"Aarrrhhh!" There was an enormous explosion in a dark red lightning-laden sky. A being cladded in red overalls with a horn in the middle of its forehead hung in the sky beside a wormhole the size of an average human. Veins bulged on its head as sweat trickled down its face like a waterfall.
It had bloodshot red eyes which bled as it gazed into the wormhole. It had no arms and used its eyes to deploy its elemental powers. A black halo surrounded its eyes as it struggled to keep the wormhole from closing.
"Cresent, how are you holding up?" another in yellow overalls flew to its side and questioned. "Not good! The wormhole is becoming more and more unstable. I would not be able to hold it for much longer before it collapses", it answered.
The one cladded in yellow stretched forth its hands and healed the bleeding eyes of the one in red. They both looked the same, except one had no arms. They had very long hair that flowed down to their feet. "Does this help?" the one in yellow, called Mu, asked.
"Not in the slightest, Mu. If those two don't arrive soon, we might lose our chance!" Mu frowned. They had been keeping the wormhole stable for almost a month, and if it closed now, all of their work would have been in vain. "How long do you think you can hold on?" Mu asked.
"Not a second more than half an hour." Mu's eyes widened. He knew if he did nothing, that was the end. "You hold on as long as you can. I would try to get them here as quickly as possible", Mu said, flying in a different direction.
In the deepest part of a desert, two beings were running towards Cresent's location. One was in black armour like obsidian with green vines wrapped all around the armour. The only part of its body visible was its deep green eyes. It had a halberd strapped to its back and carried a giant shield on its right arm. It looked like a Knight of the Green.
It raced a few meters ahead of another with hardened brownish-red scales on its body. It was humanoid and carried two daggers on its waist. Its body looked cracked, and a yellowish liquid flowed through the cracks. The top of its head was like a crown. His every step melted the ground. A few miles ahead, they spotted another being approaching at great speed. It was Mu. "Giko, can you hear me?" Mu asked. He was telepathically communicating with another calamity being. "Loud and clear, Mu."
"Giko, I have eyes on them. You can use possession now. We need to create a path for them to reach the wormhole faster. We have less than a quarter of an hour before it closes", Mu said. "Are you sure about this, Mu? The consequences…"
"Just do it, Giko!" Mu cut. "This is not the time to be worried about consequences. If we lose this chance, we may never get another." Mu said impatiently. Giko remained silent for a few seconds and agreed. "Fine then. Here I go".
Mu's yellow eyes turned black as he lost all control of his body. Brown aura manifested and surrounded his entire being. He coughed up dark green blood, and his aura decreased. "Mu?" Giko tried to object. "Do it!" Mu was adamant to change his mind. His body stopped and began to move as if it were performing a martial dance. The desert began to quake, and with his every move, it rose to form a bridge that headed towards the wormhole.
The two calamity beings raced onto the bridge and increased their speed. Pushing themselves past their ultimate speed. Meanwhile, Mu's body was not holding up well to the possession. He began to bleed from his eyes and nostrils but refused to take control of his body and allowed Giko to use his body as he pleased.
Possession is done by imbuing others with your aura to control them. More powerful calamity beings can possess the bodies of less powerful ones and manifest their elements through those bodies. That is how Mu's body was used to control the earth element even though he had a healing element. However, the method is very taxing on the host, and they could be left incapacitated or worse if they are not strong enough.
Half an hour quickly went by, and the wormhole began closing up. Cresent poured out all the power he could, to keep it open for at least a few more seconds. Seeing Cresent's situation worsening, the two calamity beings pushed themselves further and shot through the wormhole like lightning. They had barely gone in when the wormhole collapsed, and Cresent got thrown back like an empty sack in the wind. His eyes exploded in his skull, and he dropped into a thicket of trees. A pointed branch impaled him as he fell back first on it. He struggled a bit and ultimately remained motionless.
Mu's condition was not much different. As soon as the two went through the wormhole, Giko stopped the possession, and Mu dropped to the ground like a dead fly. He landed from a great height, shattering all the bones in his body. He remained motionless as blood trickled down his lips.
In the territory of Kore, a wormhole appeared in the sky as the two calamity beings dropped from it and landed heavily, sending a slight quake into the ground. It happened within a split second. As soon as they landed, the calamity being in armour had green sprouts like buds develop on the vines on its armour. The buds bloomed as a green mist wafted out of it and spread through the territory.
In the heat of preparing for the ranking bout, many people were not present in the hunting territories. The slipping in of the calamity beings went unnoticed, and they walked the length of the territory, spreading the mist as they went along. Like pollens in the wind, the green fog scattered throughout the territory and went beyond it to other hunting territories within the region. The mist was odourless and did not attract any attention as it continued to spread.
As the mist spread, many beasts in the hunting territories came into contact with it. A sniff was all it took to cause changes in their anatomy. The change was slow, but it was steady.
On the outskirts of the territory of Kore, four men hid among bushes and targeted two beings that were coming in their direction. They jumped out to surround them once they were close, however, seeing them, they froze on the spot as beads of sweat rolled down their body, soaking them in a few seconds. With their element sense, they realised the two approaching were much stronger than they were. Even with their combined strengths, they couldn't hope to defeat them.
They tried to retreat but were held in place by vines. "What the hell is this?" one cried. "You are joining the ranking bout, yes?" the scaled calamity being asked as he stood before one man. "Y…ye…yes", he said and nodded vigorously.
"That saves us the trouble", it said, grabbing the man by the head. "Aarrrhhh!" the man screamed as lava emanated from the being's hands and covered his head, burning it instantly to cinders.
The others were scared out of their skin. Their faces turned pale immediately, but there was nothing they could do. Vines bound them, and they could only struggle in vain. Soon, vines grew out of their skins and mouths, turning them into plant sculptures.
