When Kayden heard the old janitor's words as well as saw the coin taken out by the old janitor from the old janitor's pockets, he couldn't help but ask, "Does that mean my answers to your questions don't matter? Even if I answer them incorrectly, it will still result in this coin toss challenge?"
In response to Kayden's inquiry, Weiss replied, "Yes. Otherwise, why did you think I mentioned the requirements of answering my questions and you receiving the rewards by luck? I never mentioned that answering my questions correctly will allow you to receive the rewards."
"This special event in the game mainly focuses on two aspects. And that's temperance and luck. As long as you can restrain yourself and prevent greed from clouding your mind, you can answer my questions and won't die."
"After all, you aren't the first to arrive here but that person had already died unlike you who didn't let your greed cloud your judgment. While that's commendable, you still need luck to receive these special rewards."
After replying to Kayden, Weiss paused for a while before he asked, "Do you want to proceed with the coin toss or not? Even if you answered my five questions, you won't receive anything if you don't win the coin toss."
Hearing the old janitor's question, Kayden didn't hesitate since he was still confident in his luck. "Go ahead. I choose heads."
Kayden didn't wait for the old janitor to toss it yet since even if he made that decision before the old janitor tossed the coin, he wasn't some monstrous prodigy with insane calculations. He couldn't calculate and predict the correct landing face of the coin after it was tossed by the old janitor so he decided to rely on luck this time.
Since Kayden already made his decision and chose heads, Weiss tossed the coin on his hand.
The coin flipped several times in the air before it descended to the ground and started spinning. In the end, it slowed down and fell on the ground, facing "heads".
When Kayden saw that it faced heads, he breathed a sigh of relief, as if an unbearable weight was removed from his body.
After all, it was more unbearable for him to not obtain the special rewards after participating in it compared to not participating in it at all. As long as he didn't participate and didn't know about this, he wouldn't have the regret of the special reward being so close to him yet not receiving it.
So after he chose the correct outcome for the coin toss, Kayden was relieved and he patiently waited for the old janitor's next response.
Since Kayden chose the outcome of the coin toss correctly, Weiss didn't have any plans of tricking him so he took out a space storage bracelet out of thin air.
The space storage bracelet appeared, levitating above Weiss' right hand. It had the appearance of a white metallic-like surface with one blue line circling its center.
Presenting the space storage bracelet, Weiss informed Kayden, "This is the space storage bracelet, the special reward aside from the boxes of food and medicine. After all, it's inconvenient for one player to bring all of these resources without getting robbed by others so this space storage bracelet is an important game item for surviving in the apocalypse."
"It doesn't have infinite storage and only has the storage of an average classroom. It also has an anti-theft feature so as long as you drop your blood into this, you will become the sole owner of the space storage bracelet and no one else aside from you can use it."
"Even if others kill you, they won't be able to use the space storage bracelet."
"Furthermore, the blue line circling the center of the space storage bracelet indicated its capacity status. The more you fill up the space storage bracelet with items, the blue line will be filled with red until it will completely become a red line, indicating that it is already at full capacity."
"You can store items in the space storage as long as you come into contact with them. After coming into contact with an item that you want to store, use your thoughts to think of storing that item and it will be successfully stored inside the space storage bracelet as long as it has enough capacity left. And if you want to retrieve the items inside it, just use your thoughts to think of retrieving the items you want."
After informing and explaining the usage of the space storage bracelet to Kayden, Weiss tossed the space storage bracelet to Kayden which prompted Kayden to catch it.
But when Kayden caught the space storage bracelet, he felt a stinging pain in his hand and he noticed that the space storage bracelet released a small needle that pricked him. When the small needle came into contact with his blood, Kayden experienced a sense of connection with the space storage bracelet.
Afterward, Kayden used his thoughts to control the space storage bracelet, causing it to latch on his right wrist.
After Kayden was pricked by the space storage bracelet, Weiss forwarded his hand as a flash of green light lit up on Kayden's wound. When the green light came into contact with Kayden's wound, it instantly healed Kayden's wound.
"You are the first player to ever receive a special event item so I have high hopes for you. It will be a joke if you died after a zombie virus entered your wound pricked by the special event item you just received."
"And you don't have to ask for my permission. You can store every box of food and medicines on the school rooftop to your space storage bracelet. You now owned all of it along with the space storage bracelet."
After receiving those words from the old janitor, Kayden thanked the old janitor before storing all of the boxes of food and medicines in his space storage bracelet.
