As soon as Midas saw what they were doing and heard what they were saying, he knew he was being underestimated and tested and if he responded badly there, he would lose all the momentum he had built up so far as a genius in battle and tactics.

His job was simple. Reaffirm his status in their hearts and shake their resolve. Even if the message did not get passed on somehow to the others, just their actions after returning would be indicative of the fact that Midas had the ability to shake them.
