"Wha… what do we do now?" A lady asked, already shaking from fear.
"Run!" The driver yelled, turning around and running away.
Alan and Ezekiel ran as well, running in the same direction as the man. The others followed behind them.
"Don't come this way, spread out so they won't be able to kill everyone." The driver said.
The others considered his words and quickly realized that he was right. The Siliks will be able to kill all of them if they run in the same direction, but if they went different ways, a few might be able to escape.
Alan, Ezekiel, and three others ran in one direction. While the others all went in different directions.
The Siliks were already out of the bunker and soon started chasing after the group. They were faster than humans and given their size, all it would take was a single swipe from their claws and their target would be decapitated if the attack made contact.
….
Alan and Ezekiel were panting heavily as they ran through the woods, two young men and a young lady were behind them. All running for their lives.
Boom!
An explosion suddenly rang out behind them, at least five hundred meters or so.
They exchanged glances before running as fast as their legs could carry them. That explosion was an attack from a Silik, and it must be getting closer as they ran.
After running for a few hundred meters, they soon started to hear the sound of something large coming closer to them. Fear and despair started to wash over them.
Ezekiel looked at Alan, "Now's not the time for this, come on!"
He turned towards another direction, a tunnel was right in front of them. This was the tunnel of a train track, and this wasn't the first time he was coming here.
The sound of the Silik was already closer than they hoped, and they could even hear its ragged breathing, luckily, only one was chasing after them, and they managed to get a good headstart.
Ezekiel and Alan were the first to enter the dark tunnel, the two young men were behind them, and just as the young lady was about to enter, she was caught by the Silik.
"Ah!"
Her scream of terror resounded in the entire tunnel, echoing inside.
Ezekiel had a flashlight in his hands, Alan tried to look back to see what was happening, but he was stopped by Ezekiel who shook his head.
"This way." Ezekiel said as they passed through a small entrance in the tunnel.
After going in, they entered a building with multiple rooms.
They continued running further.
The entrance was too small for the Silik, but it destroyed the sides, widening it in the process so it would fit it.
It soon entered the building and chased after the four youths. However, something heavy suddenly fell from above, forcing it to the ground.
Bang!
The Silik fell flat on the ground as it never expected that the little humans would attack it.
When Ezekiel heard this sound, he smiled, "Haha, yes! We can escape if this continues."
"Ezekiel, what was that?" Alan asked out of curiosity as they continued running.
Even though he was out of breath, he was still a little curious as to the cause of the sound, and with Ezekiel laughing, it meant he knew what happened.
"I usually come here whenever I'm bored. I set a series of traps here, just in case I ever got in a situation like this. I never thought it would be of use." Ezekiel explained as they climbed a ladder that led up.
Alan was impressed by Ezekiel's thinking. Being able to come out of the bunker and make something like this was quite impressive and courageous. First of all, he had to think of his safety while making this since there was a chance of encountering a Silik while wandering around. Then making these traps will naturally take a lot of time and effort.
Another loud sound soon rang out, followed by three more in quick succession.
Screech!
The group heard a loud, angry screech from behind them. It was coming from none other than the Silik that was chasing after them.
"You provoked it." Alan said softly.
"It will try to kill us anyway, why not try to see if we can get lucky and escape?" Ezekiel shrugged as climbed to the place the ladder led. They entered another room, but this one was aboveground. The tunnel they entered was underground.
The area to climb up the ladder was only around the size of a human, so the Silik couldn't get through it. Of course, it could destroy it, but it would take some time.
Just after the last person climbed out of the ladder, a light beam shot up from the place. Shooting into the roof, destroying it in the process.
The ceiling soon started to fall apart. The place the light beam hit was the first to cave in.
"Oh no, run. This place is collapsing." Ezekiel yelled when he saw the cracks spreading above them.
They all ran as fast as they could. A faint light was visible ahead of them. It was their way out of this place.
The Silik continued sending out light beams, as it tried to force its way past the space. Unfortunately, it was simply too large. What annoyed it more was that it had managed to crawl a little into it, so the upper half of its body was stuck inside without much room to maneuver.
Alan, Ezekiel, and the two young men managed to come out of the tunnel before it fell.
They stared at it, before looking ahead of them. A city was in front of them, and with no other option, they headed toward the city.
Staying outside was too dangerous, especially for a group of unarmed youngsters.
For now, they had to be happy that they survived, some of the others weren't so lucky. The group survived thanks to Ezekiel's already prepared traps and coolheadedness.
After getting to the city, they found a building that was still intact, before going inside. They found a good place that was hidden and hid there, all still panting heavily from the long chase. Humans didn't have the stamina for such a chase, only awakened or Supremes have such abilities. The only reason they were able to run for this long was due to pure adrenaline rush. Now that they got to a place to rest, they all collapsed to the ground.
The moon was still hanging up in the sky, and from their estimation, there were still about four hours or so till sunrise. According to what has been gathered about Siliks, they don't like moving in the daytime, although they do move then, it's said that they are at their strongest when the moon is up.
Alan always joked around, saying that they were like those werewolves' stories he had read. Even with the near extinction of humanity, most of their folklore remained.
