100% War On Man / Chapter 34: Saved By The Bell

บท 34: Saved By The Bell

Trent strolled up and down the short hallway while Noria stood at the end next to the two male contractors, watching him. He stopped at the first room and entered it. Trent looked up at the light, and it flickered slightly. Then he looked around the room but concluded nothing was out of place.

Trent exited the room and walked back to Noria, saying, "I don't see how they ended up underground; there must be another entrance."

"I don't know, something about this place just seems off."

Trent surveyed the place once again and walked around them, touching the walls. "What are you looking for?" Noria asked

"A few years ago, I was dispatched to deal with a phenomenon in Iraq," Trent replied, fingering the wall, "The people complained about hearing things in the wall, people speaking, and children disappearing near them. But when I got there, I couldn't find anything. It was only..." He stopped where the room Turnner was in would have been and hit the wall, then listened. "It was only until we utilized a simple trick of listening for the sound after banging the wall."

He stepped back and rushed forward with his fist clenched. "If the sound was hollow, then there was a room behind it!" He struck the wall and revealed the hollow tunnel that held the elevator. Trent peeked over the edge. "Why didn't I think of this earlier?"

"Good work," Noria commended. "You two follow him inside; I'll go and gather the rest of the team." The other two contractors nodded their heads, and the three of them jumped down the tunnel.

Meanwhile, Irina was still sitting next to Turnner. The room was almost silent, if not for the faint sound of the machine. Irina was examining her gun when she suddenly had the thought to check the machine, so she looked up at it and saw that the screen was saying 90%. Then she began to taunt Turnner, "Time is of the essence, Turnner, and yet there's no hope for you in sight."

"It's not about hope, but instead it is the fact that your whole plan will fail without me alive, and that's if you can kill me."

"What do you mean by that?" Irina asked, confused.

"So it seems your sister didn't even bother to tell you," Turnner replied, hinting at something.

Irina decided to ignore him. "I don't know what you're talking about, but you're running out of luck." She looked over at the machine, and it was saying 95%.

"I don't believe his lucky faith is what makes a man."

"Suit yourself."

While they were talking, Trent and the other two contractors crashed through the roof of the elevator and landed on the ground. Before them was a long hallway intersecting with other hallways. Trent looked over at the contractor with the tablet in his hand and said, "Show us the way to Turnner."

The man pressed something on his screen then looked up at the intersections. "This way." He replied then hurried down the corridor.

Meanwhile, Irina stood right in front of the machine, staring at the screen.

She walked back to Turnner and pulled the wire from his head, then threw it to the ground. Afterward, she put her gun to his head and said, "Looks like you put your faith in the wrong thing, Turnner.'' Then she pulled back the slide and rested her finger on the trigger.

Turnner closed his eyes. Meanwhile, Trent was rushing down a hallway with the other contractors. "We're not even a minute away from his location," the contractor with the tablet assured.

Irina pressed down on the trigger, and the gun discharged, but it didn't hit Turnner. Irina instead shot the contractor with the tablet who rushed inside the room. The bullet had hit his chest, which stunned him, and Trent caught him in his hand and looked up at Irina.

She shot at him, but he heartlessly used that contractor to block the two bullets, then backed out of the room. Irina stood there with the gun pointed at the door. However, Trent suddenly put his hand out and threw a dagger at her.

Although she discharged the gun at Trent's hand, it had missed, but the dagger struck her in the chest. She stepped back in pain, holding her chest tightly. "Fuck!" she exclaimed then fired 2 more shots at the door. Then in malice, she turned the gun on Turnner and fired it once, hitting him in the head.

Then proceeded to press the trigger more times, but that was her last bullet. So she staggered to the back of the room and exited through a white door. Trent, recognizing the commotion had stopped, stepped inside the room and rushed to Amelia.

The other contractor entered behind him and rushed to untie Turnner. As Turnner's hands were released and he could stand, his eyes began to clear. "Perfect timing," he mentioned.

Trent looked back at Turnner as he helped Amelia up, who could barely stand. "What was she doing with you all?"

Turnner rubbed his wrist. "Well, she gave up on Amelia and resorted to stealing information she thinks will lead her to the Theatom."

At that moment, Tokito and Noria entered the room and rushed to Amelia. "Amelia!" Noria exclaimed, hugging her tightly. Tokito stood a short distance away from them with a grateful smile. Turnner was slightly amused by the mother and daughter reunion but broke the joyful spirit.

"One of the twins died, and the other one got away. What'd you hit her with, Trent?"

Trent, who was looking at the machine, looked at Turnner. "It was a poison dagger, but it's not lethal. I didn't have the time to add that to the weapon. But she's likely unable to fight at all after getting struck with that dagger."

"So she's gonna be a problem," Turnner replied, looking at Noria.

Noria sighed, "Look, it's been a long day, and we're all tired. I'll have the staff search this place, and we'll deal with her tomorrow." Then she put Amelia's arms around her, and they exited the room with Tokito in front of them. Trent looked at Turnner for a moment, then turned and left the room also.

Three days later

Turnner could be seen sitting on a bench in a park. He had a phone to his ear, speaking to someone. "Buchae, it seems one of the twins got away."

"Want me to find her?" Buchae asked.

Turnner licked his lips, "Yes, I think it's about time we moved ahead with one of the Severance List main objectives."

"Understood," Buchae replied then cut off the phone.

Then Amelia suddenly sat on the bench right behind him. "It's not good to eavesdrop on someone's conversation."

"It's not good to ruin people's lives and kill those who dare to meet your objectives, or should I be biased for those with Immunity."

"You make it sound like I intentionally caused this; everything until now has been to protect the Theatom."

"So we're all just cannon fodder."

Turnner sighed, "Lucas knew what he was getting into when he joined the agency."

Amelia scowled, "So if I kill you right now, would you just be considered cannon fodder?"

"No, and you know this. I have immunity, so you would be breaching state law. I'm regarded as a highly important asset. As for Lucas, he was just some agent."

Amelia looked at some kids in the park as the 3pm sun beat down on the grass, then she asked, "Do you think you're a good person, Turnner?"

"No," Turnner answered, looking to the side with his eyes, waiting for a reply.

"Neither do I, so I hope you burn in hell."

Turnner chuckled, "And where will you be, heaven?" Turnner turned his head to the side, "Only one being is good, and that's God. The Christians believe this, so if their doctrine is true, then sooner or later we'll all be burning in hell. Don't worry; I'll be happy to burn with you." Then he got up and left Amelia sitting on the bench.
