บท 4: Chapter Four: Intelligent and Beautiful! Kokomi Teruhashi

AKARI HUFFED AS SHE WAS PULLED BY her arm down the busy street packed with plenty of annoying shoppers, loud businessmen, and troublesome teens. Sadly, unlike any of her other weekends enjoying her solitude and maybe going over to Kusuo's house, she had been dragged out by her little brother. Why he couldn't just come into town by himself was annoying her to no end at the moment. She used to do her errands by herself when she was his age, so why couldn't he? Though her parents most likely just want her to make sure that he doesn't spend every yen that he has on his person for some ridiculous stuff. Honestly, this boy could spend his lifesaving on mangas and such at any given moment.

Of course, she couldn't argue with her parents about it because she couldn't say that she was busy. They all knew that she had nothing better to do than sit in her room enjoying her solitude in the dark. Akari could say that she was going to spend time with Kusuo today, but even then they still would have made her go and maybe even force her friend to go with them. So to save Kusuo the pain of having to tag along on her errand with Rikuto, she decided just to do as her parents say and head out with her younger brother. So here she was, being dragged down the sidewalk towards one of Rikuto's favorite shops in town.

"You're so slow!" The black-haired boy exclaimed as he pulled against his sister, dragging her out of her thoughts. "Hurry up! Hurry up! Hurry up!"

Akari rolled her eyes but allowed herself to be roughly guided by the overexcited and annoying young boy. It was times like these that made her question whether or not she loved her family or not. I'm sure you've had those moments, especially if you have (a) sibling(s). God, the number of times I've questioned why my parents decided to have another kid is baffling. Though let's forget that I said anything, I have nothing to do with the story and my opinion doesn't matter at the moment. Especially when they involve my family. Let's focus on the fanfiction and not real life!

Her annoying brother brought her to his favorite store that was lined with bookshelves of different kinds of mangas. His eyes were wide and bright as he ran towards a shelf with his favorite manga on it. He was more than ready to spend his allowance on the newest copy that he found. Akari stared at him, "you have an obsession."

Rikuto paused his enthusiastic shopping and turned to stick his tongue out at his older sister. "It's not an obsession."

"An addiction then," Akari lazily commented while idly gazing around the shop. There were a few other nerds and geeks around the shop, none of them noticing her. So for a moment, they most likely thought that this middle school kid was talking to himself. Though Rikuto was used to being seen as the weirdo, even if he tries to act cool and all. We've all been there. Middle school days were the cringiest, don't even try to deny it!

"Wah!" The young boy whined at her declaration, "Akari, stop!"

Akari sighed and glared lightly at her brother. Her annoyance was quite evident from how her yellow eyes glowed slightly down at the shorter boy. As much as she enjoyed teasing her brother some times, she currently would like to either be by herself or with Kusuo. "Just get your stuff, I want to go home."

Rikuto grabbed one more book off of the shelves and added it to his never-ending stack of mangas. He smirked from over his new stash, "You just wanna hang out with your boyfriend!"

"I don't have a boyfriend," Akari said emotionlessly. She already knew that he was referring to Kusuo. Her brother always seemed to try and tease her that she and her friend were actually dating. Though that was a complete lie. Like she would ever consider Kusuo as more than a friend, or he would consider her more than a friend. They tolerated each other to a point where it could be considered friendship, though it would never go beyond that. (Hehe. I think we all know that's a lie). What was with her family and assuming that she and Kusuo would start dating? "Just like how you don't have a girlfriend."

Rikuto turned red at the statement, "Hey!"

"At least I can talk to boys," Akari jabbed him with her words which caused him to deflate at the truth she was saying. "You freak out when a girl even looks at you."

"AKARI!" Rikuto shouted in embarrassment as he hid behind the stack of books that he had. She didn't have to point out how socially awkward he is! It was true though, Rikuto is never able to even get a sentence out to anyone of the opposite sex besides family members. Talking to his friends, who are male, is one thing. However, put him in front of a girl and he becomes a bumbling mess. It's a bit pathetic. He reminded Akari of Kaido in some way. She has a feeling that if the two ever met they'd be pretty good friends.

"Just get your mangas already," Akari blandly said before pushing him off to the counter to buy his stuff. Rikuto huffed but did as she said, more than ready to spend his earnings on the stack of books he picked out.

Akari waited for a little while longer in the shadows while Rikuto bought his mangas. She looked out the store's windows and noticed a head of pink hair passing by. The teen tilted her head as she watched Kusuo pass by with someone else trailing after him. Had she known that he was going out today as well, she would have seen if he wanted to come into town together. Then again, he most likely wanted to be alone if he didn't mention it. Either way, she wouldn't bother him if he didn't want to.

