"What's the rush? This question is quite simple," Loki glanced up and made a quick decision, "First, we can eliminate option A. The Chitauri elite forces were wiped out during the invasion of New York. The remaining forces are insignificant. Besides, I'm Odin's son. Even if I were to lend them some courage, they wouldn't dare to retaliate against me!"
"True, those Chitauri don't dare to provoke us, the Asgardians," Thor added confidently.
"Option B, although I initially captured Thor for ransom, I did help him get his ship. So, it's not unreasonable for me to help him escape. And Heimdall wouldn't kill me over that. I'll make him believe that I'll be there to stop Thor, to assist in his capture. My convulsions from the shock will be the best proof. Heimdall will only be grateful to me, not kill me."
"I believe that. If the God of Mischief couldn't do this, it would truly be astonishing," Thor responded.
"As for option C..." Loki chuckled upon seeing the option, "This is simply impossible. How could I, Loki, sacrifice my life for Thor? Rule out! Rule out!"
"I don't dare to hope that you would sacrifice your life to save me. I only ask that you don't betray me in the future," Thor said to Loki.
"I, Loki, need not explain my actions to you," Loki replied with a smile, choosing option D.
[Incorrect answer! One year of life deducted!]
It must be said that Loki had really terrible social skills. While others discussed their answers, people would help analyze, but when Loki answered, everyone fell silent. Except for Thor, who would say a few words, no one paid any attention to him.
Given Loki's arrogance, he wouldn't take the initiative to engage in discussions with others.
Thus, an awkward silence ensued for a moment.
Fortunately, the video soon began playing, ending the awkwardness.
"This is the Asgardian refugee ship, the Lusong."
"We are under attack, I repeat, under attack!"
"Engines destroyed, heavy casualties!"
"Requesting immediate assistance from nearby ships!"
"We are at a distance of 22 jumps from Asgard!"
"The ship is filled with Asgardian civilians, only a small number of guards."
"We are not a warship! I repeat, we are not a warship!"
Before the visuals even appeared, a distress call echoed in everyone's ears.
Thor's expression changed as soon as he heard it; he hadn't expected the situation to be so dire from the very beginning of the video.
As the distress call played, the visuals appeared. In the vast darkness of space, an immense ship floated, while on the opposite side, several much smaller ships were present. The enormous ship fired a barrage of attacks, obliterating the smaller ships with ease, just like a predator consuming its prey.
Inside the ship, there was a scene of fiery warfare and devastation.
"Listen to me, let me speak." Ulik Muh voiced his words step by step as he walked through the piles of bodies, resuming his abhorrent speech, "You have survived till today thanks to the grace of Lord Thanos. This is not a scene of carnage, no, no, it is their ascension. Your selfless sacrifice ensures the balance of the universe remains unbroken. Smile, for even as you depart from this mortal realm, you shall remain citizens of Lord Thanos."
"I know the taste of failure," Ulik Muh finished speaking, and then it was Thanos's turn, "You thought you had it all under control, only to suffer a crushing defeat."
As Thanos spoke, he bent down and lifted up a bedraggled figure from the ground – it was none other than Thor.
"Feeling scared now, aren't you?" Thor, despite being powerless and seemingly defenseless, still tried to put up a tough front.
"Your legs can't even stand straight," Thanos remarked.
"Why did you do it?" Thor asked.
"Hoping for a stroke of luck, thinking I could escape it. How can one elude destiny?" Thanos held Thor and walked step by step towards Loki. "The time has come, or I should say, it's my turn now."
As he spoke, Thanos placed Thor on the ground and held his head in one hand.
It was at this moment that everyone noticed Thor was wearing an eye patch!
"What's going on? Thor, you're blind!" Tony Stark couldn't help but exclaim, "Thor, you're blind!"
"Why are you shouting so loudly? I'm not blind. I see that I am." Thor retorted irritably.
"It's quite astonishing. With Thor's strength, he actually got his eyes gouged out by someone," Steve Rogers remarked.
"Thanos, Hela, Dormammu—there are too many enemies stronger than me. In the face of such formidable foes, getting injured is inevitable," Thor calmly explained, "Wow~" Loki burst into laughter, "Thor, I must say, you really resemble our father now."
"You also look a bit like the egghead," Tony Stark chimed in.
"..." Nick Fury transformed on the spot, "For crying out loud!"
