When Zion reached her, he bent down, scooped her from the floor without warning, and carried her in princess style.
Monique was caught off guard. Her eyes widened, and she nervously asked Zion, "Hey, what are you doing?"
Zion peered at the woman in his arms, sneered in his heart, and replied sarcastically, "You're the one I should ask."
Then he shot her a series of questions.
"What the hell are you doing? Why are you walking too slowly? I have many things to do, so I want this wedding to end sooner."
Monique glanced at her soon-to-be husband. She could see that he was only concealing his irritation.
"I'm sorry." She apologizes hurriedly. The last thing she would do on her wedding day in front of strangers was embarrass herself or her groom.
It was the least she could do in return for the favor he had provided her.
"Thank you, by the way," she added.
Zion did not reply but merely cast a quick look at her.
Meanwhile, the crowd becomes excited as they cheer and clap loudly in response to what he had done just moments ago.
"Oh, my god! It looks like our boss cannot wait to get married!"
"Ah, how sweet of him to meet his bride halfway! I never witnessed this side of him!"
Zion ignored his staff, who misunderstood his action. Now they were babbling nonsense, more likely gossiping about him. However, correcting them was the least of his concerns. Instead, he increases his pace and puts Monique down when they reach the altar.
Hansel gave him a grin. He glared at the man and hissed, "Begin now!"
Hansel rolled his eyes and then coughed, clearing his throat.
"Hello, everyone. We are gathered tonight to witness the union of our dear boss and a family, Zion Dawson, to his beloved soon-to-be wife, our beautiful Signora, Monique Ramirez."
Hansel begins his speech, and his words are full of flowery phrases.
Listening to him, Zion cast him another dagger look, conveying a dangerous warning to end this ceremony as soon as possible: his flattering speech was unnecessary.
Hansel had the desire to ignore him. But he knew better that he shouldn't provoke Zion. Thus, he proceeded to exchange vows and rings.
"Please follow me, Signor," Hansel urges Zion.
"My love, Monique... accept this ring as the symbol..."
Hansel paused when Zion did not follow him. "Hey, do you want to finish the ceremony or not?"
The air surrounding Zion could freeze one's limbs. He was reluctant; however, he had to follow these annoying vows rather than delay the ceremony's conclusion.
Zion cleared his throat and smiled stiffly. In Grace's words, he followed Hansel.
"My love, Monique, accept this ring as a symbol of my love and fidelity as your forever husband."
The moment he finished, Zion instantly cast a murderous glare at Hansel because of the nonsense spouting from his mouth.
However, the man ignores him, and so, he is forced to imitate his words.
Hansel then turned to Monique and beamed. "Please follow my words, Signora."
Hansel was still using Grace's language when he uttered the vow and Monique tried her best to pronounce the local language.
"My dear Zion, accept this ring as a symbol of my heart that no one I will love in this lifetime but you forever..."
Monique felt like her vows contained things she shouldn't have said to a man who was only a stranger to her and to whom she had no feelings.
But she wanted this ceremony to end already as she could feel her legs giving out soon.
"Now, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
A thunderous clap erupted. The witnesses smiled broadly as they looked forward to seeing their boss kiss his bride.
Upon hearing this last line from Hansel announcing that this wedding ceremony had reached its climax, Zion pursed his lips and intently stared at his now-official wife.
Monique's eyelashes fluttered, blushing upon seeing her husband lower his face. She closed her eyes and waited for the kiss that had never happened.
'What's going on?'
She opened her eyes and saw Hansel whispering in Zion's ear. She could tell it wasn't pleasant as the latter's face blackened, and now he was exuding a dangerous aura, far from a groom's supposed affectionate countenance.
"Hey, bro. If you want me to legalize this marriage, make sure to kiss your bride on the lips!"
Hansel had already guessed Zion would only take a peck on Monique's cheek. Thus, he is prepared to threaten this man.
Indeed, it was Zion's plan. And reading him through, he couldn't scold Hansel, as the man knew how stingy he was.
And because Hansel knew him well, now the man had the audacity to toy with him at his wedding!
Zion was livid. He eyed him with warnings to wait for the day he could get back at him. 'I will ensure to embarrass you on your wedding day!'
