บท 90: Victorious Return
Helena walked towards Blanc and gave him a pat on the back.
"That was a good fight, Blanc! You were amazing! Congratulations on finally breaking through to Swordmaster!"
"Thanks, it was a hard fight for me. Fortunately, I managed to win."
"Why are you so modest? It was visible that throughout the whole fight, it was only his sword intent that pulled him through. If you both had sword intent from the start, there's no way he would even have a chance against you!"
"I mean, with that fighting style? No way! How sad, not only was he ugly, he is also stupid when it comes to duels."
Helena said.
After a few more congratulatory words from the battalion commanders and the soldiers, Blanc ordered them to start cleaning up the battlefield.
Some of the soldiers started picking up the spoils of war such as the armor and weapons while the others started digging deep pits to bury the enemy soldiers.
After two days of work, the bodies were finally buried and the notable persons such as the general and Gar were given a proper burial.
Finally, after cleaning up, Blanc and his men marched towards Resonance City victoriously.
Everyone was in a good mood. Blanc's execution of their plan was impeccable. Although there were many people who suffered light and heavy injuries, no one died.
This is thanks to not only the perfect execution of the plan but also to the ruthless training regimen and the unmatched equipment crafted by Doran and the blacksmiths.
After a few hours of marching, the city was finally visible.
The citizens already got word that the army was victorious and thus, they were waiting at the gates with flowers, ready to welcome the brave soldiers who fought for their safety.
As they were marching in the middle of the path created by the citizens, flowers were thrown their way and there were many citizens who were shouting how grateful they were.
In addition to this, there were many young men who looked at them with fanaticism and admiration.
How glorious!
This was the first time that the soldiers were welcomed by a large number of citizens after a victory. Not to mention, this is a nation-level war that they just fought in and won.
After experiencing such a glorious and harmonious feeling in their hearts, they vowed to protect their city even more as their loyalty towards their city lord increased again.
The city lord has led them through many operations and ensured that those operations were always a success with the minimum number of casualties.
This is why they were grateful for having a kind and capable city lord.
After basking in glory for a few more minutes, the soldiers finally arrived at the training grounds inside the city.
They quickly removed their armor and weapons so that they could go home to their families as soon as possible.
Unfortunately for some of the soldiers, they would be unable to spend time with their families for the night as they were confined in the city's hospital to be treated.
Especially those who are heavily injured because the potions are only able to stop the bleeding but it couldn't help them fully recover.
Those who lost their limbs will unfortunately be forced to retire after their treatment.
However, a ceremony will be held for them in addition to a lifetime pension from the city hall.
A few more hours passed and the city was finally quiet.
Bright lights and the moon illuminated the peaceful city. The soldiers' families were in complete serenity as they felt the security of sleeping together with their husbands, fathers, and sons.
During the past few days, everyone has been so anxious and uneasy. Finally, the war was over and their army was victorious just like what their city lord said.
Everyone is sleeping peacefully tonight, especially the new citizens. They were the most anxious ones during wartime because they knew little about the city.
Fortunately, their city lord didn't fail them. Due to this, the new citizens started to feel a sense of belonging in their new city.
"Maybe here, in this city, we can happily live until old age."
Positive thoughts flooded the citizens' minds as they enjoyed the serenity of their new city.
Time quickly passed and morning came.
Today, the streets of the city are bustling. The soldiers were given three days of leave as a reward for successfully defending the city.
The shops, restaurants, and entertainment establishments were jam-packed as the soldiers happily enjoyed their day off with their families.
They were even more elated after Blanc announced that there would be a celebration at the City's Plaza.
Food and drinks will be served free of charge to celebrate the army's victory.
Meanwhile, Helena and the battalion commanders were also enjoying the rare day off in their own ways.
Although they wanted to train for the day, Blanc stopped them and told them to focus on recuperation and their hobbies because it would be disadvantageous for them in the long run if they got burnt out by the continuous training.
They have to rest once in a while.
As for Helena, she took Adelaine on a date and they ate out at multiple restaurants and sweet shops.
The sisters haven't been able to bond with each other for a long time so Helena took this time to enjoy the day with her little sister.
Adelaine was also very happy as she toured the streets of the city along with her sister.
At night, Helena didn't go back to her house. Blanc was surprised upon seeing Helena chilling in his bedroom in a revealing outfit.
Blanc and Helena enjoyed the night together as they ate dinner together, had sex, and cuddled.
The two of them rarely had time to bond like this and whenever they do, they enjoy it to the fullest.
After another hot and steamy session, both of them finally fell asleep.
Tonight was particularly cozy for the two of them since they had two more days to enjoy each other's company like this.
This night wasn't like the other nights wherein they had to part ways in the morning.
Blanc and Helena had smiles on their faces as they cuddled each other until they fell asleep.
