บท 39: Army Development Plans
Blanc was currently on the way to the training fields after leaving the smithy.
After a few moments of walking, he arrived.
There were lots of corpses– I mean, trainees who are lying on the ground gasping for air.
This was their first day of training and they just finished their 2 hour light jog.
The results don't look like a light jog though.
"Oh? Blanc!"
Helena waved at Blanc as she saw him approach.
"Helena, am I disturbing your training? Can we have a quick talk?"
Blanc asked as he smiled while waving back.
"Hmm? No, don't worry about it. Of course we can talk!"
Helena said as she pulled Blanc to the side.
"So~ what is it young master Blanc~ Did this lowly Helena do something wrong that deserves punishment~?"
Helena teased in a seductive tone.
"Hey hey captain Helena, wouldn't it be bad for you if your subordinates heard that their almighty captain Helena is reduced to a servant in front of this young master Blanc?"
Blanc chuckled as he teased back
"Agghhh~ Yes~ Please reduce me to a servant in front of everyone young master Blanc~"
Helena doubled down on his words as she moaned lightly near his ear.
"Wha…Mhmmmm! Captain Helena, let's get back to talking about official business shall we?"
Blanc cleared his throat.
He couldn't believe this reckless girl just started moaning like that in broad daylight! Good thing no one heard them.
"Hahahahahaha, yes mayor Blanc. What is it?"
Helena laughed after she saw Blanc's flustered expression.
"It's about the trainees. Do you think they will be ready to fight actual people around three to four months from now?"
Blanc asked.
"The trainees? Why? Well, I think three months is enough to raise their physiques to tier 3 standard combatant and their swordsmanship to tier 3 novice swordsmanship. Although that will only be enough to fight off small fry soldiers, it should be enough to destroy bandits."
Helena replied honestly.
"That's perfect! Be ready, I'm expecting a bandit attack three to four months from now."
Blanc said.
"A bandit attack? How did bandits even locate us?" Helena asked.
"It seems that they tracked the direction where Adelaine was going when she was going home from her business trip."
"After three to four months they will probably find our town."
Blanc explained.
"Ohohhhh?? Those bandits dare to fight? I'm getting fired up!"
Helena said as she cracked her fists.
"Oh by the way, can you and the veteran warriors prepare a safe path for the gatherers to take whenever they will gather the mushrooms?"
"Make some guard outposts inside the forest where a squad of warriors will do rotations on who will guard the pathways for the gatherers."
"Also, select an area inside the forest of echoes that we can use as a training ground for the veterans. As you know, we will be expanding our forces slowly."
"Once we hit a certain number of troops, the kingdoms will surely start to notice our existence. They will probably wipe us out before we can even protect ourselves from their forces."
"As a solution, after three months of training in our normal training grounds, the warriors will move towards the training ground inside the forest."
"This will let the surrounding kingdom's forces think that our numbers are still under their control."
Blanc patiently explained his plans to Helena.
"Ohhhh!! I like that! So the kingdom forces will think that we only have a small number of warriors and that we are no threat to them. But in reality, our forces are just hiding inside the Forest of Echoes!"
Helena exclaimed.
"Correct. So? What do you think? Is this a feasible plan?"
Blanc still needed Helena to confirm if this is feasible.
After all, he hasn't gone deep into the forest himself. Only Helena knows if there are areas where they can implement his plans inside the forest.
"Yes! This is very feasible. I found lots of spacious areas inside the forest with only a couple of beast lairs around. If we clear out those beast lairs, the area would be as good as ours!"
After Helena confirmed that his plan is feasible, Blanc was ecstatic. It was hard to develop under the noses of many kingdoms.
The only chance they got is to develop hidden forces. Blanc was even ready to dig and develop forces underground if push came to shove.
Good thing that they can develop inside the Forest of Echoes so there was no need for digging like a rat.
"Great! I leave this to you Helena. However, please prioritize the matter regarding the bandits first."
"Got it!"
"Thanks! Well then, see you later!"
