บท 21: A Real Man Knows When To Advance And When To Retreat
When Ayame and Kayden heard Winston's command, the two of them looked at each other and Kayden pointed towards Ayame's hair.
Realizing that Winston referred to her as "Whitey" due to her white hair color as well as also being unaware of her name, Ayame retorted, "I'm not Whitey, I'm Shiro Ayame!"
Shooting the zombies in front of him, Winston nonchalantly replied, "Yeah, yeah, Whitey. Get on with it if you want to form an alliance with me. I don't have all day arguing with you on why you were born with white hair at such a young age."
"Pfft! Hahaha! How old are you, Ayame? Why do you have white hair? Inherited it from your grandma?"
To lighten up the mood, Kayden joked but he was met with Ayame's gaze as well as a gesture of swiping her neck.
Kayden wanted to defend his dignity as a man and he wanted to show off that he wasn't afraid of Ayame's threat. However, when he saw the zombie blood on Ayame's metal bat that was already drenched with it as well as the zombie corpses near Ayame, Kayden decided to remain silent.
'Ah, forget my dignity as a man. I can't beat her. A real man knows when to advance and when to retreat.'
'Also, if not for that kid having two pistols, I wouldn't have suffered alone.'
Averting Ayame's gaze, Kayden shifted his attention to fighting zombies, showing that he didn't see Ayame's gaze and he was busy with what he was doing.
Of course, Kayden could barely fight zombies. Winston and Ayame who saw Kayden's pathetic attempt of killing zombies just shook their heads.
It wasn't that Kayden was truly pathetic. But he was compared to two monsters whose zombie kill count was already six times than his. Nevertheless, for an average human, Kayden was doing quite well and didn't pathetically die.
After getting over and tolerating Winston and Kayden's jokes, Ayame just sighed and went out of their formation, heading towards those students who were fishing in troubled waters.
Noticing that Ayame was heading towards them instead of attacking and holding off those zombies from invading the school, those students who wanted to take advantage of Ayame, Winston, and Kayden's exhaustion after fighting all those zombies had run away like a bunch of cowards.
Even if those students had split up and retreated in different directions, Ayame didn't give up her pursuit and continued catching up to them until she eventually caught one of them.
Striking her metal bat towards that student's leg, the student screamed in pain but Ayame turned a deaf ear to it. She slammed her metal bat towards his four limbs until it broke his bones and crippled him.
Ayame didn't go any further than that and spared his life but Winston and Kayden who saw that knew that Ayame was even making their lives more miserable.
After all, not only that crippled student had to experience the excruciating pain of having his four limbs fractured, but he eventually would meet the demise of getting bitten by zombies yet having no means of resistance to it.
From another perspective, killing those students would be far more merciful than crippling them and letting them get bitten by zombies.
However, Winston and Kayden didn't have any comments regarding Ayame's actions since the two of them weren't the holy mother.
But after witnessing Ayame's decisiveness even after fighting a fellow human, Kayden gulped and watched Ayame's action in bewilderment.
'Damn! This girl is fierce! If I had offended her any further, I might be the one laying flat on the ground with my limbs crippled!'
'Fortunately, I, a real man, knows when to advance and when to retreat!'
While Kayden was praising himself for being a real man, Kayden immediately remembered something.
"Ayame, isn't your metal bat coated with zombie blood? You broke that guy's limbs and the zombie blood on the metal bat had already entered his wounds. It won't be long before he becomes infected by the zombie virus and mutates into a zombie."
In response to Kayden's words, Ayame turned a deaf ear to it as she left the crippled student and headed to other students who had run away.
Knowing that he was ignored by Ayame due to that previous incident, Kayden sighed, 'Girls can be so petty for little things.'
"Wait, please kill me! I don't want to suffer from more pain and become a zombie!"
With snot and tears on his face, the crippled student started begging for either Winston or Kayden to kill him.
However, his begging had only attracted the attention of some zombies which caused them to head towards the crippled student, reducing the pressure on Winston and Kayden's side.
But when the zombies were about to bite the crippled student, they sensed the zombie virus within his body so they refrained from biting the crippled student and instead, they returned to attack Winston and Kayden who were sensed by them as humans.
A few zombies had also headed to where Ayame was. So when Ayame was pursuing those high school students who had run away, the zombies were also pursuing her.
Nonetheless, the several seconds worth of diverting the zombies' attention had relieved the pressure on Winston as he had already killed tons of zombies during that time frame.
In the end, Ayame eventually returned to Winston and Kayden only to find out that the zombies were already wiped out by Winston and Kayden.
Instead of fighting zombies, Winston and Kayden were busy lifting the zombie corpses that had piled up and blocked the school gate, setting them aside.
"Whitey, you are late."
"Since you are here, help us move these corpses so that we can drive the car out of here."
บท 22: Alliance Between Winston, Kayden, And Ayame
Hearing Winston's words, Ayame knew that her offer was accepted and she could tag along with Winston.