Zion swore to his heart, and Hansel felt a chill on his spine, sensing that a terrible fate was approaching him.
'Did I overdo it?' he thought. He was actually only joking at Zion. But knowing this man, there is no way he won't retaliate in the future.
Zion only wishes to end the ceremony so that he'll stop dealing with unnecessary courtesies. He shortened their distance, stood upright, and peered at his blushing wife. He hooked his left arm around her slender waist and slowly lowered his head.
Monique's heart raced upon tasting the warm mouth brushing hers that soon became demanding when he started devouring her and she was seduced to return the eagerness he performed.
She was unaware that their wedding officiant had only threatened to not register the marriage if the groom refused to kiss his bride on the lips.
Hence, the supposed light kiss deepened as seconds passed by.
Monique chases her breath after the long kiss. When the latter released her from his embrace, she realized her legs had entirely lost their strength.
Therefore, Monique had to grab Zion and hug his slender waist to borrow some strength. She could no longer remain standing but lean on him. And before he misunderstood, she apologized and explained.
"I'm really sorry, sir. I am exhausted and starving."
Zion's brow furrowed when his now-wife only addressed him with such formality.
"What did you call me?"
Monique looked up, and with confusion, she met Zion's intense gaze. She gulped and was about to let him go with the thought that he was dissatisfied when she was bold enough to cling to him just because he kissed her.
However, the latter grabbed her hands and put them back around his waist, which surprised him.
His own actions took him aback. He didn't understand why his body was so familiar with being this close to her.
As the ceremony ended, the wedding hall was filled with wedding wishes for the newlyweds. The cheer even became louder when the two kissed and were so intimate.
"Congratulations, boss!"
"Congratulations, bro! Woot, Woot!"
Luis and the others made more noise upon witnessing how the two brushed their bodies, displaying such affection before them.
Zion maintains a calm appearance despite the crazy crowd, who even tease them when he carries Monique again.
Since she complained of being famished, he scooped her and strode toward the small stage and settled her on the loveseat for the newlyweds to lounge while the celebration proceeded to the next part of the wedding.
"Come here," Zion called Lemuel.
"Signor, Signora, congratulations on your wedding!"
"Thank you," Monique replied. She wanted to show her gratitude to Lemuel, but the smile on her lips was weak.
"Cut it out!" Zion doesn't want to hear another best wish. His ears had enough. Noticing Monique's pale skin, he glared at Lemuel and ordered, "Bring us food here!"
Lemuel wanted to share a piece of his mind regarding the sequences of tonight's wedding celebration, but when he looked closely at Monique just then, he noticed how she appeared unwell.
"Right away, Signor!"
Lemuel left the stage and scurried to the buffet area. He instructed the wait staff to bring the dishes over.
Meanwhile, Zion's friends came over to congratulate them as the wedding ceremony ended. But before they could deliver their speech, he chased them away.
"Scram!"
Zion noticed the beads of sweat forming on Monique's forehead. Indicating she isn't well.
Luis complained, "Tsk. How could you treat your closest friends in such a manner? We simply wished to introduce ourselves to your wife."
"Yeah. How could you chase your friends away?" Miguel Hudson chimed in.
It didn't long and Lemuel returned with a few staff, bringing several dishes. Realizing how these tycoons surrounded the newlyweds, he hurried and dispersed the crowd for Monique to breathe some air.
He was that sensible. But no. According to him, he is merely a genius with a high EQ.
"Sirs, let's proceed to the next program of the wedding. So please go back to your tables."
"Lemuel, we know you will take your boss's side. But you can't chase us out, too."
"Sir, Signora Monique was not feeling well. She needs something to munch on first."
Hansel, who approached them, heard Lemuel's reasoning. In an instant, a naughty idea popped out of his head.
"Zion, is Monique pregnant?"
Zion was sipping champagne and bus words choked him. He glared at Hansel and spat, "The hell!"
Hearing Hansel make such remarks, the others are ecstatic with the news.
"Hey, bro! Did you rush the wedding because of a baby on the way?"
Zion opens his mouth to correct their wrong assumptions.
But then someone kicks the door, and a man in his early sixties emerges with numerous bodyguards and a sophisticated woman behind him.
"Zion! What's the meaning of this?"
