, from straight ahead to an upward arc. Taken aback, Liao San's fan, filled with fighting Qi, fanned into empty air, and hit the wall beside him. The impact created a large hole. This hit driven by Liao San's anger caused his fighting Qi to erupt out crazily, but at that moment, his fighting Qi defense had also weakened significantly.
The dark blue glow was so dazzling, but at this moment, it felt like a grim messenger from hell. The light was very delicate, looking like a blue glowing line in the dark night. Before Liao San could recover his fan, the blue light had gone straight through his forehead and disappeared. Liao San's body was completely frozen, convulsing. The fireball that had previously ascended mercilessly hit Liao San's back. Liao San was set ablaze, but the blue light had already ended his life. Thus, he didn't even have the chance to scream. His body fell to the ground, illuminating the dark alley with fire. The man in the black robe with the skull mask spoke hoarsely, "Those helping me, I must repay tenfold; those harming me, I must destroy." He was Nian Bing. He vividly remembered the humiliation in the morning and had vowed never to bear such an insult if ever he became powerful. Today, he killed for the first time, yet he felt no fear. Liao San's death seemed as irrelevant to him as crushing an ant.
Years of pent-up anger released with Liao San's murder, leaving Nian Bing feeling particularly invigorating. The dark side of his heart was fully unleashed, even exuding a slightly wicked aura.
Suddenly, a sharp, cold aura swept from behind. Despite not touching him, it caused a grimacing pain in Nian Bing's back. Without any hesitation, he quickly drew the Morning Dew Knife from his chest, flickering with a turquoise glow, and faced the direction from where the aura was coming. At this moment, he was completely alert.
With a faint ring, Nian Bing grunted, spatting out a mouthful of fresh blood that flowed down the side of his mask. He staggered back several steps before managing to stop himself. The second shopkeeper of Dacheng Restaurant appeared where Nian Bing had stood, holding a broken longsword in his hand. He clearly felt an icy sensation flowing from the broken blade, making him shiver. He had basically arrived behind Nian Bing when the fireball was about to hit Liao San's head but was unable to save him. In order not to alert Nian Bing, he had kept quiet as he drew the soft sword from his waist and stabbed Nian Bing from behind. However, he was utterly surprised that Nian Bing, who was clearly a mage, was able to turn around in time and break his blade. Even though the turquoise light only flashed, he clearly felt that it must be a Unique Treasure Blade.
Slowly lowering his raised hand, the Second Shopkeeper was emanating the same yellow glow as Liao San, step by step, he approached Nian Bing. The same Fighting Qi, emitted from his body, seemed much denser than Liao San's. Taking one step at a time, his eyes were fixed on the skull mask on Nian Bing's face and he said coldly, "Who are you? Why did you sneak attack my third brother? Speak, was it Qingfeng Vegetarian Restaurant that sent you?"
"Qingfeng Vegetarian Restaurant? Do you think they can command me?" Although he was in a passive situation, Nian Bing remained calm. He stood his ground, staring at the Second Shopkeeper through the holes in his mask.
"Not from Qingfeng Vegetarian Restaurant? Then who are you? Why did you kill my third brother? You do not have to speak, but, I will make you wish for life, yet be unable to attain it, and beg for death, yet not find it." The voice of the Second Shopkeeper grew even colder.
Nian Bing calmly said, "I am an assassin. You can call me Demon Killer. I have killed today, and I don't want to act anymore. Until next time." A red flame rose spontaneously into the air without any warning, bombing towards the Second Shopkeeper like a giant plane. The Second Shopkeeper was very familiar with Liao San's abilities. Although they were not as strong as his, his Fighting Qi was not much worse. He had just been killed in front of this mysterious person claiming to be the Demon Killer. When he suddenly saw the Firewall approaching, he dared not be careless. He quickly dropped his broken sword, gathered all his Fighting Qi, and fiercely bombed the Firewall.
Without any sound, the sparks scattered, and the Second Shopkeeper's Fighting Qi kept reverberating in the narrow alley. He was surprised to find that the Firewall had no power. However, after the sparks disappeared, the Demon Killer, who had been close to him just a moment ago, had disappeared. The fire on Liao San's body was still burning, and a sense of fear arose in the Second Shopkeeper's heart. The mysterious and unpredictable Demon Killer put tremendous psychological pressure on him. He was somewhat scared, fearing that the Demon Killer was hiding in the dark, ready to unleash his peculiar magic attack.
Nian Bing stumbled to a corner of the street and stopped, panting for a few breaths in succession. He applied a common Healing Art to himself, which made him feel a bit better. The Second Shopkeeper's sword was condensed with Fighting Qi. If it weren't for the Morning Dew Knife that had timely severed his sword, Nian Bing would have been pierced through the heart early on. Even so, the Fighting Qi that entered his body at the moment he broke the sword had already shaken his internal organs. After all, he was not a martial artist. As a mage, his body was the weakest. Firewall technique was a fifth Rank magic, Nian Bing could use it, but it certainly required some time to chant the spell. What he used to escape just now was not a real Firewall. Since he could condense a Blizzard, likewise, relying on his strong spiritual power, he could also diffuse an ordinary first Rank Fireball to the size of a Firewall. Unbeknownst to him, due to the continuous training from the magic power of Fire and Ice of the same origin in his body, his meridians had become much sturdier than those of ordinary people. This enabled him to withstand the Fighting Qi from that sword. If it had been an ordinary mage, even if they didn't die, they would have certainly lost all power to escape.
After panting for a while, the pain in his organs lessened a bit, and the Healing Art gradually began to work. Demon Killer, this name he'd thought of on the spot, was deeply imprinted in his mind. He silently swore that one day, the Demon Killer would descend on the exalted Ice God Tower, bringing death to those who had once harmed his parents. As he thought, he quickly took off his clothes, wrapped the mask in them, and walked slowly towards the back door of Qingfeng Vegetarian Restaurant.
When Nian Bing returned to Qingfeng Vegetarian Restaurant, it was already late at night. He carefully opened the back door and quietly headed towards the firewood room. To get from the back door to the firewood room, he had to go through the back garden. Uncle Li had once told him that the back garden was a private place for the owner of Qingfeng Vegetarian Restaurant and that the servants were not allowed to enter without permission. The walls of the back garden were about two meters high, with plum-shaped hollows on the top. The green wall blended in with the surrounding environment. With Nian Bing's height, he could see the inside through those hollows. As he walked along the path, he unintentionally noticed through the corner of his eye, a red shadow flashing past one of the hollows. His curiosity prompted him to peer through the hollow into the back garden.
