"Lord Cedric, we've received troubling news from our intelligence sources in the hill countries," Rickie stood behind me, his voice tinged with urgency.

I had just concluded a meeting with the council regarding Cerise's death and now he was here to deliver news from our top spies in the hill countries of Nevea.

"Go ahead and tell me what this bad news is," I said, turning to face him, watching his lips as he began to reveal the dire tidings.

"The prisoner who escaped the dungeon has somehow found her way into the embrace of Ragnar, the beta of the hill countries' alpha and rumored head of the secret order," Rickie announced, his tone carrying an unusual sense of panic.

"So?" I inquired, not displaying any immediate concern.
