บท 66: Mau
Crash! A man in silver armour crashed through a building into a pavement. Alongside him, several others in silver armour lay around, some losing their arms as others bled profusely from several parts of their bodies. Per their dress, one could assume they were city guards.
A man with a mane around him was rampaging in the city. From a glance, the city could be assumed a village. The buildings were not high-class, and those living there were not strong enough to stop the oncoming rampaging man. The city guards dispatched there were the lowest of the low. It was as if the city had been given up on.
Blood dripped from the mane of the man as his black eyes peered at residents running helter-skelter. One look was all it took to realise he had fallen into madness. He dashed for a fleeing woman and was about to rip her when a shadow appeared behind him and slammed him into the ground with a hammer. The head of the hammer was big and square, with a rounded face and a long handle supporting it from the middle.
A dark man stretched his hands, and the hammer returned to him. He dropped it and put his foot on its head. "That's enough", he declared, flexing the muscles on his arms. He had an athletic build and wore an enormous armless leather jacket. The madman stood and roared at him as his eyes turned deeper. He stamped the ground, and golems appeared out of it and raced for the man with the hammer.
His green eyes scanned the golems, and with a scoff, he destroyed them all with a hammer swing. He passed his hand through his curly, faded hair and commented, "Is that all you got? I was worried since you were rampaging on earlier and killing all the guards here. If that is all, then goodbye."
He swung his hammer so fast he created a wind pressure with it and struck the man into the air. In a blink, he appeared behind him, slamming him back down. A loud boom sounded as a cloud of dust covered the area. After the dust settled, the man was knocked out in a crater. The man with the hammer promptly lifted his head and saw a figure flying in the distance. "He is strong. I might as well test my strength with him", he smirked and ran in the flying man's direction.
Lin flew over many cities to master his art of flight. While flying, he tried many stunts and manoeuvres while creating orbs around himself to practice his ability to keep himself afloat while manifesting his powers. As he moved, he suddenly turned, moving the flame orbs around him before him and forming an X with his arms. He got sent flying as a hammer struck him. He crashed into the ground, sending dust and debris everywhere.
Many people dispersed as they saw someone crash down there. The city was void of guards and was a total slum. It was almost impossible to find anywhere to pass. Lin stood as a hammer landed on the floor a few meters away. A man in an armless jacket dropped the hammer and lifted it over his shoulders.
"Hi, I'm Kamau, but you can call me Mau. It's nice to meet you", he said with a smirk. Lin looked around at the destruction and frowned. "What is the meaning of this? See what you have done to this place, making people here more miserable than they already are. Are you out of your mind?" Apart from the fact that he was unhappy about being attacked, causing destruction to the residence of innocents was a no-no for him.
"Who cares about all of that? Fight me!" Mau said directly and raised his hammer, ready to strike. "What?" Lin couldn't believe his ears. Someone attacked him out of nowhere and asked for a fight. He found it ridiculous. He didn't say more, and the man assaulted him again. He jumped out of the way, and the ground was smashed even further.
"Hey! Are you out of your mind?" Lin barked as he retreated from the man's attacks. "This guy looks younger than I am; why is he so fixated on picking a fight with me, kids these days. How does he swing around that huge hammer as if it were nothing?"
Lin covered his face with flames and flew away as the guy kept attacking without a pause. "I knew you were thinking of that, but I won't allow it", Mau said, snapping his fingers. "Increase gravity." Lin felt the area become denser, and he was pulled back down, hitting the ground with a loud thud. "Gravity? Is this guy being serious right now?"
Lin gritted his teeth as his power erupted madly, dispelling the gravity around him. "Whoa!" Mau was surprised. "Did he just dispel my ability? Interesting, now I want to fight him even more." Mau was surrounded by a red aura halo as his aura spiked up. The pressure he exuded increased tremendously, and so did his gravity field.
Like a giant tree against the wind, Lin stood unmoving with black fire emanating from one eye and black lightning from the other. "Hey! Do you want to flatten this place with that ability of yours? Can't you see people suffering because of you? Dispel your ability right now." Lin demanded.
Looking at him, he looked like a fire-breathing beast. "He is moving in my gravity field as if walking in his backyard? Just how strong is he?" Mau contemplated and said, "If you agree to fight me, I would dispel it." He poured even more power into his field, increasing the gravity there. Under tremendous pressure, those around were about to be squashed.
"This punk!" Lin walked towards him with black fire wrapped around him. Every step he took sent little cracks into the ground. "Looks like talking isn't going to cut it." Lin sighed and punched Mau in the tummy, sending him into the air. He couldn't even react to Lin's movements. Lin jumped after him and flung him away from the city. Arching through the sky like a comet, he blasted him with fire orbs.
Mau crashed into a thicket of trees, coughing up blood. Lin landed before him and lifted him with one hand, "Had enough yet?" he asked. Mau smiled and yelled, "Gotcha!" he held Lin's hand and increased the gravity of Lin's and his body. Lin dropped to his knees and let go of Mau.
"This guy is this strong even though he is only ranked 19? He is talented, but it is a shame I still have to beat him. He would have been a worthy opponent if he were one more rank above me."
Mau lifted his hammer and struck down towards Lin. A spear barred his path, and the hammer struck it. Lin touched Mau's feet and sent a jolt of lightning through him. Mau screamed and dropped to the ground. "I can't believe he gave me such a hard time." Lin sighed and turned to leave, but Mau grabbed his ankle, "Teach me", he pleaded.
"What? I haven't even finished learning myself. How am I supposed to teach you?" Lin remarked. "I don't care. I still want you to teach me."
"Ah! Where did this crazy guy pop up from?" Lin palmed his face and sighed. "He is quite determined. If I reject him, I have a feeling he will keep bothering me because of it, and I have too much going on right now to have him go with me. I think I would be best to send him to Basilisk."
Lin's space storage cube appeared, and he took a card from it. It was a card that showed he was a member of Basilisk. Each Basilisk member has a specific card different from all the others. "Take this and find the leader of Basilisk. Give it to her, and she will tell you what to do." Lin turned around and flew away after that.
Mau sat crossed-legged and examined the card. "Basilisk, huh? Where do I even start searching."
"Please don't go picking a fight with them like you did with me if you want to keep your head." Lin's voice reached him. He pouted with a grunt.
