"I thought the ping-pong paddle subplot was just nonsense, but I didn't expect it to actually happen." Scott Lang's mouth hung open as he watched the scene unfold.
"The tank too, it's real." Tony Stark remarked, "But it wasn't you driving it."
"Darren Cross is clearly unconscious on the lampshade. Why didn't Scott take this opportunity? Will they need the shrinking-into-the-suit method again later?" Steve Rogers questioned.
Soon, everyone would understand why.
"Police! Hands up!" Just as Scott Lang was about to climb the lampshade to check on Darren Cross, Paxton and another police officer with guns rushed over.
Scott Lang turned around, raised his hands, and revealed his face.
"Scott?" Paxton was surprised to see the man in the specialized suit was actually his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend.
"Paxton, you have to listen to me..." Scott Lang started to walk towards Paxton, but before he could finish speaking, he was zapped by a stun gun and fell to the ground twitching.
During the events of Civil War, this suit could withstand artillery fire, but now it couldn't handle a small stun gun.
Ridiculous.
As this scene unfolded, everyone's gaze turned towards Thor.
"Why are you all looking at me?" Thor said, annoyed, "It's not me getting shocked!"
"But it reminded me of you," Tony Stark said, "I remember the first time you came to Earth, a girl shocked you with a stun gun."
"Now it's Scott getting shocked!" Thor exclaimed incredulously, "You can't see the shocking scene right in front of you but can only remember the one from before? Are you all crazy?"
"Scott is just a human, it's normal for him to be afraid of electricity. But you, you're the God of Thunder," Stephen Strange explained.
"Wow, what an amazing talent," Loki chimed in, getting interested, "How did Thor collapse from a stun gun? In what position did he fall? Did he foam at the mouth? Roll his eyes back? Urinate..."
"Loki!" Thor wanted to strangle Loki, "None of that! None of it happened!"
In the video, Paxton and his partner led Scott Lang to the police car. Halfway there, Scott woke up and hurriedly told Paxton, "Paxton, turn around, take me back."
"I was just about to take you back," Paxton said as he drove, "Back to the prison."
Scott Lang continued, "There's something in the backyard that must be destroyed, it's in the bug zapper, it..."
Screech!
Scott Lang's words were cut off as Paxton slammed on the brakes. Annoyed, he turned to Scott and said, "You need to be quiet now! Snap out of it!"
"Attention all units, there's a hostage situation at 840 Winter Street." At that moment, a new police alert blared inside the car.
"Casey!" Scott Lang and Paxton exclaimed simultaneously. In the next moment, the police car sped away like an arrow leaving a bowstring.
"Stay put and don't move." After the police car came to a stop, Paxton turned to Scott Lang and quickly got out of the car.
"Paxton, let me help!" Scott Lang yelled from inside the police car, but Paxton completely ignored him.
Even if Paxton didn't want him to get involved, Scott Lang wouldn't just give up like that. After all, it was about his daughter.
Fortunately, his helmet was nearby. He leaned down, stuck his head into the helmet, and instantly shrank out of sight. All that remained in the car were a pair of handcuffs.
"Are you a monster?" Casey Lang sat on her bed, looking at Darren Cross in the Yellowjacket suit in front of her. Surprisingly, she wasn't scared.
"Do I look like a monster?" Darren Cross asked.
"I want my dad!" Casey Lang shouted.
"I want your dad too," Darren Cross said as he lifted Casey Lang up in his arms.
"Why not find an opponent your own size?" Just then, Scott Lang arrived, threw a small disc at Darren Cross, shrinking him. He then shrunk himself to the same size.
The two landed next to a toy truck model and began an epic battle.
This battle was truly earth-shattering, with toy cars being overturned and even the train being used as a weapon. It was a fierce and intense confrontation.
"Stay still! San Francisco police!" After a brief battle, Paxton walked in and aimed his gun at Darren Cross from behind.
Snap!
Darren Cross raised one of his back tendrils and directly knocked the gun out of Paxton's hand.
Then, he turned around, looking at Paxton, with all his tendrils pointed at him.
At that moment, Scott Lang jumped onto Darren Cross's back, trying to enter his suit. However, the suit seemed impenetrable, and he couldn't find an opportunity.
