บท 2727: Chapter 1926 U: Beyond Major Events (15)_1

The two Batmen and Natasha directly walked into the woods, putting at least a few meters between them and the campgrounds, ensuring they were completely out of sight. Only then did Batman and Natasha simultaneously turn around, making a detour towards another side of the campsite.

"Hold up, where are you going?"

"We plan to have some fun, are you coming?" Natasha turned back to them, high arched brows meticulously drawn on and her eyes brimming with suggestion. Twirling around and gesturing towards Beihan, she added, "Normally, I wouldn't do this, but both of you are so hot, I can let you go first. How about that?"

Speechless at the sight of the couple before him, Beihan sensed something was off. Regardless, he clearly didn't want to partake in any menage-a-trois, so he shrugged and walked away.

Natasha and Batman sneaked around to the southeastern side of the campsite, where there were clusters of tall shrubs. With a slight bend, they could clearly see the state of the campsite through the gaps of the shrubs. As the sun was in the east, facing their direction would be blinding, an advantage they used to remain hidden.

Beihan, who had left earlier, surveyed the surroundings and found substantial evidence of human activity upstream of a stream located 300 meters north of the campsite.

If still possessed their original physical abilities and powers, each Batman would have chosen to investigate. In their solo days, they were at their peak.

It wasn't that Beihan lacked courage now. But having been away for a considerable amount of time, the team was effectively short one primary fighter. If something unexpected happened, the situation could be dangerous. He couldn't rely solely on those two secretive couples, so he had to hurry back.

After briefly looking at the traces beside the creek, Beihan noted the useful information and began to retreat.

On his way back, he mulled over the traces he had observed. They appeared to be left by someone fetching water beside the creek. A half footprint seemed to have been pressed into the mud when the person squatted, just right-sized to have been covered with a large pebble and avoided being washed away by the river.

Based on the footprint alone, Beihan almost thought they were dealing with Bigfoot as their adversary this time. The shoe size was alarmingly large, both in length and width, and the footprint was pressed quite firm, suggesting it wasn't a case of a small foot in big shoes.

The tread pattern indicated the person wore cheap rain boots, the kind that can be bought at a discount store and reek of rubber.

The force hinted at a very tall figure who had to angle the body significantly forward to be able to fill a bucket with water. The person must also be quite strong, considering the intense core strength needed to correct the position from such an angle.

It seemed they were up against a formidable opponent this time.

As Beihan thought and walked towards the campsite, he unexpectedly ran into Natasha, who was wearing only her underwear.

Beihan instantly turned his head away, not looking at Natasha's voluptuous figure. Natasha, however, tossed her wet hair back, wringing out her shirt that she seemed to have just washed in the stream, threw it over her back and walked towards Beihan, smiling.

"Why the shyness? I thought you'd changed your mind. But you're late; we're done already. Next time, we'll definitely include you."

Natasha draped an arm over Beihan's shoulder, her last words whispered directly into his ear. Beihan's gaze shifted, catching a glimpse of her pale skin underneath her damp hair.

He placed a hand on Natasha's waist. Just as she attempted to put her other arm over him, he used his arm strength, pulling Natasha to one side, clearing a path for himself.

The female agent cursed in Russian, spat on the ground, then stopped Beihan again, saying "Let me have your cape, I'm a bit cold."

Beihan turned to look at Natasha, his eyes initially landing on her crumpled clothes, then on her cold-reddened shoulders. After a moment's hesitation, he unfastened his cape and tossed it over to her.

"Thank you, darling, I'll come find you at night," With a flying kiss thrown at Beihan, Natasha hastily wrapped the cape around herself.

By the time Beihan returned to the camp, Batman was already starting a fire. Seeing his other self return, he looked up and said, "There are fire stones in the tent's package, but no ready-made firewood. Shiller and Dick went into the woods to look for dry branches."

Beihan nodded; as long as they could get through the night, there was no need for excessive firewood. They just needed to burn enough to keep warm. There was no need to cut and split any trees. He suggested, "We can find some sturdy sticks to make torches. Aside from lighting, long enough torches could also scare away invaders."

Batman looked up at him and then said with certainty, posing it as a question, "You haven't been Batman for long, have you?"

Beihan did not deny it. He walked over and while watching Batman make the fire, he replied, "Indeed not long, certainly not as long as you. But what does this have to do with torches?"

"Do you know the greatest advantage of a flashlight?"

"It's bright enough."

"That's just one of them. The most important thing is that the light source is stable, steadily pointing ahead, lighting up the path you want, unlike a fire's erratic flicker that only illuminates a certain range around the flames."

