บท 7: Chapter 7 : Making Emeth return to crystal
Rushing towards the Ruin Guard, Mordred swings her greatsword at it, drawing its attention. The damage, however, is minor as it merely chips away some of the machine's heavy plating.
Unconcerned, her sword seems to multiply as she performs a flurry of strikes, but the result is unchanged.
As she dodges an attack, a purple streak crackling with power flies right above her head, hitting the glowing mechanical core.
Taking the opportunity of having her opponent staggered, Mordred lands an heavy blow, cracking the armor on one of its arms.
Reactivating, the automaton strikes, sending its opponent flying through one of the columns that were still standing.
Silence reigns in the arena before being broken by a slightly worried voice.
"Art thou fine?"
The answer to that question comes in the form of a marble chapiter impacting the Ruin Guard. As the dust settles, Mordred's figure appears. Undamaged but pissed, she bursts at the artificial being with ferocity.
"I'll kill that bastard first, and then I'll be fine!"
Now attacking more wildly than ever, Mordred lands blow after blow, causing bits and pieces of the machine's armor plating to fly away.
'How hard is he? At this rate it'll take fucking forever to break through his armor.'
As she thinks that, the Ruin Guard starts spinning, moving its arms at a deadly speed.
Dodging the fast strike, she prepares to rush back in the fray as she sees another projectile flying towards her foe's core.
At the same time, on the opposite side of the arrow, a certain raven gets ready to strike the weak point targeted by his master.
The shot hits true. In a quick motion, the bird claws at the reactor with lightning-coated talons.
The effect is immediate, as the Ruin Guard falls to the ground, not vanquished but weakened for a time.
"Let us take this opportunity fate has given us to inflict retribution upon this wretched entity."
At this call, the two adventurers and their avian companion deal a great amount of damage to the machine. Arrows fly in flashes of purple lightning, claws wear down the thick armor and sword strikes hail down with great strength.
The fight, however, is not over yet and as the core regains its glow, the machine stands back up.
Turning its back to them and planting its arms firmly in the ground. It then proceeds to shoot six missiles at the archer in the back.
Seeing that, the girl in purple runs to take cover. Even during her dash, her hands never stop, shooting arrow after arrow and managing to take down a few of the missiles.
Yet, it wasn't enough. One of the rockets slips past the barrage of arrows and hits her, sending her waltzing through the air.
"Hey! You good up there? Oz, take a look and report."
Not waiting for a response, she uses her mana burst to ram into the Ruin Guard, lest it shoots more missiles.
"Sir knight, the situation isn't good! She'll survive but needs treatment, and quick. I myself won't be able to stay manifested much longer. I'll entrust her to you. Please save Mein Fraulein!"
As he pleads to Mordred, Ozvaldo Von Hrafnavins dissapears into motes of light.
"Shit! I have to finish this quick."
Now fighting with only little regard to her magic consumption, damage appears faster and faster on the Automaton.
But it is still too slow.
If one were to look under her helmet, they'd see a face full of hesitation and if this one were to know her, surprise wouldn't even begin to describe their feelings. She, after all, is known to never hesitate, sometimes even taking action before thinking. If so, then why would she have this expression?
'That won't do, I need to end this now. Do I really have to do it?'
Slipping up due to her hesitation, she is sent blitzing through the sky for the second time today.
'There should be no one around, so it should be okay, right?'
Rushing back in the battle, she fights like a raging beast, as if her body was unaffected by her inner turmoil.
'And if she dies here, it would be inconveniant, the guild would probably lose its trust in me, I'd lose my only backer.'
Parrying a blow, she strikes back with more strength than ever.
'And even if I just met her, I just don't want her to die.'
Dodging some missiles, she swings again, breaking through the arm plating of the Ruin Guard.
'Yeah, I don't need a particular reason, I just want to save her and it's the best way. I'll just do it fast, so fast no one will ever know.'
Having taken her decision, Mordred stills in front of the mechanic beast, waiting for it to approach.
When the distance between them is but a mere meter and a half and as the remaining metallic fist of the automaton approaches her, she acts.
Crimson lightning covers her as she swings her sword with greater power than she has ever shown since arriving in this land.
As the Ruin Guard starts falling, severed in half, the lightning starts to fade away. Her helmet covering her blonde hair once again.
Grabbing the core as a subjugation proof, she then rushes towards the wounded archer, crudely bandaging her wound before taking her and running towards the city.

I guess I'm back. Pardon my delay, I was a little overworked with College. Not to mention I rewrote this chapter like five times and I'm still not satisfied with it.
But let's stop the complaining here.
I'll try to upload regularly once again, but I can't guarantee shit.
Do you think I should go down the romance road between Fischl and Mordred and why? I won't just base my decision on your opinion, but it'll be useful to see what y'all think.
Anyways, I'll see you next time and wish me luck for my Math Midterm Exams of tomorrow (I hate series expansion with passion, don't know why)