"It's made of titanium, you idiot!" Darren Cross reached back and grabbed Scott Lang, holding him in his hand. He clasped his hands together, seemingly trying to crush Scott Lang.
Suddenly, Scott Lang enlarged himself, slipped out from between Darren Cross's palms, and engaged in combat once again.
Paxton held Casey Lang and was about to leave, but Darren Cross flung Scott Lang away, blocking Paxton's path.
"Sorry, sweetheart." Two tendrils emerged from Darren Cross's back, "You have to pay for your father's mistakes."
"Hide behind me, okay?" Paxton put Casey Lang down and shielded her behind him.
"I need to shrink down to a molecular level to get in." Scott Lang stood on the ground, looking up at Darren Cross's suit.
"Dad! Help!" Casey Lang's cry for help echoed, and without hesitation, Scott Lang leaped high into the air and charged at Darren Cross.
"I love you, Casey." In mid-air, Scott Lang twisted his waist and pressed a button. Suddenly, he started growing larger.
He leaped out of the void, appearing in front of Casey Lang and Paxton.
With a press of the button, the video came to an end.
"Even though he's a villain, this Darren Cross actually targeted a child. That's crossing a line, isn't it?" Clint Barton couldn't help but comment.
"Even among villains, he's the worst kind." Natasha Romanoff remarked.
"He's out of chances now." Nick Fury stated bluntly, "He'll spend the rest of his life in prison."
Nick Fury's casual words sealed Darren Cross's fate. He might have been a prominent figure in the business world, but when Nick Fury wanted to deal with him, he could and would.
Evidence? It wasn't needed at all. Or rather, as Nick Fury wasn't a cop, he wouldn't be bound by such restrictions.
"Although the story segment isn't complete yet, we can probably piece together Scott becoming Ant-Man. Hank Pym intentionally let Scott Lang steal the Ant-Man suit to deal with Darren Cross." Steve Rogers said, "But why choose Scott? Why not just wear the suit himself? After all, he was Ant-Man before, so he must be more skilled with the suit than Scott, right?"
"Or he could have had his daughter step in." Stephen Strange suggested, "Wasp seems just as capable as Ant-Man."
"These questions, only Hank Pym himself can answer." Steve Rogers concluded.
[The third question begins. Please be prepared.]
[Where did the initial five members of the Guardians of the Galaxy first gather?]
[A. Bar]
[B. Prison]
[C. Hospital]
[D. School]
[Answer correctly for a reward of fire-based superpower. Answer incorrectly, and one year of lifespan will be deducted.]
"Five members?" Steve Rogers couldn't help but say, "At Tony's funeral, Quill was there with five others. I thought the Guardians of the Galaxy had six members."
"There might have been one who wasn't there," Clint Barton suggested, "Or perhaps someone who joined later."
"Wow, this is exciting! I'm leading a five-person team in the future." Peter Quill seemed enthusiastic, "I knew I was a born leader."
"First of all, it's a five-person team, which is far from being a 'leader,'" Tony Stark ruthlessly countered, "And secondly, what makes you think you're the leader of that team of five? There's no evidence of that at all, is there?"
"What more evidence do you need? I am the best evidence!" Peter Quill assumed a naturally self-assured look, "Look at me, valiant and fearless, incredibly talented and intelligent. I possess all the qualities required of a leader."
"Let's just focus on the question." Tony Stark looked at him with disinterest, tired of the self-congratulatory attitude.
"Can I ask who those teammates of mine at your funeral were?" Peter Quill inquired of Tony Stark.
"Right here." Tony Stark immediately played the video for Peter Quill.
"No way, one with horns on his head, one with a red skin condition, and another with a blue skin condition? What a motley crew! There are even animals and plants!" Seeing the people around him, Peter Quill couldn't help but comment.
"And you're supposed to lead them? Look at your face full of disdain!" Tony Stark retorted, "So, do you know any of them?"
"I don't know any of them." Peter Quill shook his head, "But I'm sure they must have heard of my 'Star-Lord' reputation."
"Star-Lord?" Natasha Romanoff didn't express an opinion about this alias, "So, what exactly do you do?"
"A great thief." Peter Quill's mouth curled up, quite pleased with himself, "A legendary thief with a renowned reputation."
"So, what kind of legends do you have?" Natasha Romanoff inquired.
