บท 96: Chapter 96: The Phone Call

As York handled his attribute points, the journey from his house, covering a total distance of 20 kilometers, took about half an hour.

As usual, with the sensible help of Ed and Drew, York didn't need to do much besides picking up the backpack filled with holy C4 explosives. He just silently watched as the two delivered everything to his doorstep.

"Father, everything is here," Ed said, breathing a sigh of relief and clapping his hands.

"Thank you for your help, Ed," York smiled.

"You're welcome, Father York," Ed shook his head, "You've helped us more."

With that, Ed looked back at the eight-seater SUV waiting for him, unable to resist asking again, though he had already asked once.

"Father York, the issue with Rowan has been resolved, hasn't it?"

"Of course," York replied patiently to the Warrens, who brought him attribute points.

"The ominous presence on Rowan has faded a lot. As long as she keeps my cross, it will naturally disappear in a few days."

From the information known so far, York believed that the misfortune on Janet and Rowan was due to a tracker set by a demon disguised as a nun.

Hearing this, Ed was greatly relieved and thanked sincerely.

"Thank you, Father York. It's good that you're here, or we wouldn't have known what to do before things got worse."

"We're friends, Ed. There's no need for formality," York said lightly, "As long as you continue to hold onto that pure heart resisting the paranormal, not only will the Lord protect you, but I will also stand with you."

"I will, Father York. I certainly will," Ed said earnestly with a smile.

In York's eyes, Ed's face shone with a devout light, reminiscent of the devoutness he saw in his old believers. If heaven exists, this guy would surely qualify to enter, York thought to himself.

"We're leaving now, Father York."

"Goodbye, Ed," York replied lightly.

"Goodbye, Father York."

After watching the eight-seater SUV leave, York entered his house, finally having the chance to make a phone call.

After placing items like holy grenades, holy enchanted ammunition, and the SHAK-12, letting the backpack with the holy C4 explosives rest at his feet, York comfortably lay on the sofa, took out his phone, and dialed Old Mike's number.

Although the issue with Rowan was resolved, York didn't want to miss out on the 40-point mission reward if possible. His current strength wasn't as cautious as before; now he had means to attack both near and far, and his extensive arsenal wasn't for show.

If all the munitions were used up without killing the demon, he still had magic and mental power to fall back on. If those were depleted too, his physical fitness would allow him to engage in close combat with the demon.

At worst, with the ever-present power of faith, he could become like the ancient priests, with a cross in one hand, a bible in the other, proclaiming God, and directly confronting the demon, to see who's louder.

And if all else fails, he could always run away. Thinking this, York couldn't help but laugh at himself for being somewhat ridiculous.

"York?"

At that moment, the call connected, and Old Mike's voice came through, seeking confirmation.

York instantly gathered his wandering thoughts and replied, "Yes, it's me."

Meanwhile, in a room filled with various research equipment, Old Mike sat in an executive chair, looking up at the ceiling and said, "I knew you would make this call."

Lying on the sofa and also looking at the ceiling, York smiled, "Father Mike, you know, I can't stand these evils. Since I've encountered this, I naturally can't let it go."

"Talking nonsense, do you think I don't know you? You can fool others, but not me," Old Mike's face twitched, not believing York's words. Hearing York about to speak again, he quickly interrupted.

"Alright, alright, I'll tell you."

With that, Old Mike looked at the documents scattered on the table, his tone turning serious.

"York, you know about the situation with the St. Cata Monastery in Romania, right?"

Remembering the information about this monastery, unlike others located in cities or populated areas, this one was special. It was a nunnery built during the dark ages from the fifth to the fifteenth century, secluded in the mountains, accepting only nuns and no other clergy, and not open to the public.

Hence, there were people like the Frenchman who periodically delivered supplies.

With a flash of thought, York responded, "Yes."

"So do you know why this Frenchman came to America?" Old Mike asked, holding the phone in one hand and picking up a document from the table with the other, his tone serious.

"Because he found a nun who had committed suicide and discovered that all the nuns in the St. Cata Monastery had died under mysterious circumstances."

"Suicide? All died under mysterious circumstances?"

York's brows furrowed slightly, his first concern being the word "suicide." Suicide itself contradicts the beliefs of the clergy in the church and the Bible, being considered a grave sin and against their faith, essentially cutting off the path to heaven.

"Suspicious, isn't it?"

Old Mike's brows were also furrowed, gazing at the document and speaking solemnly, "This Frenchman must have encountered something in the monastery that made him run off to America silently. Although it's unclear why, it's evident that there was a problem from the start."

York remained silent for a while, looking at the ceiling and murmuring about the demon nun, "It's looking for someone with psychic abilities."

"Huh?" Old Mike was puzzled, not quite catching York's words, but sensing they might be related to another incident.

"What have you encountered now?"

"Nothing," York diverted the topic, asking, "Father Mike, since the Frenchman, Franck Lynch, kept silent, how did you learn about the monastery's ordeal?"

Understanding the silent agreement not to pursue further, Old Mike explained, "When the local supplier realized the Frenchman had run off, and it was time for the delivery, he had no choice but to take the supplies and head to St. Cata Monastery himself, and then..."

Revealing another critical piece of information, Old Mike advised, "York, this is suspicious. The local church has reported this to the headquarters for registration. The headquarters might send someone to investigate. If you want to take over this case, it's best to secure it before they do."

York looked at the task window that had always been there, calmly replying, "I will, Father Mike."

Sensing York's intention to end the call, Old Mike hurriedly added, "York, my daughter Hilary is also in Romania..."

End of the month, brothers, I need your votes!
