บท 70: 70 Brian Spar
Ryan wish Brian goodluck as he went to spar next. Brian only had 2 students to pick from and the only one he didn't want to spar against was a speed related element. He do know that one of them have the water element too.
Even though he didn't mind fighting the water element student, but he feels like it may be easier to fight the other guy base on his looks.
So he picked the skinny short guy with the unknown element to spar against.
"I have a mutated core that is fire and earth element. I think my attack power and defense are better than average. Which would make me a decent overall good fighter."
"You better not hold back, I will tell you this now. Your mutated core combination is not rare, even if you are above average you got to still be above average against people that have the same core."
Brian had already figured this, he wasn't surprised at the guy respons. He just shook his head indicating that he understands.
"You can start." The academy student replied calmly, As he stood there without a weapon in his hand.
Brian pulled his long sword from his back and let it rest on his shoulder. He casually walked closer to his opponent. He didn't charge because he was to far away. He can only have a burst of speed in a linear movement.
It would be easy for someone to counter him if he charge from far away and can't change direction. Once he got in the range he feels comfortable with, he rapidly accelerated and swung his long sword across his opponent waist.
A light barrier block the sword, and stop the blade from continuing. Brian was surprised how easy it was for his attack to get block, but his movements did not slow down.
He used his movement technique to to help move his long sword faster and make it more powerful. He swung again and broke through the light barrier, just to hit another barrier right after.
Brian frowned when he noticed this.
"I can do this all day, if you can't force me to use another spell than you don't deserve to pass." The academy student said to Brian as he see the frustration in his eyes.
Brian wasn't worried just yet, he still have a lot of ideas he can try. Brian used his movement technique to move around his opponent to get a better angle of attack and performed a 2 handed overhead swing. He used his martial arts skill flame burst to add even more power.
The sound wasn't to loud, it was like a loud thud sound as he broke through each layer of barrier. Sadly for Brian he only got through 2 barriers, before his sword got stop by the third.
He didn't think to much about it, and just preformed earth spikes. This time Brian was actually surprised, he see his opponent standing on a light platform that is stopping his spikes from hurting him. All his spike did was push him and the platform up into the air.
"You didn't honestly believe it would be that simple, you are not the first person I fought to think of something like this. I master my spell to the point its not a simple light barrier anymore, it won't be that easy to get through it." The student said with a slight chuckle.
Brian released his spell and the student came back down to the ground. Brian started unleashing many moves with his sword in order to brake through the barrier. He was attempting one idea after another to get to his opponent.
As he repeatedly shatter the newly form barriers he been heating the ground up. The academy student already took noticed of it, it was pretty hard not to notice your feet getting hot. But he ignored it and just placed a light barrier under his feet to see what Brian planning on doing next.
Brian didn't care if he was found out or not but as long as he stayed there he was happy. After another minute of swinging his sword he performed his earth spikes at the same time he did a 2 handed overhead swing.
The academy student was raised up and this time his barrier was placed at a angle instead of just flat like before. The sword slid down the side of the barrier instead of shattering it, and the academy student just stepped to the side to avoid his barrier as he raised up in the air.
"Like I said before I fought many people that had similar ideas, you better get creative. I'm only willing to waste 4 more minutes on this spar." The academy student said as he hopped off the spikes.
Elizabeth and Ryan was starting to worry about Brian at this point.
Brian kept his calm on the outside while internally panicking.
(I don't know what I can do. Swinging my sword will obviously never work, and I only have one spell to use. If he was a rank 2 like me I'm sure I could break through his shell.)
Ryan stood there for about a minute thinking before he made a move. The academy student waited patiently for him to attack.
Brian eyes glowed for a brief moment as he remember the training these last few weeks. Even though he never tried what he about to do before but there is a chance it might work.
Brian dash at his opponent and went back to slamming his sword on the barriers. This time after a few swings Brian used his earth spikes around his opponent and trapped him. He was trapped inside a cone shape earth cage.
The academy student didn't break free, he could if he wanted to. The point of the spar is not to beat the other but to prove there strength, and he have to give them a chance to do that.
Brian used his movement skill to move around his opponent where his opponent could barely see him swinging his sword.
It was barely but the academy student could still see through the cage gaps. So he was prepared to receive the attack.
Just as Brian was about to swing. He used earth spikes again underneath his opponent. His opponent wasn't caught off guard, he figured something like this might happen. He placed a barrier above his head, underneath his feet, and the side Brian was attacking from.
But to the academy student surprised, instead of Brian slashing his sword across horizontally. Brian changed the attack to an upwards swing, aiming at the barrier underneath his opponent feet.
His opponent had limited view inside the cone cage and didn't notice the slight change. Brian used his movement technique and martial art flames burst to make his strike as powerful as he could.
He broke through his own earth cage and the barrier at the same time. Sadly for Brian when the academy student realized that, he instinctively jumped up raising his feet from the sword, before the sword made contact. Than he cast another barrier underneath his feet.
Brian realized he failed with his attack and didn't waste time to jumped towards the student. He slash his sword out again but the barrier block him again.
The academy student jumped down and Brian came rushing at him again. "Hold on, hold on, hold on." The academy student repeated as he back away.
Brian hearing this heart dropped. He clenched his fist and looked down without saying a word.
You could see the helplessness in Elizabeth eyes as she watch this. Ryan just showed slight sadness in his expression seeing Brian fail.
"Do not look all depressed just yet. You may not had made me use another spell, but you showed me a flaw in my defense. I think you have the potential to keep improving. You passed." The academy student said nonchalantly as he walked back to the other student.
Brian was left on the stage speechless and stunned that he passed. He collected himself and put on a big smile as he walked off the stage to his sister. He had no interest in questioning why exactly he passed.
No judges took real notice of the spar, there was nothing that stood out.
Ryan turn was next, he was happy for Brian could pass but he was extremely worried for himself.