Rikuto then came bouncing over to his sister with a big bag of his new books and pulled her arm once again. "Come on! We can go home now!"

This time, Akari allowed herself to be pulled out of the shop seeing as they were leaving this time. The one time she would allow Rukuto to pull her arm out of its socket is when they are headed home. The faster they get back, the quicker she can sleep or just sit around in the dark.

The boy then pointed, "Hey, look! It's your boyfriend!"

Akari cringed seeing that he was pointing at Kusuo who was seemingly trying to avoid the navy blue-haired girl who was following him. She recognized the girl, how could she not? It was the perfect pretty girl; Teruhashi Kokomi!

The shadow-manipulator knew all about Teruhashi, considering nearly everyone talked about her. Every boy was in love with her and her beauty, while every girl admired her and her perfect personality. Akari was indifferent to the girl. Though she did avoid her considering the angel-like girl drew attention to her like moths to a flame. So both Kusuo and Akari avoided her as much as they could. This time though, it looked like Kusuo was unable to get away from her. She wasn't exactly sure what was happening, but Akari could tell that he was doing his best to ignore her.

"Leave him be," Akari told Rikuto, "he's trying to avoid Teruhashi, I think."

Her brother suddenly turned as red as a tomato, "T-T-Teruhashi!? As in the G-Goddess who's in your class!!"

Akari raised her delicate eyebrow down at her brother as he drooled over the older teen. It shouldn't surprise her that he was also affected by her godly glow, just about everyone was. She was ashamed to say that the first time that Akari had ever seen Teruhashi, she had also been affected by her god-like power during the first day of school. Looking back on it, it wasn't surprising that a shy, unsociable Akari had fallen victim to Teruhashi's charm on that day. Of course, it didn't last too long. For one thing, Teruhashi was unable to see Akari just like everyone else, and second, Akari soon became aware of her true nature when Kusuo told her what her inner monologues were about. Soon enough, Akari became immune to the power that Teruhashi possessed.

She then noticed that Kusuo suddenly disappeared in the crowd of people. "Oh, he's gone." Akari could only assume that he had teleported to get away from the beautiful annoyance who had been following him around. Honestly, she would have done the same if she could.

"Ah!" Rikuto then let out a girlish scream, dropping his bag in shock.

"Oops."

Akari turned to find her pink-haired friend now standing next to her little brother who was completely freaked out by his appearance. Well, he wasn't as freaked out about it as a normal person would be. He was more startled at Kusuo's sudden appearance than freaked out that he had teleported. Kusuo's powers were well known to the Watanabe family, much like how Akari's powers are known to the Saiki family. So Rikuto at least knew about what Kusuo could do and not be surprised by it.

Thankfully, where Akari, Rikuto, and Kusuo were hidden from Teruhashi and Nendo. So Kusuo didn't have to worry about having Teruhashi see him and try to come after him again. Add in the fact that Akari was there, and the three of them were able to relatively hide in the shadows together.

She giggled lightly at her friend, "Did you not mean to teleport?"

The bland look on Kusuo's face was enough of an answer for her, "No. Though it's fine since Teruhashi thinks I was just an illusion."

"Oh, is that a good idea?" Akari asked with a hand on her chin in thought, "if she thinks that you were an illusion, wouldn't that cause her to believe that she was thinking about you and perhaps in love with you?"

Kusuo sighed at Akari's absurd reasoning. He knew that people could be stupid, but there was no way that Teruhashi would be that idiotic, right? He stood corrected though when he heard the perfect pretty girl's thoughts.

'No way... Am I... No, that can't be true! Oh, no! What's this feeling inside of me? Am I actually in love with Saiki?'

Kusuo froze in his spot after having heard that. Akari was right... Kusuo has lost even more faith in humanity.

Rikuto eyed the frozen boy and poked him in his side, "You okay there, Kusuo-nii?"

Akari pulled her brother away from Kusuo and sighed through her nose. Though she couldn't help the small amused smile that grew on her lips. "I guess I was right."

The teen boy turned to her with an annoyed expression, "Sometimes I wonder if you're a mind reader too."

"No, I'll leave that to you, Ku-kun." Her soft, breathy laugh once again drifting off into the wind. Kusuo continued to scowl at her in annoyance before turning to walk off. The Watanabe siblings then hurried to follow after them. Now, Kusuo wanted nothing more than to head back to his house and just be alone. Though he glanced at Akari from the corner of his eye as she laughed at something her brother said, he wouldn't mind if Akari decided to come over and hang out with him as well.
