บท 8: CHAPTER 8: HE’S ANNOYING BIG TIME

Without a word, Grandma instinctively checked on Draymond's wound.

Draymond held his mouth and simply watched Grandma's movement, his eyes fixed on her as she examined him.

After a few moments, Grandma said, her tone was gentle. "Thank goodness your wound didn't worsen. Be more careful next time, young man," she then gestured towards the food tray on the bedside table. "I bought you some food. Eat up and take your medicine."

Draymond nodded in appreciation, then lowered his head once more.

Thoughts swirled in his mind as he reflected on Grandma's kind and caring nature.

'Grandma took care of me this much. How could I possibly repay her kindness?' he asked himself, feeling grateful.

"Why do you keep lowering your head? Stop doing that and dig in. You had a flare-up episode a few minutes ago, and you clearly have a lot on your mind. You must be losing a lot of energy, so regain it through eating," Grandma urged, and she stood up, walking towards the doorway.

"I'll leave you for now," she added, offering him a genuine smile before turning her back and heading to the doorway.

Draymond watched Grandma's retreating figure, wanting to express his gratitude but choosing to remain silent.

However, just as Grandma was about to open the door, she paused, remembering something important.

"Dray," she called out, her voice soft and comforting. "Remember, no matter what life throws at you, always remember to breathe." Her warm smile added a sense of reassurance to her words.

She opened the door and left him speechless.

Draymond closed his eyes, absorbing the weight of Grandma's simple advice.

"Grandma just said a simple word. But it conveys hundreds of hidden meanings," he murmured, and his heart was touched by her wisdom.

Zarina sat on the couch, clutching a throw pillow tightly in her lap, her nerves frayed. Time passed slowly, feeling like an eternity, as she anxiously waited for her grandma. Then, the soft sound of a woman's footsteps broke the silence, and Zarina's eyes immediately turned toward her approaching Grandma. Standing there was Grandma, her face showing no clear emotion.

Zarina swallowed hard, anticipating her grandma's scolding.

Grandma settled on the couch opposite her, and the living room fell into a heavy silence. Then, Grandma took a deep breath to regain her composure before finally speaking.

Grandma's voice was soft but filled with disappointment. "Why do you always raise your voice when talking to Draymond? Have you forgotten what I've always told you? Maintain your calmness when dealing with issues or problems."

Zarina bit her lip, guilt and regret evident on her face.

"Grandma, I'm sorry. Honestly, I don't know why my anger suddenly flares up when talking to that... that dumbass," she replied softly, almost a whisper.

"Zarina! Watch your words," Grandma said sharply, her eyes narrowing in disapproval.

Zarina lowered her head, avoiding Grandma's sharp stares.

"Tell me. What is your problem with Draymond?" Grandma pressed on, her voice gentle yet demanding.

Zarina tilted her head, her thoughts muddled as she struggled to find an answer to appease her grandmother.

She then quickly said, "Umm, nothing, but I hate how he talks to me like that. He can make me speechless," she confessed hesitantly.

Grandma nodded and continued, "So, it really hurts your pride that Draymond has the guts to talk back to you? Well, honey, I think you are lucky," she said with a smile, leaving Zarina puzzled.

Zarina's eyes widened as she stared at her grandma in confusion. "What's so lucky about being triggered by him all the time, Grandma? You're unbelievable," she exclaimed, clearly not understanding her grandmother's perspective.

Grandma leaned back on the couch, wearing a wry smile at the corner of her mouth.

"Well, let's just say a person like Draymond doesn't enjoy getting into meaningless arguments. But when he argues with you, he can speak up for himself," Grandma explained courtly.

'Judging by my granddaughter's stern expression, I think she might not agree with my direct comment,' Grandma pondered, contemplating how to persuade Zarina.

"I don't understand what you're saying, Grandma," Zarina admitted quickly, and her confusion grew deeper.

"Let's leave it for another time, dear. It's not the right moment to discuss it with you. However, for now, I'd like you to treat him as a friend," Grandma said, her gaze lacking eyes with Zarina.

Zarina gritted her teeth in frustration.

'Ahh! This silver-haired woman loves to leave me with cliff-hanging statements,' she grumbled silently, with flaring nostrils.

"What?! Befriend that annoying guy? He's annoying big time!" Zarina protested, her voice a bit loud. "He'll just surely ruin my mood, annoy me, and tease me all the time," she added, her lips pouting inwardly.

Zarina gritted her teeth, her irritation becoming more apparent.

"Ahh! I tried to imagine being his friend, and it felt like a never-ending torment. Just thinking about his annoying face starts to make my blood boil," she murmured under her breath.

Grandma's hope began to fade as she observed her granddaughter's resistant expression.

'It seems like I'll have a hard time persuading her. I almost forgot that they quarrel like a cat and a dog,' Grandma sighed hopelessly.

Suddenly, Grandma's face lit up as an idea crossed her mind.

Grandma chuckled inwardly, thinking, 'I'll play my last card. I know your weakness, honey. How forgetful of me to overlook it.'

"Draymond has a long-standing condition, a secret known only to him and me," Grandma replied in a hushed tone, hoping to pique Zarina's curiosity.

Grandma thought, 'If I can't convince you with my serious talk, maybe trying to act pitiful will work.'

Zarina leaned in, her eyes wide in surprise.

"What's going on?" she inquired, studying Grandma's wrinkled face for hints.

Grandma smiled, feeling victorious that her plan had worked.

'I had a feeling this would pique her interest. Curiosity can be a powerful motivator, Zarina, and this is my way to draw you in,' she thought, a silent chuckle playing in her mind.

Leaning in closer to meet Zarina's eyes, Grandma asked, "Are you really curious?"

Zarina nodded eagerly, her curiosity now fully aroused.

With a mischievous grin, Grandma played her last card.

"But friends share secrets, don't they? I thought I'd make a delicious tender grilled Iberian pork dish tomorrow, but now I've lost my interest because I'm so sad for Draymond," she said dramatically, pretending to cry with fake tears.

Zarina gulped, her mind filled with thoughts of the tender grilled Iberian pork sizzling on a grill, making her mouth water.
