บท 118: Champions Navi (part 3)

Billy had been waiting in line for some time to visit King Moonlights new shop Champions Navi. Everything about King Moonlight was strange to him, but even with the wisdom of Solomon, he could not figure out why and how the Justice League Hero was strange. He just was.
King Moonlights energy source seemed similar to Chi energy otherwise known as QI and yet it wasn't, if he could give the power a name, he would probably call it Life Magic. Everyone had life within them, but nobody could accumulate and wield life force to the degree that King Moonlight does as far as he was aware.
Realizing he was finally at the front of doors, he walked in and started to look around. A number of things caught his interest, but unfortunately he didn't have any money to spend. He was just here out of his own curiosity. Window shopping wasn't anything new to him. Although he was no longer bouncing from foster home to foster home and had finally settled down with a family that didn't seem that bad, he was still a kid and therefore jobless. He had just gotten used to this family and it felt awkward to ask them for an allowance this early.
Walking past a father and his son Billy caught part of their conversation. "Are you sure you want Icon? Why not one of the Justice League members?." Hearing his fathers suggestion, the son had a face as if he had just smelt a fart. "They are too mainstream, Icon is strong enough to wipe out half of the league on his own anyway."
The father smiled. "Too mainstream? I guess I'm just too old to understand. Fine, Icon it is."
Billy was a little envious seeing the father and son together shopping happily, but his envy was blown away as soon as he saw what the father and son duo had been talking about. In front of them was a huge shelf of almost every Hero he knew of, including himself. He had seen one or two Superman and Flash action figures in his lifetime, but he had never seen action figures of so many heroes before. They even had many lesser known Heroes.
There were even Heroes he had never heard of before. Ones that stood out were All Might, Big guy and Rusty, Blade, Vice Admiral Garp, Ryo of wildfire, Spawn, and there were even piloted armored giants called Gundams. Picking up a Sung Jinwoo action figure, he thought the character looked a little too dark to be a Hero, but it had a really cool vibe to it. Pressing the button on the action figures chest it even had a cool voice as it said the word "Arise". According to it's box, the Hero was a necromancer who could raise the dead to fight for him.
Suddenly a hand was resting on Billy's shoulder. Looking back behind him he saw King Moonlight as he spoke quietly to him. "I still owe you one, if you want, you can pick either five cheaper items or one expensive item and we can call each other even. Sound good? Even if you agree and have a request later, I'll make time for you though."
Although Billy still wanted to know how King Moonlight knew of his other identity, he never expected to call in a favor from him anyway so he could only nod after hearing his words. He really wanted some of the things in this store. He was still a young kid after all.
King Moonlight smiled. "Good, I'll let Osul at the cash register know you are a good friend of mine and tell him of our deal so things go smoothly for you at checkout." After speaking, King Moonlight walked towards Osul at the register leaving Billy behind. It was obvious he had already started to tell the cashier about him.
Billy couldn't help but smile as he grabbed a Superman, Cyborg, Captain Marvel, and King Moonlight action figure before going over and grabbing a new pair of Hermes shoes that created tiny arcs of red and orange lighting when you ran in them. The shoes were white, with golden metal wings on the sides towards the heel. They were out of this world cool and Billy could tell they would be popular amongst his age group soon.
Taking all of the items up to the register he saw the kid called Osul who was not much older than him working at the counter. As he waited on the items to be bagged, his eyes landed on a cute girl also a little bit older than him far away in the corner of the store. Beautiful was an understatement as far as Billy was concerned.
"Hey bro, Stop checking out my twin sister before I bop your head" the kid named Osul said from behind the counter.
"S-sorry, I didn't mean to stare, I just thought she was pretty." Billy replied. The cute girl in question began to giggle as if she heard what he had said which didn't seem possible considering the distance.
The kid behind the counter didn't look happy. "Take your items already, you're holding up the line."
Billy realized he had been staring again and quickly grabbed his bag as he apologized once more and exited the store a little embarrassed.
As he was leaving he saw a couple of familiar faces walking in. Green arrows protege Speedy and a prominent figure in the magic community Zatanna. It didn't look like they came together, they likely just arrived at the store at a similar time and had ended up close together in line. Nobody but King Moonlight knew of Billy's civilian identity currently so they paid him no attention as they walked in.
As he passed by he could hear Zatanna speak once she entered the store. "What strange potions, they defy the laws of this universe and are unlike any alchemy I have ever seen." Billy wasn't surprised by what Zatanna had said. The more he knew about King Moonlight the more questions he had. Almost as an instinctual fear of the unknown, he did not have any desire to have the answers to those questions though. He decided to remain curious. He felt that if he ever had his questions answered, his whole world would fall apart and his worldview would be shattered.
Walking past the long line that was still waiting to go into the store, Billy felt the familiar energy of King Moonlight and looked in the direction of the source only to lock eyes with a scary looking man that was already looking directly at him. He looked like the ugly twin of that new singer he's been seeing on tv a lot lately. The one that was really popular in the Hero community right now. He couldn't think of the singers name, but he felt he resembled him a little bit.
Billy had more questions yet again, but chose to ignore them. 'I've got enough problems of my own to worry about, I don't have the time to focus on others." Hugging his bag of new items tight, he started jogging home.
