บท 303: Battery

The once flowing starlight in Star-Lord's eyes instantly faded like a stream, revealing pupils filled with rage.

"Son, listen to me, I..."

Before Ego could offer any false explanation, Star-Lord pulled out the energy gun hanging at his waist and, without hesitation, aimed and fired at Ego.

Enraged, Ego then beat Star-Lord, who had not yet mastered the powers of a Celestial. Gamora, who came to help, was also suspended midair by Ego's energy tendrils.

Reality is reality—Ego was a legitimate six-dimensional Celestial, not someone who could be defeated repeatedly like in the movies. If he wanted, Ego could have erased Star-Lord and Gamora in an instant, leaving not even a trace of their souls.

"Quill, open your eyes and look," Ego controlled his energy tendrils to drag the struggling Gamora right in front of the pinned Star-Lord.

"Look at this woman. How fragile she is, just one bullet would end her life completely. Even if no external force kills her, time will eventually age her, turning her into dust. Only we are eternal!"

"Expand, divide, reproduce—turn everything in this world into us! This is the true meaning that the universe has bestowed upon us.

Love, friendship, justice—these are all illusions that collapse in the face of such a grand cause. Don't you understand, my son?!"

Ego, stepping on an energy tendril rising from the ground, came face-to-face with Star-Lord. He grabbed him by the collar, forcing their eyes to meet, and roared in excitement.

But at this moment, his twisted conviction could no longer shake Star-Lord's mind.

The look in Star-Lord's eyes was no longer one of closeness or respect; it was the look of someone staring at a mortal enemy.

"You... are... not... my... father!" Star-Lord said, his voice steady despite being suspended in the air.

Hearing these words, Ego, visibly frustrated, released Star-Lord's collar.

He looked into Star-Lord's hate-filled eyes and said, "Peter, you're still too young. Your humanity is clouding your true nature."

"When I kill this woman, I believe you'll wake up a little faster."

After saying this, Ego turned away and looked at Gamora, who was tightly wrapped in an energy tendril, her head the only part visible.

Seeing the cold indifference in Ego's eyes, Star-Lord panicked. The Celestial power within him surged instinctively, almost breaking through Ego's restraints.

But in the end, he was no match for Ego. He was far inferior in both strength and mastery of Celestial power compared to the billions-of-years-old Ego.

All his struggles were in vain.

"You can't hurt her! If you kill her, I'll never help you!" Star-Lord roared in fury.

Ego paused for a moment, turned his head, and glanced at Star-Lord with a strange expression. "Who needs your help? You're just a battery!"

With that, he controlled the energy tendril around Gamora, tightening it bit by bit. The sharp sound of bones cracking and Gamora's involuntary cries of pain echoed throughout the hall.

Just as her cries grew weaker, a commanding voice spread across the entire planet of Ego.

"Ego, come out and face me!"

A vast voice, carrying an overwhelming presence as if capable of annihilating all things, descended upon the entire planet of Ego.

In an instant, time seemed to stop.

The fragrant breeze on Ego's planet was frozen mid-air, then suddenly shattered into countless weak streams of air.

The countless bubbles in the sky, reflecting the light of the stars, also burst and disappeared without a trace.

What was once a vibrant planet now seemed draped in a gray veil after the arrival of Zane's aura.

In the grand hall, upon hearing Zane's soul-piercing voice, Ego's actions came to a halt.

The entire planet was Ego's body, and naturally, he could sense Zane's immense power clearly. Without a doubt, this was another six-dimensional being, just like him.

But in the vast universe, there were only a few six-dimensional beings, and Ego knew each of them well. Yet, Zane's presence felt entirely unfamiliar to him.

Suddenly, Ego recalled a message sent by the Collector and the Grandmaster to the Celestial group just a day earlier: a six-dimensional being, deified through faith, was collecting the Infinity Stones.

The number of stones in their possession was unknown, but it was definitely more than one.

Yes, Ego was a member of the Celestials. In fact, he had been one of the original members since ancient times—practically a founding elder of the 169 Celestials.

When he first heard the message, Ego hadn't paid it any mind. Beings like the one described in the message appeared every few million years.

Ego was long accustomed to such occurrences and didn't give it much thought.

In his mind, beings like Zane either ended up sentenced to death by the "Judge" or wisely gave up the Infinity Stones and joined the Celestial group to become one of them.

The outcome was always predetermined, so there was no reason for Ego to pay attention.

But now, it seemed that the individual from that message was this young man standing before him.

Ego hadn't expected him to show up before the "Judge" could even issue a verdict.

A hint of displeasure flickered in Ego's eyes as he regarded Zane, who had interrupted his plans.

After spending billions of years immersed in the six-dimensional level, there were few beings Ego feared, except for a handful of twisted individuals in the Celestial group.

With a thought, the energy tendril under Ego's control surged violently, instantly breaking through the roof of the grand hall.

It continued to grow until it reached tens of thousands of meters high, breaching the atmosphere and stopping only when it was face-to-face with Zane.

Ego's eyes flashed coldly as he looked at Zane, who was standing in the void, dressed casually.

"Newly ascended powerhouse, why have you come to find me?" Ego asked, glancing at Zane and the massive mechanical planet behind him.

"I want Gamora," Zane replied, his face emotionless as he stared directly at Ego.

Hearing Zane's demand, a disdainful smile appeared on Ego's face.

"Who do you think you are? You're just a lucky individual with a bit of talent who stumbled into becoming six-dimensional."

"Now you've violated our rules. Once the 'Judge' passes judgment, you won't even be able to save yourself."

"And yet, you dare come to my territory and demand someone from me? Who gave you the courage?"

Ego sized up Zane, sensing his power, and spoke with complete contempt.

But Zane, hearing Ego's obvious mockery, did not show any anger. Instead, his eyes lit up.

"So, you're part of the Celestial group as well?" Zane asked with a smile.

"Of course," Ego nodded with some pride.

"Kid, I suggest you hand over the Infinity Stones while you still can."