After Kayden stored all of those inside his space storage bracelet, he covered the space storage bracelet with his long sleeves so that it wouldn't attract too much unwanted attention.
Kayden didn't leave yet and out of curiosity, he asked the old janitor, "Old man, you seem to be aware that you are an NPC. Are the rest of the NPCs in Zombie Survival Online aware of their existence as NPCs?"
Faced with Kayden's question, Weiss decided to answer it since it wasn't a secret, "Only special event NPCs such as this old man have awareness of our existence as NPCs. For the rest of the NPCs, they will have the same awareness as the humans back in your world."
"Simply put, just think of this as what if a zombie apocalypse had occurred in your world but no one told you that it was just a death game. All basic NPCs will have that mindset unlike you and the rest of the players that think of this as a death game."
"But since they didn't know that this is a death game, those NPCs will even be more desperate than you players. You have to be wary of both players and NPCs. Otherwise, you won't live long in this world even with that special event item as it's not specialized for combat."
"You players have the advantage of obtaining special event items to use as a means of increasing the chances of survival in this zombie-apocalyptic world. However, NPCs aren't programmed to contact or even be aware of the existence of special event NPCs such as this old man."
After receiving the old janitor's answer, Kayden digested that information and pondered his next course of action.
After all, he had already obtained a year's worth of food and medicine.
'I could probably locate an underground base and live there for a year. I doubt that all of the players could survive even a year in this world.'
'However, I can't deny the possibility of zombies evolving over time. After all, the game announcement had specified that this was only the first wave of the zombie virus. If there are several waves after that, then the zombies might evolve and there will possibly be a zombie that can dig underground.'
'Furthermore, if the zombie virus can not only infect humans but also animals and plants, then it should be more difficult to create a permanent base than survive in this world. If those evolved zombies discovered an underground base, some zombie animals would have the capability of digging towards it.'
'There's also the possibility of humans evolving due to the exposure of zombie virus and that possibility might be true due to the stats grade shown in the player status screen.'
When Kayden contemplated that, he summoned the player status to check not only his current stats but also the number of surviving players.
<Player Status>
Player Name: Kayden Flynn
Age: 18
Physique: F+
Strength: F+
Agility: F
Humanity: 100%
Virus: Null
Special Event Item: Space Storage Bracelet (C)
Surviving Players: 933/1000
<———————>
The game had already informed him beforehand that the average stats of a human was F grade so Kayden wasn't worried too much about his stats. From what the game had informed him, the stats he had in the real world would be his starting stats in the game so not all players had equal stats.
On the other hand, a human who isn't infected with the zombie virus will have 100% humanity.
As for the virus stats, Kayden didn't know much about it since the game didn't give him any information about it.
But from his guess, it could mean the presence of the zombie virus within his body. Since it was at Null, then it could only mean that he wasn't infected by the zombie virus.
Taking a glance at his player status screen, Kayden noticed the change in his player status, "Previously, there wasn't any special event item category in the player status. It could mean that as long as the player encountered some special things in the game such as the special event item, it will be reflected and updated on their player status."
"From the game's evaluation, the space storage bracelet is a C-grade special event item. I don't know how good it is compared to other special event items but at least it isn't F-grade."
After checking his player status screen, Kayden decided to try his luck and asked the old janitor, "Old man, do the humans and zombies in this world evolve? Also, can the zombie virus infect animals and plants?"
Faced with Kayden's question, Weiss replied, "It's up to you to find out and explore more of this world."
"If I tell you everything, wouldn't the game become boring to play?"
Hearing that reply from the old janitor, Kayden sighed, "If this was only a mere game, I wouldn't care much. But this is a death game and if I die in this game, I will also die in real life."
"Anyway, thanks for the special event item, old man. I don't have much time to waste so I'll leave."
Knowing that he couldn't stay here anymore, Kayden left the school rooftop and he didn't forget to close the door to prevent any zombies from entering it.
Kayden knew that the old janitor didn't have any intentions of leaving the school rooftop so he no longer extended his offer of protecting the old man.
After Kayden left, Weiss sighed, "The goal of this old school janitor is already fulfilled and I can't give more space storage bracelets to other players. A special event NPC can only give one special event item."
"I'll take over the role of other NPCs. Instead of a special event NPC role, I'll just take the role of a normal NPC so I can experience the zombie world firsthand."