"Thor received a reward for an eye prosthetic in a previous question space. At that time, Thor even swore that no one could gouge his eyes out," Stephen Strange approached Thor, "Thor, feeling a bit sore in the face?"
"It's probably Hela's doing," Thor's face was indeed slightly flushed, "When Hulk and I left Sakar and returned to Asgard, we went to find Hela. I must have lost my eye during that time."
"It seems 'avenging' Hela didn't go quite smoothly," Steve Rogers noted, "In the end, you actually left Asgard with its people aboard a ship."
The video continued playing.
"You talk too much," Thor said, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
"The Space Stone, or your brother's head?" Thanos raised his left hand, and the purple gem on the Infinity Gauntlet immediately emitted a bright light.
"I've made my choice," Loki said expressionlessly, "Kill him!"
Thanos pressed the purple gem against Thor's forehead, causing him to let out a pig-like scream of agony.
Initially, Loki maintained an indifferent facade, but as Thor's screams grew louder and more intense, Loki couldn't hold back any longer. He shouted, "Enough! Stop!"
"The Space Stone is not in our hands; it was destroyed along with Asgard," Thor knelt there and said loudly.
Loki stretched out his hand, and the Space Stone appeared in his palm.
"You!" Thor felt deeply disappointed. He said to Loki, "I knew you wouldn't change."
"I promise you, brother, we will be fine," Thor held the Space Stone with one hand and approached Thanos step by step.
"Asgardian, still cheeky even at death's door," Thanos said.
"I have to clarify, I am not an Asgardian," Loki corrected, looking at Thanos. "Besides, we have the Hulk."
"Ah!!"
A roar sounded, and the Hulk's green body charged forward, delivering a series of powerful punches at Thanos, forcing him to retreat.
Black Dwarf, eager to help, grabbed his axe, but Ebony Maw stopped him with a raised hand. "Let him enjoy himself."
Ebony Maw's judgment was right. The situation on the field quickly turned around. Thanos began to counterattack, pummeling the Hulk with heavy blows.
Boom!
After a series of strikes, Thanos lifted the Hulk into the air and slammed him forcefully onto the ground, rendering the Hulk motionless.
"To think he defeated the Hulk head-on. Thanos truly deserves to be the ruler of the universe," Stephen Strange couldn't help but comment.
"Yes, this is the first time I've seen the Hulk defeated head-on," Tony Stark added.
"I'm also witnessing it for the first time," Bruce Banner chimed in. "However, I believe it's not a bad thing for the Hulk to realize he's not invincible."
"Hulk was defeated. Is there anyone left on this ship who can stop Thanos?" Steve Rogers stared fixedly at the video.
Boom!
In the video, Thor made his move. He swung a staff at Thanos, but it was as if he was tickling him; it didn't seem to cause any harm at all.
Thanos casually kicked Thor, sending him flying.
Ururhmuth intervened, uttering an incomprehensible incantation. With a gesture, debris floated up from the ground and bound Thor securely.
"Father of the gods, grant me one final use of the power of darkness..." At that moment, Heimdall, lying there, suddenly moved. Holding a sword in one hand and gesturing with the other, a rainbow-colored light appeared.
The light descended onto the Hulk, and in the next moment, the Hulk's body vanished, carried away by the rainbow light, leaving the ship.
"You shouldn't have done this." Thanos walked to Heimdall's side, picked up a spear-like weapon, and thrust it into Heimdall's chest.
"No!!" Thor, bound in place, witnessed this and shouted anxiously, "I will kill you for this!"
"This scene probably occurred before the events of Ururhmuth's descent on Earth, right?" Stephen Strange speculated. "Heimdall sent Hulk to Earth, as a warning to Earth."
"Seems likely," Steve Rogers agreed. "Although in our world, we didn't directly see Hulk's warning on screen, in the Zombie World #5, there was a scene of Hulk warning."
"Heimdall did everything to send the Hulk as a warning to Earth, but it seems it didn't have a significant impact," Tony Stark sighed. "He was so loyal to Thor, and he died like this. It's truly a pity."
"What I'm curious about is why Heimdall chose to send Hulk at this moment," Natasha Romanoff said. "Thor was there too. Why didn't he send Thor away? Remember, Thanos was on the ship. Whoever Heimdall sent away would be the one saved."