"Um..." Peter Quill hesitated, "You'll find out when you need to know."
"So, a legendary thief with no legendary stories?" Natasha Romanoff understood.
"Let's not worry about these irrelevant details and focus on the question." Peter Quill said, "Among the options, school is the least likely. I don't know how I would ever have any involvement with a school. As for hospitals, considering my identity as a thief, I'm unlikely to be found in a hospital. I don't drink either, so the bar is out. That leaves us with prison."
"Aren't you a 'legendary' thief? Can you actually get caught and thrown into prison?" Clint Barton chimed in.
"Maybe I got caught on purpose, to steal something from inside the prison." Peter Quill shrugged, "I'll go with B!"
[Correct answer! Reward granted!]
With a whoosh, Peter Quill's body burst into blazing flames, transforming into a fiery figure.
"Yeah!" Peter Quill excitedly exclaimed, "I love this quiz space!"
As his words fell, Peter Quill turned into a ball of flames and soared into the air.
"But I thought it was fire? Why is he flying?" Thor looked up at Peter Quill, who was playfully flying around in the quiz space, "He's not a wind-based superpower. Why can fire fly?"
"He's become an entire being of flames now, without a physical form..." Steve Rogers also looked up at Peter Quill, "In this state, he should be immune to physical harm, right?"
"That's right!" Peter Quill landed, his fiery figure forming a human shape, "When I become flames, physical harm doesn't affect me. In fact, even energy attacks are mostly ineffective against me."
At this moment, he didn't realize the implications of having the ability to become flames, which meant that his planetary father's attempts to kill him were almost impossible.
"A really nice reward." Steve Rogers remarked.
"No need to tell me that." Peter Quill returned to his human form from the fiery state.
Then things got awkward, as they saw a grown man whose clothes had been burned off, leaving a charred lump that was a bit too stimulating for everyone's nerves.
"Oh, shit! Why did you end up across from me!" Thor felt like his eyes were getting scorched and quickly turned his head away.
"This doesn't make sense, does it?" Peter Quill awkwardly wiggled his toes, almost breaking into a dance, "In movies, superpowers that involve fire don't burn their clothes off! It's not like they can't control it!"
"People who split into multiples in movies split their clothes too! So, that's just a movie!" Nick Fury unceremoniously took off his trench coat and tossed it to Peter Quill, "Hurry up and put this on, there are ladies present."
Nick Fury's trench coat really came in handy at this moment. He draped it over himself, buttoned it up, covering himself from top to bottom.
"Thanks, baldy. I'll give it back to you after I wash it." Peter Quill said.
"It's yours." Nick Fury didn't want something that had been worn by a guy who just went through it.
"I absolutely don't want to mess with someone like this!" The quiz space started playing a video, starting with an alien pushing Peter Quill desperately out.
"What do you mean? Can't I mess with him?" Peter Quill said.
"My apologies, Mr. Quill." The alien pushed Peter Quill out and closed the door.
"Hey! We had a deal, man!" Peter Quill stood outside the door and yelled, turning his head to see a green-skinned woman standing there, eating something.
"What's wrong?" Gamora asked.
"This guy stood me up." Peter Quill pointed at the door, "I can't stand people with no morals like this." Then he introduced himself, "Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord."
"Seems like you must have a lot of character." Gamora commented.
"I didn't say that, others often praise me like that." Peter Quill said while tossing a metal sphere back and forth, "I'm low-key, never boastful."
Gamora suddenly made a move, snatching the metal sphere from Peter Quill's hand, then kicked him, turned, and ran.
Peter Quill remained calm, taking out another sphere and throwing it at Gamora. The sphere turned into a rope in the air, landing on Gamora's leg and binding her. She fell to the ground.
Peter Quill hurried after her, but by the time he caught up, Gamora had already undone the rope on her leg and kicked Peter Quill over. The two of them started fighting on the ground.
It was clear that Gamora had better skills, pressing down on Peter Quill the whole time. Even when Peter Quill tried to reach for his gun, Gamora kept him suppressed.
"I didn't intend to do this." Gamora straddled Peter Quill, lifting her hand to stab downwards, but at this moment, a figure lunged forward, pushing Gamora aside.
"Quick, get into the bag, get into the bag!" Rocket Raccoon stomped on Gamora and said to Groot.
