A red light escaped from the ground behind us as Goku and Vegeta gave their Potara earrings back to Gowasu. This was Zamasu's soul, back to wreak its revenge.
How was a dead person capable of this, without a body? It all came down to the Trunks' timeline Zamasu's Super Dragon Ball wish. An undying, immortal body.
The Super Dragon didn't care much for the events of the rest of the universe. All Shenrons were intrinsically very lazy dragons, so they granted the exact contents of whatever wish they were given. In this case, the Super Dragon had simply cut Zamasu's connection to otherworld completely, then given him a powerful regeneration factor. Theoretically, with that regeneration factor, it would be impossible to destroy Zamasu's body completely, so his soul would always go back to it by default. Zamasu could still technically die, but his soul wouldn't really care when that happened. Since it didn't have anywhere to go, it'd just linger in place for the scant microseconds that Zamasu was technically dead for.
But then, the two Zamasus had merged, damaging the regeneration factor that the Super Shenron had gifted his body, allowing Trunks's divine aspect to completely destroy it. Now that there was no body, where would the soul go? Would it go along with the small connection to otherworld that Goku Black's half had? Partially.
With a far smaller connection to otherworld than it should have had, Zamasu's new soul had been partially torn apart upon death. About 1% or so of it had, in fact, gone straight to otherworld, clogging the lines with his uselessly evil energy, destabilizing the other 99% in the process. Now, literally the only thing keeping his soul from shattering into trillions of pieces was his desire to see his 'divine justice' done.
And that was why you didn't do stupid things with a dragon's power.
As the light of Zamasu's soul hit the atmosphere, it began changing forms, turning into smoke. Zamasu had the soul of a god, despite his idiocy. It was more concentrated, powerful, than a normal mortal's soul by a terrifying amount, normally, but now his idiocy had warped it beyond recognition. In otherworld, a person's soul usually looked like a white cloud-thing, unless they had enough willpower to keep some of their features intact. But Zamasu's soul was inky black and formless, because he didn't have the mental facilities left to remember anything other than his 'divine mission.'
"That's-" Gowasu started to say, but I decided to finish it for him.
"Zamasu, yeah. Or at least ninety percent or so of his soul. He's gone even crazier, though. That stupid immortality wish kept most of his soul from dying the right way. It must have broken his mind, more-or-less, too. He's just gonna keep expanding, destroying everything until he's stopped, huh?" I observed nonchalantly, making everyone turn to stare at me in disbelief.
"WHO ARE YOU?!!" Vegeta shouted in my face once more, confused enough for all of them. I could tell that everyone agreed wholeheartedly with him, but I still didn't bother to answer. Instead, I just shrugged.
"It doesn't matter, Vegeta. If she's right, then we need to stop him. HAA!" Goku tried to go Super Saiyan Blue, but his energy fizzled out after only a moment in the form.
"Focus, Kakarot!" Vegeta berated Goku before attempting his own Super Saiyan Blue transformation. His lasted for a beat longer than Goku's had before also fizzling out.
"It's from launching that Kamehameha earlier! They don't have enough power left to go regular Super Saiyan, let alone Blue!" Universe 7's Supreme Kai observed worriedly.
"Well I'm not done yet! HAAH!" Going Super Saiyan, Trunks flew up into the air towards the black mist, not that it mattered. He was clearly spent, too, from using his Divine Aspect. But nobody here was even thinking of giving up.
"We have to do something, let's go!" Goku and Vegeta followed closely after Trunks.
"Aren't you going to help them?! Judging by that tail, you must be a Saiyan from some timeline or another, too, and a pretty strong one at that!" Universe 7's Supreme Kai asked me as the others left.
Glancing at him, I unfurled my tail from my waist for a moment before retying it. "No, I can't. I'm here on behalf of Chronoa." I explained curtly. It wasn't entirely a lie. Since I'd sort-of usurped her position, everything that I did was in fact on behalf of the Supreme Kai of Time, even though she didn't have the authority to care at the moment.
"Wait, you know the Supreme Kai of Time?" Gowasu exclaimed, shocked.
"Who?" Kai-Shin asked. Nobody bothered answering him. I did picture an old man smacking him on the head with a newspaper and muttering 'you idiot!' in my head, but unfortunately Old Kai wasn't actually here to do it in person.
As I skirted around the truth with the Kais, Mai, and Bulma, Vegeta, Goku and Trunks attempted a combined attack on the black mist that was Zamasu's soul, only to fail as I'd known they would. An instant later, Zamasu's soul began his counterattack.
Red beams began to rain down from the sky indiscriminately, each with the power of a god behind it. I could feel it even attempting to push itself through the time rip that the time machine had made, trying to expand into other timelines as well. Since it'd devoured portions of the power held by Zamasu's time ring, that would normally be a definite possibility as he devoured more, and grew more powerful, but this Zamasu would never get that chance.
Raising my hand, thin threads of my energy began scattering throughout the city. A thread wound itself around the time machine where we all were. Another thread found its way to Goku, then Vegeta, then Trunks. A third thread found its way into the skies above Capsule Corp, where it forcibly shut the lingering rift between timelines, while countless others spread their way across the planet, protecting every single living person on Earth.
