While Jaylene Ziel was washing the dishes and cleaning up the kitchen, Joseph Thompson went into the bedroom, changed his clothes and went to the study.

By the time Jaylene had finished with the kitchen and returned to the room, Joseph Thompson was already gone. She picked up her bag and walked out, just as Joseph emerged from the study.

Joseph Thompson looked at Jaylene Ziel, radiating liveliness, and felt an ache in his heart. This morning's breakfast hadn't been as harmonious and satisfying as he had hoped; the salty soya milk had spoiled everything.

Glancing at the leftover breakfast on the dining table, he knew he had tried his best but still hadn't managed to leave a good impression on her. He guessed she would hold a grudge against him for a long time from now.

These things were inevitable. His life was destined to carry regrets, and his affection was bound to fail someone. That someone couldn't be Aurora Richardson, who had saved his life.