Groot held a bag in his hands, with branches growing out of his body, extending toward Gamora.
"No, not her! The guy!" Rocket Raccoon frustratedly shouted, "Can't even tell men from women!"
While Gamora and Rocket Raccoon were entangled with Groot, Peter Quill quickly seized the opportunity and picked up the metal sphere that had fallen to the ground, then ran.
Gamora shouted, breaking free from the branches that bound her and tossing Rocket Raccoon off her head. She extended her hand, conjuring a small knife, and shot it at Peter Quill as he ran.
Ping!
The small knife accurately hit the metal sphere in Peter Quill's hand. He lost his grip, and the metal sphere fell to the ground, rolling under the bridge.
Gamora pulled out a long sword, first striking Groot with it, then leaped down from the bridge, grabbed the metal sphere, and ran.
Peter Quill wasn't about to let his belongings be taken like that. Seizing the opportunity, he also jumped off the bridge, tackling Gamora to the ground just in time.
But in the blink of an eye, the situation reversed again, and Gamora was once again straddling him.
"You fool, you should learn to be smarter." Gamora said, her knee pressing against Peter Quill's neck.
"The problem is, I don't like to study." Peter Quill had secretly attached a jet device to Gamora's waist. He snatched the metal sphere from Gamora's hand and pressed a button. With a swoosh, Gamora was sent flying.
Peter Quill thought he had won and began tossing the metal sphere again. However, Groot was right behind him. He used the bag to capture Peter Quill, hoisting him over his shoulder and carrying him away.
"Don't laugh, big idiot, or how will you look knowledgeable?" Rocket Raccoon was now feeling smug, walking ahead with a victorious stride and saying to Groot.
But his expression quickly changed, as he saw Gamora approaching with a sword.
Gamora walked over with a murderous aura, pushing Rocket Raccoon aside and then wielding her sword with both hands, slashing at Groot.
This adorable baby Groot had his arms cut off, she was really ruthless.
Swoosh!
Finally, a sword strike came at Groot's abdomen. Gamora bent over, opening the bag that held Peter Quill.
Little did she know that Peter Quill was already waiting for her. As Gamora opened the bag, she was met with the barrel of Peter Quill's gun.
With a swift shot, Gamora lay on the ground twitching.
Fortunately, Peter Quill was using electricity and not bullets; otherwise, Gamora would have been dead.
Peter Quill quickly emerged from the bag and dashed away.
But Rocket Raccoon was still there, he couldn't let him escape so easily.
"My motto is simple: 'Hurting people without killing them isn't worth it.'" Rocket aimed a large gun at his shoulder, and with a swoosh, fired an electrified projectile. The projectile hit Peter Quill, electrocuting him on the spot.
"Roll like that, kid." Seeing Peter Quill twitching on the ground from the shock, Rocket Raccoon burst into laughter. Then he said to Groot, who was staring at his severed arms on the ground, "They'll grow back, stop whimpering."
Suddenly, several beams of light descended from the sky, hitting Groot and Rocket Raccoon. Both of them were lifted off the ground, suspended in mid-air.
Then, several hexagonal star-shaped spacecraft appeared in the sky.
"Subject 89P13, drop your weapons!" Someone on the spacecraft shouted, "In the name of the Nova Corps, I declare you under arrest."
"Damn it." Rocket Raccoon dropped his gun.
Not only Rocket Raccoon and Groot, but also Gamora and Peter Quill were all arrested by the Nova Corps.
"Gamora, subjected to surgical enhancements, trained as a living weapon. She's the adopted daughter of the Mad Titan, Thanos, and her sister Nebula. Thanos handed them over to Ronan. It can be inferred that Ronan is colluding with Thanos."
"Subject 89P13, self-proclaimed 'Rocket,' is an experimental subject subjected to illegal genetic and neuro-mechanical enhancements on lower life forms."
"The tree being 'Groot,' a humanoid plant species, is now in the company of Subject 89P13, acting as his domesticated plant and bodyguard."
"Peter Jason Quill, hailing from Terra, raised by a group of mercenaries called the Ravagers. Their leader is Yondu Udonta."
In the prison, the information of the four was presented before the Nova Corps, and they were all confined to the highest-security level of the Kyln prison.
