บท 1742: Chapter 1179 Professor (Finished) (Birthday Extra Update)_2

"Shiller tilted his head, looking directly into Lucifer's eyes, saying, "You feel profound fear for this, but now, you have a chance, to prove your arrogance…"

Shiller moved the goblet a little farther, until it touched Lucifer's lips, but Lucifer kept leaning back, evading the approaching goblet, until he leaned his head back against the chair.

Lucifer tilted his head, looking up at Shiller and said, "You really remind me of someone I know...a snake."

Shiller slowly stood up, lowered his eyes, glanced at Lucifer, then picked up the wine glass and returned to his seat. He placed the wine glass down and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, rest assured, this is not an exclusive privilege of my friend, Lucifer Morningstar. Each of you will have your share of wine —"

"... 1000 milliliters should be enough."

In the dimly lit room filled with all kinds of furniture, chairs were overturned on the tables, their legs casting long shadow in the moonlight, like talons. When they cast shadows onto a person, it was as if he were about to be dragged into hell.

Near the door, a single-seat sofa was placed, and the person sitting on it hung his head down. Tufts of hair on his forehead covered his pale face. Nothing was restraining him, but his hands were like they were bound, resting flat on the armrests of the sofa.

On one of his arms, a coarse and scary syringe was connected, and fresh blood burst out, climbing up the curved pipe, penetrating the cement and steel bars of the wall, passing through a meticulous faucet, and flowing into an equally meticulous glass.

Lucifer withdrew his gaze, looking back at Shiller and said, "It's all part of your plan...you want to take revenge on us."

"Regardless of how much pressure you put on Batman to harm himself, this debt will fall on your shoulders...Shiller, stop it. Do you really want your student to tear open his own chest and bleed to death?"

Gordon abruptly stood up. He looked at the lounge door in astonishment. Although he didn't have X-ray vision, he already saw the bundles of tubes that slithered like snakes, a pair of leather shoes, pale arm, and equally pale lips.

Shiller tapped the table with the base of the goblet, making a clinking sound. Everybody heard the warning in it.

"This is just the beginning, friends, the lamb hasn't started his performance yet."

Lucifer, with his eyes closed, opened them when Shiller turned to walk towards the door. He suddenly spoke: "Let's make a bet. If I win, you let him go and you let yourself go."

Shiller, now holding the goblet, turned around and looked at Lucifer. A tense atmosphere spread across the room. Everyone listened as if awaiting a judgement of guilt, and after a silence that lasted about 10 seconds, Shiller finally spoke: "...what do you want to bet?"

With a creaking sound, the door was pushed open. In the dark room, this sound became particularly clear, as if it was the prelude to an execution.

The person who walked in did not turn on the light, but to Bruce, the footsteps were loud like thunder. Bruce, pale-faced, looked up and saw Shiller's face in the dark.

"How does it taste?" Bruce's hoarse voice sounded.

Shiller stood in the dark, quietly watching him. After a moment of silence, he replied, "... Quite good, thanks for your hospitality."

"...My pleasure."

When Shiller stood still in the darkness, it was as if his body was entirely sunk in the endless dark, with only his calm face visible. No one would have expected that godliness and evilness would appear so harmoniously on the same face.

"You've done quite well, so I will honor our agreement and not hurt others." Shiller began, but Bruce didn't react. Shiller continued, "But I need a little more. Otherwise, I'll still bring them to the table, ... would you be willing?"

"How much do you want?" Bruce asked, his head still drooped.

"Another 1000 milliliters." Shiller answered.

Bruce's breathing rate remained very slow, a typical sign of lowered heart rate. Upon hearing this number, he didn't react.

When Shiller turned his gaze towards him, he couldn't see any expression on Bruce's face, until his hoarse voice sounded again:

"Go ahead."

Shiller's lips twitched, he moved closer to Bruce, putting his hands on the armrests of the chair where Bruce was seated. He looked down on Bruce and said,

"If I heard correctly, you are letting me drain your blood so that I wouldn't harm the serial killers?"

Shiller slightly straightened up, then extended his hand to grip Bruce's throat, forcing him to raise his head. He looked into his eyes and said, "… You would die for these criminals?"

The blood-drawing machine didn't stop, and the amount of blood loss for Bruce had already exceeded 1000 milliliters, so his pupils began to dilate. But he still managed to speak with some difficulty:

"I don't want you to kill."

Bruce's somewhat dilated pupils stared into Shiller's eyes. He found that Shiller's eyes were getting brighter, the terrifying desire there not only didn't weaken, but became stronger and stronger, like a starving person suddenly seeing a well-roasted, juicy piece of meat.

The next second, the lights inside the room turned on. Shiller, still maintaining his original posture, released his hand, swung Bruce's face to one side, and then stood up.

Lucifer, with his wings spread, appeared in the doorway. Like he had grown weary, Shiller turned around and waved his hand.

Lucifer snapped his fingers, and the blood returned to Bruce's body. Gordon quickly moved to Batman's side, pulled the syringe from his arm, and then said, "I suggest you take up a religion. If it wasn't for Lucifer today, you'd have been in deep trouble."

Bruce's head still felt a bit dizzy, so he couldn't clearly see Shiller and Lucifer now standing by the window. He focused his gaze on Gordon's face and asked, "What's going on?"

Gordon glanced back at Shiller, but seemed wary of keeping his gaze on him for too long. He quickly looked back at Bruce and said, "The good news is, he isn't as cruel as you imagined, but the bad news is, he's a hundred times more difficult to deal with than you thought..."

"Shiller and Lucifer made a bet." Gordon continued to explain. Bruce looked up at him. Gordon gently sighed and said,

"The bet was who you would ultimately sacrifice yourself for."

Bruce, holding onto the chair's armrest, could still vividly recall the feeling of weakness. His one hand was on the seat of the chair, head hanging down, he began to speak slowly,

"I'm a human, not a senseless, emotionless monster. I know who's sacrificing for me and how it's changed me."

"In my life, I've faced too many dilemmas. No matter what was chosen, someone always had to be sacrificed."

"And the scenario that I hankered for but could never obtain, was like today. On one side of the scale was me. The only thing I had, was the right to choose to sacrifice myself without carrying any guilt."

"But if he asked me to choose..."

Bruce dragged out his words, making the end of his sentence sound like a sigh.

He looked at Shiller standing by the window, still peaceful and serene, as if incompatible with everything else in this world. Bruce continued:

"Of course, it would be this person, who has never given up saving me, who has always provided me with support...the Professor."
