บท 22: I Love You
Cassie wanted to burst into laughter, but her tears betrayed her. When Theo met her gaze, she looked away and hugged Rona.
"Shh… I'm here." Even Rona was lost for words because of what she had heard.
"Get out," she said to Theo, cold and stern.
Theo stretched his arm and was about to hold her when Rona talked. "She will leave your freaking house, Smith."
Theo's eyes were so full of gloominess that he wanted to punch Blake at any moment.
"Leave Theo, and please don't ever try to stop Cici from staying away from a jerk like you," Rona spat as she caressed Cassie's back.
Theo stepped backward but called Cassie's name. "Cassie… let's talk—"
Cassie didn't reply as her tears continued to flow down her cheeks.
"Leave, Theo."
The next day.
Because of what had taken place, Cassie and Rona were unable to successfully relocate out of Cassie's things. On the other hand, Rona went to the mansion with her to ensure that there would be no conflict between Cassie and Theo.
Of the thing that happened last night, they're afraid that they will get involved with Smith's businesses. And Cassie knew that what she was doing was for the better.
She wanted to laugh out loud because of the sudden turn of events. One day, Theo went aloof. Now, it was her.
Rona was helping Cassie to pack her things when Cliff called her.
"What's wrong, Cliff?" she asked as she followed the man.
"Mr. Smith requires your presence," he replied.
Cassie let out a long sigh. She had anticipated what would happen. There was an agreement between them. Fear gripped her as soon as she stepped into Theo's study room.
Is this it?
Is this really their end?
She hemmed to clear her throat and caught Theo's attention.
"You're aware that you signed the papers," Theo said, making her body tense.
She pressed her lips together as she met Theo's eyes. "We can break the agreement. This is for the better, Theo."
Theo let out a smirk. "Better? Are you getting affected by Moretti—"
"This is not just about whoever that Moretti. This is about us. We're not meant to be. I like you—scratch that. I just realized that I love you, but it's already too late, and we can't change the fact that you're strong and powerful, and I am useless and weak." She can't even defend her rights a few years ago toward her father.
"Damn it!" Theo cursed as he slammed the door. "Why would you be concerned about our strength and status? I love you! And you love me—"
"No."
"All right, Cassie. Please don't say anything. You've already stated it. Love triumphs over all. In both love and conflict, it is fair. It's all about taking chances in love. You'll fall in love with me, not Moretti. You don't have to convince him that you love me. He's simply my best friend. I am enough, and we are enough. Our mutual understanding is sufficient for us to construct—"
"You don't understand, Theo. Please don't make things more complicated than they used to be. I made my decision. And please, accept the truth that whatever we started was done."
Then suddenly, Cassie felt the cold droplets on her cheeks. She then wiped it away. She smiled. "T-Thank you for everything, Theo. God knows how fortunate we were when you came into our life, even if it's just a short period."
"Cassie… please, don't do this."
Cassie smiled and walked closer to him, and Theo was about to hold her hand when she pulled it away.
"Cassie…"
"You're getting engage—"
"And you fucking believe him?"
Cassie pressed her lips together. "He said so—"
"And you believe him that fast? Do you believe him over me? I am known to be heartless—how come I developed that name? How can I love another woman and even get married after my beloved wife?"
"See—"
"Not until I found you. Not until I claimed you that night. Not when I saw my daughter. It change everything the moment you enter my fucking life, Cici. Things started to collapse when I saw you. Yes, Cici. I fucking love you. And it is always be you!"
"You're getting engage—"
"Fuck it!"
Cassie gasped when Theo punched the wall. Her eyes went down to his knuckle, and eyes widened in horror.
"You're bleeding—"
"Cassie, please…"
"No." She must not look vulnerable. She must stop worrying about him. "Camila will still be your daughter. You can get her anytime you want. You can visit her. I will not stop you from your fatherly responsibilities. I'm sorry, but we will move out," she said and left the room.
Theo clenched his fist and punched the wall one more time.
Suddenly, the door opened, and it showed Ambrose and Cliff.
"What happened, Sir?" Ambrose asked.
"We heard a loud—"
"Get out!" Theo yelled, making the two confused, yet they followed his order.
Theo fell into silence for a moment, then suddenly… he stood up and exited his office.
Ambrose and Cliff follow him, and the two seem to know why Theo is acting so cold and scary.
This has something to do with Cassie's departure. The two knew about the love of their boss towards Cassie, and it was their first time seeing Theo like this… especially with a woman after his late wife.
Theo was known to be cold yet calm and wouldn't let distractions evade his mind. But what they're seeing now is not Theodore anymore. He became unguarded and slightly fragile… because of LOVE… again.
He became soft, and the two knew that this might be good or bad for him.
Theo is no ordinary person, and like Moretti and the rest, who have enemies, so is he. And involving love in it is a great distraction that might lead to everyone's downfall.
At this moment, Ambrose knew that Blake Moretti had successfully made his way to stop Theo from digging his own pit.