Seeing that Ayame didn't disagree, Winston made a hand gesture to Kayden which prompted Kayden to take out a pair of medical gloves from his space storage bracelet.
Kayden showed a smug smile on his face while handing the medical gloves to Ayame.
Ayame was annoyed by Kayden being a show-off but knowing that Kayden was already accepted by Winston to be part of their group, she didn't complain.
'No wonder a weakling like him was accepted by that kid. This guy is a walking warehouse. He might have obtained some special items
Receiving the medical gloves from Kayden, Ayame assisted Winston and Kayden in lifting the zombie corpses out of the school gate so that they wouldn't block their car's path.
With Ayame's assistance, the work was done a lot faster.
After all, Kayden's physical power was only better than Winston but Winston was a twelve-year-old so Kayden and Winston's working efficiency was less than Ayame's.
While lifting a zombie corpse with the assistance of Winston, Kayden introduced himself to Ayame, "Ayame, the three of us will work together from now on so I might as well introduce myself to you. I'm Kayden Flynn while this kid here is Winston."
"And as you have seen from before, I can take things out of thin air. I have obtained the C-grade special event item Space Storage Bracelet. On the other hand, Winston has an E-grade special event item which is his two pistols."
"My space storage bracelet has the storage volume of an average classroom. So I'm in charge of storing items. Don't worry as I won't run away with the items and if you don't want to let me keep the items in your backpack, that's fine with me as well."
"Furthermore, I also have a lot of non-perishable food as well as medicines stored in my bracelet. There are also rubbing alcohol, medical gloves, surgical face masks, sanitary napkins, wet tissues, and other hospital and sanitary-related items that came along with the medicines."
After introducing himself and explaining the use as well as contents of his space storage bracelet, he winked at Ayame and teased, "If you ever need sanitary napkins, just ask me since I have boxes of them."
In response to Kayden's teasing, Ayame flatly replied, "Okay, thanks."
Already used to her fans teasing her, Ayame wasn't affected by Kayden's teasing and instead, she just thanked him for the offer.
She could tell that Kayden didn't lie but that wasn't enough for her to trust him with her supplies.
Ayame also thought that it would be inconvenient for her to not have supplies in her backpack since going to Kayden every time she needed to retrieve an item would be too inconvenient.
After a few minutes passed, the three of them finally cleared the school gate and no zombie corpses blocked their path.
Of course, during the cleanup, some zombies would attack them but it was easily dealt with by Ayame.
After removing the medical gloves and sanitizing themselves with the supplies given by Kayden, they entered the car.
"As I have offered before, I'll both be the porter and the driver. You two will focus on combat and I'll do every other job and chores. I can also cook if you two want me to and if you are wary of being poisoned, you can watch me cook as well."
Kayden suggested the allocation of their jobs while entering the car and sitting in the driver's seat.
Kayden was well aware that in combat, he was worse than Winston and Ayame. So rather than doing something he wasn't good at, he offered to do the things he was confident he excelled in.
He didn't want to be useless and bring down the team so Kayden didn't hesitate to take on all of the chores.
Hearing Kayden's offer, Ayame sat in the backseat and commented, "I can drive as well but I'll let you drive."
On the other hand, Winston sat on the front passenger seat and spoke, "Okay, you can be the driver."
After all of them entered the car, Ayame was sitting alone in the back seat while the front row seat was occupied by Kayden and Winston.
Receiving the car key from Winston, Kayden inserted it into the lock cylinder and ignited the engine.
But when he was about to drive the car, Kayden asked in confusion, "Where are we going?"
Faced with that question, Ayame didn't know how to answer.
Kayden and Ayame realized that with their identity as high school students, they were only given memories of the school's layout but not the city's. They don't even know where their house is.
The two of them didn't know if this was a deliberate move by the game developer to increase the difficulty of survival or just the game developer being lazy.
Not knowing where to go, Kayden and Ayame shifted their attention to Winston and waited for his suggestion.
Faced with Kayden and Ayame's gaze, Winston sighed.
[Weiss, keep on carrying the team! You can do it!]
Hearing Alice's words in his mind, Winston, who was secretly Weiss in disguise, sighed yet again.
Weiss didn't add memories or information about the other parts of the city to those players since it would be less challenging that way.
So, a high school student would only know the layout of their school while a salary man would only know the layout of their company's building.
A player not only needed to survive but also explore this huge city-state.
After all, there were special event NPCs distributed in the city. There were even special event items that weren't distributed by special event NPCs such as the A-grade water bottle with infinite water stored in some convenience store.
Although Weiss could reveal them to Kayden and Ayame, he didn't want to ruin his fun in this game.
"Browney, five streets away, my house is located there. I have a stash of guns and ammo in my house due to my father serving in the military."
"We don't lack food and water. So secure the weapons first or else other survivors will ransack my house and steal them."
