"Nail. I have a request to make of you. A truly burdensome request, but it must be you who fulfills it." Guru told Nail. Guru was too old to walk by now. He was incapable of leaving his throne anymore, and his only view was that of the scenery in front of his humble home. But that didn't mean that he couldn't sense what was going on elsewhere.
From his perch atop the mountain that he called home, Guru could sense everything going on throughout the planet.
He could sense his children, in the last village left. As it turns out, the few surviving warriors from other villages had already congregated there, and they were already on their way to his home, desperate to protect him and Dende.
Unfortunately, though, the remaining Namekian warriors were not the only ones rushing to see Guru. A terrible power, Frieza's power, was also on its way to him. He would arrive at Guru's home shortly before the warriors would, and he would likely kill them all in order to get what he wanted: The key to unlocking the Dragon Balls' power. Guru could never allow Frieza to use his Dragon Balls, so the warriors... Guru's children... would all inevitably be sacrificed for nothing.
When Guru had learned of this, his first instinct had been to go to the deity... Hanna and her subordinates, who he knew were keeping extensive track of everything that was currently happening on the planet, but that idea had almost immediately been scrapped.
Guru had already spoken to Chelsea multiple times. He believed that he had a good track of the characters and motivations behind Hanna's subordinates' moves. In essence, the girls below Hanna did everything for her. They'd fight, die, come back to life, and die a thousand more times if Hanna were to tell them to do so, but they didn't seem to hold much care for anything else. They'd do anything without reservation if it helped Hanna's plan, but that didn't extend much past it.
Currently, Hanna herself was embroiled in a battle with some fairly strong opponents. Her physical body's power was noticeably waning, Guru would even go so far as to say that she was dying. Whether Frieza killed Guru and a few of his warriors or not, her personal situation wasn't going to change.
But Guru knew that Chelsea had promised him a few things, and he knew that she'd keep those promises, since not doing so would reflect poorly on her Mistress. She'd promised him that his children would end up alive, so he knew that, in the end, she'd use some form of Dragon Balls to wish his children all back to life, and she'd promised him that Hanna's plan involved Frieza's evil being expunged from the galaxy.
In other words, Guru's job here wasn't to stop Frieza or get his children killed by Frieza, but to stall Frieza until Hanna is ready to kill him.
"Anything. You need only ask, Grand Elder." Nail answered Guru without any hesitation in his voice.
"You are a good child, Nail. A great evil is coming to this place. When it gets here, it will meet with your brothers, who are also on their way to us. None of them, including you, stand a chance of defeating this evil." Guru told Nail.
"I can sense it too... If I must die so that you may live, then I will fulfill that duty without any reservations." Nail immediately realized what Guru needed him to do.
But Guru sighed at his answer. He didn't want that. "No, that is not what I ask. I simply wish for you to meet this evil being before it comes into contact with us or your brothers, Nail. Stall him for as long as you can, to give the earthlings time to prepare... to kill him."
Nail frowned. He could sense the evil being's power. It was a terrifying monster. Remembering those earthlings powers... he'd been underwhelmed at the time. Nail by himself would likely have been capable of defeating every single one of them in a one vs many fight.
"Do not worry, my son. You will not die to this monster, and the Earthlings will destroy it. Fate has already been written. Please, just do as I ask." Guru told Nail. Stressing the words 'will not die' and 'will destroy' weren't for Nail's benefit, but rather the Core girls' who he knew were likely listening in. It was an implied plea, or perhaps threat, for their help.
'Geez. Greedy old bag.' Guru wasn't entirely sure if he'd imagined those words or heard them, but they still gave him comfort. If it kept his children safe, then Guru had no problems being a 'greedy old bag.'
"Guru, isn't that dangerous, though!? What if you're wrong and Nail dies!?" Dende couldn't help but ask. But Nail placed his hand on the younger Namekian's head, shaking his own.
"Dende. If I do nothing, then the terrible evil coming this way will slaughter our brothers, and then likely you and Guru as well. If I die, but everyone else currently in the path of this evil survives, then I will die satisfied." Nail told his younger brother, assuaging his fears a bit. Nail understood that this needed to be done, otherwise Guru would never have asked.
"Nail, I promise, I have seen the future. You will not die. Currently, the earthlings are preparing to steal the Dragon Balls from under that evil one's nose. I do not know what they plan on wishing for, or even if they plan on making a wish at all, but they will likely finish while you are stalling the evil one. Once you cannot stall any longer, make sure that you tell him that the earthlings have already finished preparing to kill him." Guru explained.
Nail nodded. He still didn't believe that the Earthlings were going to be capable of killing that evil, but he trusted Guru, so he'd follow his instructions to the letter.
This chapter is basically about Guru bargaining with the Core Girls for Nail's life. The fact is, Guru's the only person other than the gods who knows Hanna's true identity. That's the only leverage he has, but it's actually pretty terrifying from Hanna's perspective, and he knows that, at least to some extent.
I think he's still overestimating her character and misjudging her fear of being treated like a monster by the other Z-Fighters, but his relationship with Hanna and the Girls is a pretty interesting one.
