บท 9: Chapter 9: The Bath Towel on the Body Has Unfolded!_1

Suzanne Trent heard the sound of footsteps outside the door, due to the wall between, she could not hear the footsteps that clearly. Thinking it was Lily carrying the clothes, she hurriedly swooshed the door open, and was suddenly confronted by the man standing in front of the door.

Her expression froze, before she even had the chance to cry out, she unconsciously took a step backward in surprise, but retreated too quickly and slipped, and the whole person was falling backward.

Mason King instinctively stepped forward to catch her, but overestimated his strength due to his unhealed severe injury. As he just reached around her waist, Suzanne instinctively pushed him away, he staggered backwards, towards the bathroom door. And Suzanne, due to momentum and unsteady footing, fell forward --

Remembering that he was injured, Suzanne wanted desperately to avoid him but ended up crashing squarely into his chest, knocking the man who had barely woken up after five days of unconsciousness, straight to the ground.

The whole scene happened so suddenly!

So sudden that Mason King was unable to steady her and so they fell.

The moment he fell back, the woman, clad only in a bath towel, struck him squarely. Her head hit hard against his chest, her damp hair spreading across his neck.

The intense pain was almost unbearable, even more so with the weight of Suzanne bearing hard on top of him. For a moment, Mason was paralyzed and unable to react. His hand, an instinctual grip as she fell, could distinctly sense the loosening of her bath towel. In other words, she was practically naked when she fell...

The feel of her skin under his palm was smooth and warm from the shower.

And there was the brief flash of an exquisite cream-white figure when the towel slipped.

As he lay on his back, facing the dazzling light, Mason was left with no choice but to close his eyes for a moment in the midst of his torment.

Suzanne hurriedly got up from him, hastily adjusting her bath towel and then hastily pulled on a nightgown, returning to her senses, she looked at the pallid man who lay on the ground. He had his eyes closed, so she swallowed the curse that sat on her lips.

"Are you alright?" Suzanne hustled to help him up.

With Suzanne's assistance, Mason stood up. It was clear, though, that the fall was no light matter. After catching his breath, he retorted hoarsely, " Your daughter is asleep on the couch, I thought I'd help by bringing you some clothes. But it seems as though, in return, you're trying to take my life."

With effort, Suzanne led him to the bed and sat him down. "How was I supposed to know that it was you? When I suddenly saw a man standing at my door, wouldn't it have been courteous of me to react by doing something other than screaming?"

Mason glanced at her, "If I had some wicked scheme, would it help for you to scream?"

Suzanne couldn't be bothered to argue with the severely injured Mason, especially seeing the pathetic figure he cut now; it was clear he was debilitated.

After making him lie back down on the bed, she noticed his unusually pale complexion. She leaned in and asked, "Are you sure you're okay? Should I get the old doctor from downstairs to check you out?"

"No need," Mason said.

Suzanne was still worried that his wound might be bleeding from the fall, so she attempted to check the wound herself. However, just as her hand touched his clothes, Mason placed his hand on hers, on a low voice he said, "There's no need to check. They're all surface injuries. Regardless, we only will know if they're really okay once they've healed."

Suzanne glanced at Mason's hand, promptly removed her own. He stayed immobile, his eyes closed. It seemed as though he was nearly asleep.

She wasn't surprised since a person who's lost a lot of blood would naturally feel fatigued. Especially after having been impacted by Suzanne's considerable weight.

There's nothing more Suzanne could say, she softly whispered, "Then you rest well," and regardless of whether he could hear her or not, she stepped out of the bedroom.

Outside, Suzanne noticed that Lily, sure enough, had fallen sound asleep on the sofa, covered with a thin blanket.

The lingering suspicion that she harbored towards the man had dissipated in this instant.

Regardless of the kind of person he was before the incident, he showed gentleness and patience towards a child. He couldn't possibly be a bad person.

Thoughts of allowing him to stay crossed her mind, given his grave injuries and lack of identification, he really had nowhere else to go.

About to pick Lily up to take her back to her room to sleep, Suzanne suddenly looked at her nightgown and vividly recalled the moment when she fell against the man in front of the bathroom door...