"Because Heimdall knew that I wouldn't abandon Asgard's people and escape on my own," Thor explained. "I would never do such a thing."
"It's not about whether you escape or not. Even if you stayed, it wouldn't change anything," Clint Barton remarked. "Don't just think about your people; even you wouldn't be spared."
"For the honor of Asgard," Loki finally spoke.
"What do you mean?" Clint Barton asked.
"Thanos invaded Asgard's ship and slaughtered its people," Loki spoke slowly. "But the Hulk is a guest of Asgard; this battle isn't his to fight. As an Asgardian with at least some self-respect, I wouldn't stand by and watch Asgard's guest die for Asgard. So Heimdall chose to send the Hulk away."
"That makes some sense," Clint Barton shrugged.
"Compared to Thor, Hulk is a native of Earth. If you're sending a warning to Earth, it's probably more suitable to let Earth deal with one of its own," Phil Coulson offered his perspective. "Perhaps there's also that aspect to consider."
The video continued playing. Ururhmuth extended his hand, placing two pieces of iron over Thor's mouth, silencing him. He then presented the Space Stone, kneeling and offering it. "My esteemed Lord, I am willing to pledge my unwavering loyalty to you. None can compare to your might, your nobility, and your worthiness of possessing these two Infinity Stones. The entire universe is within your grasp."
Thanos removed his helmet, holding the Space Stone in his hand. He clenched it tightly, and with a crack, the translucent cube shattered, revealing a blue gem.
Ding!
Thanos mounted the Space Stone onto the Infinity Gauntlet, and a surge of blue energy emanated from it. A pained cry escaped Thanos's lips.
"Two Stones remain on Earth." Thanos commanded Ururhmuth and the others, "Retrieve them and bring them to Titan, for my children."
"Father, we will not disappoint you." Ururhmuth, Black Dwarf, and General Proxima Midnight knelt in succession.
"I hope you don't mind if I interject." Loki suddenly approached, "If you're going to Earth, you should bring me along. I have more experience in attacking Earth than you."
"Are you referring to your failed experiences?" Thanos asked, acknowledging that Loki had invaded New York. However, he didn't know if Loki was aware of his humiliating encounter with the Hulk.
"Earthlings say failure is the mother of success." Loki walked towards Thanos, "Invincible Thanos, I, Loki, Prince of Asgard, Odin's son, heir to the throne of Jotunheim, and the God of Mischief, hereby pledge that I will forever be loyal to you."
Swoosh!
As he spoke, Loki suddenly reached out, a dagger aimed for Thanos's throat.
But Thanos was not so easily defeated. A blue light flashed on his left hand, freezing Loki's dagger in midair.
"You said 'forever'?" Thanos grabbed Loki's wrist holding the blade, knocking the dagger away. "You won't get to experience what 'forever' truly means."
With that, Thanos's large hand closed around Loki's neck, lifting him off the ground.
"You... could never become a god." Loki's legs flailed uncontrollably as he struggled to speak.
Thanos sneered, his powerful hand tightened, and a crisp "snap" was heard as Loki's neck twisted.
The God of Mischief met his end right then and there.
"This time, he's truly dead." Thanos walked to Thor, carrying Loki's lifeless body, and casually tossed it at Thor's feet.
He raised his hand, a portal formed, and he, Ururhmuth, and the others were engulfed.
As the portal closed, there was no trace left of Thanos and his cohorts.
Only the bodies and the chaos remained.
"No, Loki!" Thor painstakingly crawled to Loki's side, tears streaming down his face as he lay on Loki's lifeless form.
The scene dimmed, and the video came to an end.
All eyes were on Loki once again.
Loki's unexpected death was a shock to everyone. No one had anticipated that he would sacrifice himself to kill Thanos.
In a room full of superheroes who saw it as their duty to confront Thanos, most of them survived the ordeal. Ironically, Loki, the long-standing antagonist, died in the quest to defeat Thanos.
It was truly unforeseen.
"I never expected this. Loki actually died trying to kill Thanos," Steve Rogers was the first to speak up.
"Indeed, it's quite a surprise," Tony Stark agreed. "No one saw this coming."
"Loki, I always knew I didn't misjudge you!" Thor's face lit up with joy as he grabbed Loki's shoulders and exclaimed, "You dared to face Thanos for me. I knew you cared about me!"
