Chapter 56, Colin

It had been a while, and Colin was starting to think that Nick Fury was truly enjoying his afternoon at the café.

"Did I come late?" A hoarse voice sounded in the café.

She arrived.

Natasha!

Inside the taxi, upon hearing the familiar voice, Colin couldn't help but feel a shiver of excitement.

He held his breath, driving the taxi around the nearby blocks while attentively listening to the conversation between Nick Fury and Natasha inside the café.

...

"No, you're just in time."

Closing the book in his hand, Nick Fury looked at the redhead in front of him and smiled before turning to signal the waiter.

Lowering his hat, sitting in front of Nick Fury, Natasha glanced at the emergency exit of the café out of habit. She shifted her gaze back to Nick Fury, carefully examining his flawless Caucasian face. "Impressive disguise."

"Thank you."

Nodding at the waiter, Nick pushed the coffee on the table closer to Natasha's position. "Howard's new invention, you know how skilled he is in this field. Full of ingenious ideas. If it weren't for the setback and impact of that incident, Stark Industries' development would be completely different."

Picking up the coffee in front of her, Natasha took a sip, somewhat indifferent. "I admit, Howard is an exceptionally talented individual. However, I suppose your purpose for contacting me goes beyond showing off your new equipment."

While speaking, Natasha glanced at the time inside the café, reminding him, "You should be aware that my personal time is not abundant."

"Phineas Horton."

In response to Natasha's reminder, Nick set aside his sighs and leaned slightly forward, placing the book in his hand on the table. He softly pronounced the name that only "the two of them" could hear.

Covering his facial expression with the coffee cup, Natasha raised an eyebrow as she looked at Nick Fury across from her.

"Phineas Horton once led a secret experiment called 'The Resurrection Project' during World War II. The relevant documents of the experiment were sealed and transferred by the German troops stationed in America at the time. Recently, we discovered its traces in the remains of the Hydra Bioresearch Laboratory in Düsseldorf."

(Note: there was an translation error is last chapter named experiment, that has been corrected. The project name was the The Resurrection Project not SS project.)

"We need to know the purpose behind Hydra's activation of 'The Resurrection Project.'"

...

Setting down the coffee cup, Natasha glanced at the cover of the book in Nick's hand with a calm expression. "I will investigate everything you mentioned. Also, if you plan to contact me again next time, perhaps consider changing..."

...

"Taxi!"

Change, change what?

Inside the taxi, Colin was using his super hearing to listen to their conversation. Suddenly, a pedestrian on the roadside waved at him.

Seeing the untimely passenger in front of him, Colin initially intended to ignore him and drive past. However, he remembered Nick Fury's reminder and stepped on the brake, bringing the car to a stop.

Looking at the taxi in front of him, the passenger opened the door and saw Colin, who had disguised himself as Nick Fury, in the driver's seat. There was a hint of hesitation on the passenger's face. He furrowed his brow, glanced at his wrist for a moment, and reluctantly sat in the back seat, saying, "Go to the embassy." (In German)

Observing the passenger's appearance through the rearview mirror, Colin noted the distinct German features—a high cheekbone, green eyes, and slightly receding blond hair with a touch of gray. His facial expression carried a hint of arrogance that wasn't easily concealed.

"What?"

Withdrawing his gaze from the rearview mirror, Colin wore a puzzled expression upon hearing the passenger's words.

"Sorry, sir, could you please repeat that? I didn't catch your meaning."

The passenger cast a disdainful glance at the confused Colin, seemingly unwilling to repeat himself. Reluctantly, he repeated in English, laced with a heavy German accent, "I said, go to the German embassy."

Struggling to discern the destination from the man's accent, Colin nodded and reminded him, then pressed the accelerator to start the taxi and headed toward the German embassy.

"...confirmed... Hank... Pi... Doctor... perhaps..."

As the distance increased, the content that could be heard through his super hearing became intermittent.

After driving more than ten kilometers, Colin could no longer hear the conversation between Nick Fury and Natasha inside the café from inside the taxi.

Helplessly giving up his ability of super hearing, Colin continued driving the taxi toward the German embassy while silently contemplating what he had heard.

There was no doubt that Natasha was a spy implanted by the Dark Avengers within Thunderbolt. or Hydra.

Such an identity was consistent with her role as the original Black Widow, a highly skilled agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

On one side, Colin silently pondered everything.

On the other side, as they approached the German embassy, the scenes on both sides of the surrounding streets began to change. There were noticeably more patrolling police cars on the street, and numerous restaurants with German signage kept appearing, where many Germans sat inside, enjoying their meals.

"We have arrived, sir."

Parking the car in front of the embassy, Colin glanced at the heavily guarded German embassy and the protesters holding signs in front of it.

Turning to the passenger behind him, he said, "That will be $46. Would you like to pay in cash or by card?"

"No need for change."

Casually taking out two banknotes from his wallet, the man threw them at Colin, without even looking back, and got out of the car.

"Sir, sir!"

Watching the man walk away, Colin frowned and picked up the bills.

As he examined the currency in his hand, his expression showed some astonishment.

On the front side of the two banknotes was an image of a man with a side-parted hairstyle, a small mustache below his nose. A large number 5 was printed on the left, indicating the value of the banknote.

It was not the familiar U.S. dollar or any other currency known to Colin; it was the German mark.

A currency that had been replaced in Colin's original world.
