Chapter 256: Komachi - Onii-chan Meets a Beautiful Sister Again
While the Hikigaya siblings were having their meal, Mafuyu had also done some preliminary tidying up in her room.
Unfortunately, being not very skilled in household chores, it wasn't exceptionally neat, but at least things were in their proper places.
"Phew, finally done."
Wiping the sweat off her forehead, Mafuyu let out a sigh of relief.
"Thanks to Hikigaya-kun. Without him, I probably wouldn't have finished tidying up by now."
"But judging by his appearance, he seems to be a student. I wonder if he attends the school where I'm going to work."
Yes, Mafuyu moved to this apartment due to work, and she happened to be a teacher.
"It's already this time; it's time for dinner." Glancing at the clock on the wall, Mafuyu couldn't help but rub her stomach.
However, being bad at cooking, making her own meal was out of the question.
"Whatever, I'll just eat out. I can also buy the gift for my neighbors when I visit the supermarket."
With a decision made, she changed into her shoes at the entrance and headed out for the supermarket.
As for Hachiman, after the siblings finished lunch and cleaned up the table and dishes, Komachi sat on the sofa with Kamakura, watching TV. Hachiman, on the other hand, returned to his room to start writing.
Having not written for several days, a regular author might be under pressure, but Hachiman had no such concerns.
With his current writing speed, as long as he puts a bit of effort into it, typing several tens of thousands of words in a day is no challenge. In a single day, he could match or surpass the word count of others in ten days or half a month.
By not even four in the afternoon, Hachiman had already written over twenty thousand words of manuscript.
Just as he was about to take a break, Komachi's voice came from outside his door.
"Onii-chan, there's no more ingredients in the fridge. Let's go to the supermarket together."
Hearing this, Hachiman recalled that during lunch, they had used up most of the ingredients. It was indeed time to replenish them.
Thinking of this, he stood up, opened his room door, and nodded towards Komachi at the doorway.
"Sure, let's go buy some groceries together."
"Okay."
.....
.....
As the siblings entered the supermarket, Hachiman grabbed a shopping basket and turned to Komachi, asking, "Komachi, what would you like for dinner?"
"Um... Onii-chan, the curry you made for lunch was so delicious; I want it again." Komachi couldn't help but think about the mouthwatering curry from lunch, licking her lips in anticipation.
"You can't always have meat; you need some vegetables too," Hachiman teased, playfully tapping her forehead.
"I'll prepare Sunomono and Spinach Ohitashi for you tonight."
"Alright... fine."
Upon hearing that curry wouldn't be on the dinner menu, Komachi pouted slightly, but she didn't push the matter further.
While the siblings strolled through the supermarket, they picked out ingredients and also bought some household items needed at home—toothpaste, toothbrushes, tissues, and even some beverages.
By the time they finished shopping and returned home, it was almost five o'clock. After placing the groceries and drinks in the fridge, Hachiman began preparing dinner.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
"Ding-dong, ding-dong."
Hearing the doorbell, Hachiman, who was in the kitchen, raised an eyebrow and called out to Komachi in the living room.
"Komachi, could you go answer the door?"
"Sure thing, Onii-chan."
Komachi, who was watching TV on the sofa, responded and got up to check the door.
Upon opening it, she found a person she didn't recognize standing outside—the stranger had cherry blossom-colored long hair, straight bangs, twisted sideburns, and a slender figure with piercing azure eyes.
It was Mafuyu Kirisu, the woman who had just moved in this morning.
"Who are you looking for, miss?" Komachi asked, a bit puzzled.
Seeing someone at the door, Mafuyu bowed slightly. "Hello, I'm Mafuyu Kirisu. I just moved in today, and it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Oh, you're the new neighbor! Please come in," Komachi warmly invited her as soon as she heard Mafuyu was a new neighbor.
As they entered the living room, Hachiman, who was cooking in the kitchen, popped his head out.
"Komachi, who's here?"
Upon seeing Mafuyu, he greeted her with a smile. "Oh, Miss Kirisu, welcome."
"Ah, Hikigaya-kun, good afternoon," Mafuyu greeted in return.
Seeing that the two knew each other, Komachi found it a bit strange. Could it be that Onii-chan had again met a beautiful sister without her knowledge?
Wait, why did I say "again"?
After a moment of thought, Komachi decided to voice her curiosity.
"Onii-chan, do you two know each other?"
"Yeah, when I came back at noon, I happened to meet Miss Kirisu just as she was moving in, so I helped her carry her luggage upstairs," Hachiman explained with a smile.
"Yes, thanks to Hikigaya-kun's help today, I wouldn't have easily carried that large bag of luggage upstairs," Mafuyu nodded.
"Oh, I see now."
After hearing their explanations, Komachi understood the situation.
"But, Onii-chan, you really have a gentleman's side."
This comment left Hachiman quite perplexed.
"In your mind, what kind of image do you have of your brother?"
"Hehe, no matter what, Onii-chan is the most outstanding in Komachi's heart." Tapping her head, Komachi looked as if she was trying to get away with something.
"By the way, this line scores very high in Komachi's ratings."
Seeing her like this, Hachiman shook his head with an amused smile, ignoring her, and continued with his cooking.
Meanwhile, Mafuyu Kirisu, observing the interaction between the siblings, had a faint envy in her eyes.
Though she also had a younger sister, she was too clingy, which made Mafuyu somewhat uncomfortable.
However, she remembered the purpose of her visit and lifted the gift box in her hand.
"Please take care of me in the future, Hikigaya-kun. This is a little gift."
"Thank you, Miss Kirisu."
Seeing the sweets in her hands, Hachiman smiled and gestured for Komachi to accept it.
After all, it was a sincere gesture, and declining might be awkward.
"By the way, Miss Kirisu, you haven't had dinner yet. It's perfect timing; stay and have dinner with us," Hachiman invited with a smile, looking at Komachi who accepted the gift.
Mafuyu quickly waved her hands, "No, no, it's too much trouble."
"There's no trouble at all. My parents are away on a business trip, and it's just Komachi and me at home. Having more people for dinner makes it livelier. Besides, Miss Kirisu just moved in; it must be inconvenient to cook. Stay and join us; it's just adding an extra pair of chopsticks," Hachiman continued to insist.
Even Komachi joined in, "Yes, Kirisu-neechan, please stay for dinner. Let me tell you, Onii-chan's cooking is fantastic; I'm sure you'll love it."
"Well..."
Hesitating, Mafuyu weighed the cold bento in her hand against the warm home-cooked meal. After some contemplation, she couldn't resist the temptation and agreed.
"Then, I'll take you up on that offer."

A/N:
Well, 'We Never Learn' is the first harem anime I've watched. I never realized there was a harem genre before; I was frustrated watching side characters be cooler than the main character and more popular with the girls. I'm glad I gave the harem genre a chance because I had overlooked it before.
And Kirisu Mafuyu is my favorite waifu in "We Never Learn," alongside Ogata, and I'm content with the manga ending, reminiscent of "Amagami SS" and "Seiren."