"Listen to this. What a bunch of sappy words," Tony Stark quipped from the side. "'I knew you cared about me.' Whoever hears words like that wouldn't think Loki was acting like a girl."
"Get lost! Stop being so handsy!" Loki pushed Thor away hurriedly at the comment.
"In the video, I told you that your capabilities went far beyond being the God of Mischief. Indeed, you sacrificed your life for a nobler and greater purpose," Thor cried tears of happiness. "Loki..."
"Shut up, Thor." Loki couldn't bear Thor's antics anymore. He waved his hand to silence him. "I am, after all, Odin's son, Prince of Asgard. It's not abnormal for me to do something like this."
"Given your usual 'Loki style,' it does feel rather abnormal," Stephen Strange added. "However, just because you died trying to assassinate Thanos, we might consider accepting you – as long as you don't plan on invading New York again. Of course, other cities on Earth like Los Angeles or Chicago are off-limits too. But we might take you in."
"Ridiculous, I need a bunch of mortals' acceptance?" Loki burst into laughter at the idea. "I, Loki, Odin's son, Prince of Asgard, heir to the throne of Jotunheim, the God of..."
Before Loki could finish, Thor covered his mouth, smiling at everyone, "Thank you all for accepting Loki. I really appreciate it. I'll make sure to teach him well and prevent him from making mistakes."
[Question Nine begins. Please be prepared.]
[When asked to sign the "Sokovia Accords," who chose retirement?]
[A) Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff]
[B) Hawkeye, Clint Barton]
[C) Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff]
[D) War Machine, James Rhodes]
[Correct answer rewards Insightful Perception (ability to sense and foresee enemy attack patterns and surroundings). Incorrect answer deducts one year of lifespan.]
"The 'Sokovia Accords'! It was signing this accord that led to the Civil War among heroes!" Nick Fury said solemnly.
"Definitely the Sokovia Accords," Phil Coulson said.
"This option is quite strange. Who chose retirement? During the Airport Battle, all four of the options were present," Stephen Strange pointed out. "This person was planning to retire, so why would they get involved in the Civil War?"
"The Airport Battle was primarily triggered by the arrest of the Winter Soldier," Bruce Banner explained. "Someone impersonated the Winter Soldier and committed a crime, prompting Tony and the signatories of the Accords to go after him. Captain America knew that the Winter Soldier was being framed, and he couldn't just stand by as his friend was captured. He gathered some allies who hadn't signed the Accords and opposed the enforcement. From this perspective, this person should be on Captain America's side. Since they had chosen retirement, they wouldn't follow General Ross's orders. However, if they helped as friends, it makes sense."
"That makes sense," Tony Stark agreed. "So, we can eliminate two options right away, leaving us to choose between Clint and Wanda."
"I remember now, it must be Wanda or Clint," Pietro Maximoff said. "At the start of the Civil War, I distinctly recall Tony saying, 'We shouldn't drag Clint into this, or take Wanda from where she doesn't want to leave.'"
"Drag Clint into this? Take Wanda from where she doesn't want to leave?" Thor puzzled over it for a moment, but couldn't quite grasp the meaning. "So, who chose retirement?"
"I believe it's Clint," Natasha Romanoff said. "Clint has a wife and children. He has responsibilities. It wouldn't be surprising if he chose to retire early."
"Exactly. Rather than signing some convoluted accord and following orders from people I've probably never even met, I'd prefer to retire," Clint Barton explained.
"Retirement for Clint seems very reasonable. What about Wanda?" Pietro Maximoff suggested. "That statement could also imply that Wanda retired."
"I think that statement isn't about retirement, but about Vision," Nick Fury interjected.
"Vision?" Pietro Maximoff turned to Nick Fury. "How does that relate to Vision?"
"It's actually quite relevant. The interactions between Vision and Wanda during the Civil War indicate that they were already together at that time," Nick Fury explained. "So, the 'where she doesn't want to leave' could refer to the 'happy nest' she shared with Vision."
"That does make Wanda seem more likely to have retired," Scott Lang said.
"No, if Wanda truly was with Vision, we can determine whether she retired based on Vision's status," Stephen Strange said. "If Vision retired, there's a high chance Wanda would have retired as well. But if Vision didn't retire, neither would Wanda. Isn't this the way most women in love act? They prioritize their partner and follow in their footsteps."
