He didn't try to peek out to see exactly where Gu Xuan was. Poking his head out would allow the beam of light to cast his shadow on the ground, revealing his position.

Shangguan Xuanyi patiently waited for a while to pinpoint Gu Xuan's location by sensing his aura, before swiftly launching a flying dart.
