The air of surprise still clung to me like damp wool. Leaving the cave was easier than I'd dared hope, though a disquieting calm filled the air. The trickster had done her work, sowing doubts in my mind like seeds in fertile soil, their weight already settling heavily on my heart.
Stepping out, I scanned for the vibrant line of flowers that had lined my path before. Gone, vanished as if swallowed by the shadows. Even the single, proud bloom at the entrance had dissolved into the night.
Not sure if it was from the decreased weather or the chilling words of the Trickster, but cold suddenly crept down my spine- almost sending a blast of shivers through me.
Retracing my way back, I walked on the stony ground which suddenly felt cold beneath my shoes.