"A flashlight can be shined in an enemy's face, causing temporary blindness. At the very least, it can illuminate their position while keeping you concealed in the dark. Few people can discern the direction of the light source."

"However, if you hold a torch, you're practically telling the enemy where you are. This will turn you into a live target at night. As for using fire to frighten away enemies, that is only effective against ordinary people."

Beihan recalled the footprints he had seen by the stream, and said: "I'm afraid our opponent is no ordinary man. I guess he could weigh 300 pounds, or even more."

"The hint from the organizer said that the killer devil has all kinds of special abilities, and the first encounter with them might be the most dangerous. If it happens at night, the danger doubles. It's best to strike first."

After Beihan finished speaking, he looked at the other self, but he could never see any emotion on the other's face. That indifference and seriousness had become another kind of mask, and it even frightened him.

He heard the other Batman sigh softly.

At this point, Natasha came back. She looked around as if looking for someone. Then she walked towards them and casually threw her top to dry on the top of the tent they had set up.

Wrapped in Beihan's cloak, Natasha sat down and finally began to get down to business.

"When I came over just now, I found a rabbit hole and deer tracks, which means there are animals active around us. Since we're only staying here for one day, we don't need to hunt. However, if this is a setup from a horror movie, the opponent will definitely be hunting."

"I suspect that the killer devil might be a hunter living in the woods. It's a pretty typical setup, isn't it? Arrows for shooting prey, giant animal traps that can snap bones, spike traps hidden under fallen leaves, axes for chopping wood, these are all common execution tools in bloody movies."

"You study movies too?" Batman looked at Natasha and asked.

"Actually, I quite like bloody movies." Natasha shrugged and said, "Some plots remind me of things that happen in real life, which excites me, you know."

Beihan deeply frowned, always feeling that this woman was not as confused by desire as she appeared, only seeking sensuous pleasure. But her display of thirst didn't seem fake. Where was the flaw?

Natasha pulled a corner of the cape downwards, saying, "After it gets completely dark, waging a battle would be suicidal. We at least have to find the opponent's hideout and, without him noticing, determine which path he will take here."

Just then, Shiller came back from the woods. He carried a stack of wood in his lab coat and put them aside.

"Have you worked out any feasible plans?" Shiller picked a few pieces of wood and offered them to Batman to start a fire.

"We plan to scout first." Beihan pointed in a direction, "There is a creek that way and the opponent is definitely upstream from us. We can start there and keep heading upstream, following the increasing signs."

"After finding the opponent's camp, we can figure out the shortest path for the opponent to get to us, which is likely the route of the attack. We just need to be ready before night falls."

It was quite a conservative strategy, Beihan thought to himself after speaking. He also thought of charging directly into the opponent's camp for investigation. If it had been previously, he would have done it.

But now, the biggest problem was sneaking around. If they couldn't control their foot or landing noises, there was a high chance they would be discovered. This was exactly what they lacked at the moment. Thus, a counterattack in defense would be relatively a better strategy. After all, once the opponent found them, they wouldn't need to hide their whereabouts anymore.

Batman used the wood Shiller had selected to quickly ignite a fire, then he picked some more flammable firewood from the pile he had collected.

Using stones, he piled up a fire pit, put the firewood inside, and soon a blazing campfire was burning. He scattered some slightly damp fallen leaves on the flames to reduce their intensity and prolong the burning time, and soon the preparation of the campfire was completed.

Natasha used a flat piece of stone she found nearby as a griddle placed over the fire, and slightly heated up the bread and hot dogs from their food supplies. After a brief heat, they began to eat.

However, Batman didn't eat anything. He frowned and gazed into the woods, looking somewhat worried.

"What's up?" Beihan, who was biting into a piece of bread, asked.

"Nothing, I was just thinking why Dick hasn't come back yet."

"Dick? The one with the mask? What is your relation to him?"

"In my universe, he's my adopted son. But this one isn't. He's from another universe. However, for just fetching firewood, he shouldn't have been gone for so long."

Batman was already standing. The other few people also felt the serious atmosphere enveloping the camp. Natasha, seemingly deep in thought, said, "It is indeed more advantageous for the killer devil who is familiar with the terrain to make a move at night. But what if he doesn't need to rely on the terrain and is still one hundred percent sure of killing us?"

Batman hurried into the woods. Shiller pointed in a direction, "Over there, Dick went that way."

The group quickly rushed into the forest and walked a few hundred meters. A strong smell of blood came with the wind.

A few steps later, through the dense bushes, there was blood, viscera, pieces of limbs, scattered remnants of a uniform.

Dick was torn to shreds, literally.
