บท 5: Chapter 5: Meet Eternal Genin Kosuke
As soon as class ended, Mizuki hurriedly made his way to a secluded patch of forest that he had discovered, intending to use it as his training ground.
He began practicing the three body techniques and Body Flicker technique that he had learned from the academy instructor earlier that day. With focused determination, Mizuki executed each sequence: Tiger, Boar, Ox, Dog, Snake, followed by the Substitution Jutsu. In a puff of smoke, his body was replaced by a log, indicating successful execution after numerous attempts that morning.
Satisfied with his progress, Mizuki then turned his attention to mastering the Clone Jutsu and Transformation Jutsu. With repeated hand signs and intense concentration, he finally achieved success: a perfect Clone Jutsu using the hand signs Ram, Snake, Tiger. A puff of smoke revealed his clone standing beside him, a testament to his improving skills.
Exhausted and low on chakra, Mizuki's stomach growled loudly, reminding him of his hunger. Following the tantalizing aroma of food, Mizuki eventually stumbled upon an elderly man sitting beside a simmering hotpot.
"Who are you, old man? And what are you doing here?" Mizuki asked cautiously.
The old man, Kosuke Maruboshi, looked up with a warm smile. "Oh, I'm just making a hotpot with ingredients I gathered from nature. Why are you out here?"
Mizuki noticed that Kosuke resembled the eternal genin Kosuke from the Naruto series, albeit younger. "I... I was training," Mizuki admitted sheepishly, embarrassed by his hunger.
Kosuke chuckled. "Join me for dinner, young one. You look like you could use a good meal."
Gratefully, Mizuki sat down and began to eat, stealing curious glances at Kosuke. "Are you a genin?"
Kosuke nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Yes, I've been a genin for many years."
Mizuki couldn't help but ask, "Why haven't you been promoted to Chunin or Jonin after all these years?"
Kosuke chuckled again, a hint of nostalgia in his eyes. "I have my reasons, kid."
Mizuki's curiosity piqued. "Would you train me? I need to improve my skills and find someone to spar with."
Kosuke raised an eyebrow. "You want an old genin like me to train you?"
"It doesn't matter," Mizuki replied earnestly. "You can teach me powerful techniques, right?"
Kosuke smiled warmly. "Alright, I'll train you. Meet me here tomorrow, and I'll teach you some of my jutsu."
"Thank you, old man," Mizuki said with a grin.
Kosuke nodded. "What elemental affinities do you have? Have you checked with chakra paper?"
Mizuki nodded. "I have Fire and Earth Release. I think I might have Yin and Yang Release too, but I'm not sure."
"Interesting," Kosuke mused. "We'll work on that. Don't be late tomorrow."
"I won't forget," Mizuki assured him, finishing the last of his meal. "And by the way, your cooking is amazing. I couldn't stop eating."
Kosuke chuckled. "Eat well, grow strong, kid."
With dinner finished and the dishes cleaned, Mizuki bid Kosuke goodnight and headed back to his apartment. As he settled into bed, thoughts of the future and the looming Third Ninja War filled his mind.
"I've read about the Third Ninja War," Mizuki thought to himself. "But there's so much more I need to learn."
Feeling a wave of exhaustion, Mizuki pulled the blankets over himself and drifted off to sleep, looking forward to his training with Kosuke.