The bath towel had slipped off her at that time, but he kept his eyes closed when she got up... He shouldn't have... shouldn't have seen anything...

บท 10: Chapter 10: As If Breaking Into a Corner of the Mortal World_1

The next day, Suzanne Trent got up early.

Last night, before going to sleep, she actually felt a bit guilty. The man hadn't died from falling off the cliff, but what if she had hurt him even more by hitting him?

She quietly pushed open the door of the master bedroom. The room was extremely quiet, and the man, probably named Daniel Turner, was either still asleep or unconscious. She tiptoed over to him and touched his forehead; it was still a bit hot, probably due to his wounds being irritated by his movements over the past two days. But his breathing was even and steady, without any more blood seeping from his bandages.

It shouldn't be too serious.

Suzanne went downstairs to a 24-hour pharmacy and bought some wound medicine and anti-inflammatory drugs. She gently lifted the bandages on his body, carefully cleaned the wounds, and applied the medicine.

After all this, the alarm clock in Lily's room went off, and she quickly slipped out of the master bedroom as if nothing had happened.

The man on the bed behind her slowly opened his eyes as the bedroom door opened and closed.

Outside the bedroom, Suzanne could be heard urging Lily to get up and brush her teeth. Lily grumbled while brushing her teeth, "Mommy, my kindergarten teacher said we should have love in our hearts, so you absolutely can't secretly throw Uncle out while I'm at kindergarten!"

Suzanne's displeased voice came through, "Hurry up and brush your teeth, come eat breakfast, or I'll throw you out first if you keep talking!"

It was a simple morning, both lovely and lively.

Mason King, who had grown accustomed to cold mornings abroad over the years, suddenly felt as if he had entered a corner of the mortal world, infused with an inexplicable sense of tranquility.

After Lily left for kindergarten on the school bus, Suzanne hurried to sort out her things.

There were too many things to move from the master bedroom to the children's room, and she hadn't been able to finish last night.

She needed a few of her frequently worn clothes, which were still in the master bedroom wardrobe. Glancing at the time, it was already 8:30. She reheated the porridge she had bought that morning and went to the master bedroom.

She thought he was still asleep, but didn't expect him to be already sitting up.

"Ahem," Suzanne cleared her throat, "I'm coming in to get a few clothes I often wear. I didn't have time to make breakfast this morning, so I bought some porridge downstairs. I just reheated it, do you want to eat?"

Mason looked at the woman who had stuck her head in the bedroom door and said, "Thank you."

Suzanne quickly brought the porridge over and placed it beside the bed, "Well, you eat by yourself. For now, I really don't dare to let you eat other things with oil and salt, after all, your wound is quite severe. I can only let you eat this for the next few days."

"It's already much better," Mason looked at her again, "You saved my life, took care of me these days, and even got up early to help me change the medicine. I'm very grateful."

The man's eyes were deep and captivating.

Suzanne paused, her gaze quickly moving away from him and towards the wardrobe, blinking twice, "It's enough that you remember the hundred-fold compensation you promised. No need to thank me."

She quickly grabbed her clothes and left.

"Oh, I almost forgot." The door suddenly opened again, and Suzanne stuck her head back in, "There's an old phone in the white drawer next to the bed. I threw it in there when I got a new one last year. The charger is also inside. I'm not sure if the phone still works, but you can try. If it works, I'll give you a spare SIM card so you can call me if you need anything while I'm not home. If I'm especially busy, I can ask the clinic's grandpa to come and take care of you."

Mason stood up slowly, despite every movement causing him severe pain. He walked over to the drawer, took out the phone.

Suzanne watched his back and murmured to herself, "If he had asked for her help to get the phone, she wouldn't have minded helping, but did he not feel the pain of his wounds?"

It seemed that he did not like to ask for help from others. Even when he said he wanted to stay here, he mentioned the method of compensation, including eating as well. He was just a tenant or a transaction partner while recovering, without any hint of pleading.

Although he looked like a very handsome, gentlemanly, and polite man, his pride was evident in every little detail, just like Lily's stubbornness.
