"This woman is dangerous."
After exchanging looks, Abel immediately came to such a conclusion.
Before figuring out the situation in this world, he chose to keep a low profile.
So he withdrew his gaze and quietly merged into the crowd, disappearing.
"Strange, why does that person give me a familiar feeling?"
Makima, with her pink hair tied into a single braid, muttered in her heart.
She suddenly had the impulse to chase after him and ask for clarification.
But she immediately suppressed it.
On the other hand, Abel, who seemed to be wandering aimlessly, had actually gathered quite a lot of information through newspapers and other media.
Firstly, he was now in a place called Nerima District in Tokyo.
Secondly, in this world, facts about demons and demon hunters are publicly known, and are often reported on TV.
That's to be expected since if incidents like the one just now were common, they'd be impossible to hide.
He then learned some basic information about demons and demon hunters.
Devils are born with the names of all things including animals, plants, concepts, and are monsters that surpass human intellect.
It is believed that the more terrifying the name, the more powerful the demon.
Moreover, demons can sustain their strength and heal their wounds by consuming human blood.
In other words, not only could there be Sea Cucumber Devils, but also Bread Devils, Tomato Devils, Celery Devils, and even the terrifying Big Bundy Devils, and so on.
So who the hell is afraid of sea cucumbers anyway?!
Abel couldn't help but vent his frustration.
Devil hunters refer to those who make contracts with demons and hunt demons for a living, including the government's "Official Devil Special Task Force" and private demon hunters. (Official is a euphemism; the two characters are avoided to prevent issues, just so everyone knows)
The good news is that the demons in this world can be eliminated, and they can be dealt with through physical means.
No need to rely exclusively on a demon's power to fight against them.
However, most demon hunters still need to use the power of demons to hunt other demons.
One last piece of trivia, it seems that those who make contracts with demons pay a corresponding price each time they use a demon's power.
The price could be anything from one's lifespan to a part of an organ in the body, or something else.
As a result, whether official or private, demon hunters often don't live long, either dying in the fight against demons or having their lives taken as payment by the contracted demon.
"Being a demon hunter is always a high-risk job, no matter the time," Abel couldn't help commenting.
However, what's this Dread Weapon Person—Katana all about?
Where would he even begin to look for this Katana Devil?
It's all so baffling.
Abel decided to buy a couple of packs of cigarettes to clear his head.
As for money, it was kindly 'lent' to him by a few pleasant-looking 'biker gang' members.
To thank them, he performed a little show on how to dismantle a motorcycle by hand.
But once he entered the store, Abel was hit with indecision.
Mainly because he didn't recognize any of the cigarette brands and wasn't sure which one to choose.
Thankfully he didn't have trouble making decisions, so he simply pointed at a random pack.
Unexpectedly, the shopkeeper just glanced at him and pointed to a sign beside him.
It read: "The sale of tobacco and alcohol to minors is prohibited. "Well, that was a close one. Almost forgot about that.
But this is no problem for Abel. He flashed his muscular arms and said with a dangerous look in his eyes, "I'm already in my thirties, just with a babyface. Have you ever seen a minor as tall and muscular as me?"
The shopkeeper was startled and then noticed Abel's height of over 1.7 meters and his well-built and proportionate figure.
"I apologize, it's just that you look very youthful."
The shopkeeper hastily apologized. He had just taken out the cigarettes when Abel heard a short-haired woman wearing an eye patch over her right eye say, "These are not for beginners. Shopkeeper, give him my brand and get me another pack as well."
The cigarettes were named "WildRaven," literally translated as wild crow, which is why everyone called them Wild Crow cigarettes.
The shopkeeper didn't dare to decide for himself but looked to Abel.
Abel nonchalantly nodded, "Follow her advice."
"It's on me."
"Then I won't be polite."
After receiving the cigarettes, Abel casually tossed a pack to the woman and took out a newly bought lighter to skillfully light up for himself.
"Didn't expect you to be seasoned? Even I was fooled by you."
Outside the store, the woman with the eye patch gave him a surprised look and then shook her head wordlessly.
"It's just that my usual brand isn't available here, so I was momentarily indecisive."
Abel casually explained.
"Oh? What brand do you usually smoke? How's the taste? Does it perk you up?"
"Uh, it's alright. You wouldn't know the brand I mentioned, it's foreign, and you can't buy it here."
"That's a shame."
The two strangers just stood there and struck up a conversation.
It wasn't until they had finished their cigarettes that the woman with the eye patch suggested parting ways.
"It was nice chatting with you, but I have work to do. I need to be going."
"Working overtime this late? Your boss must be quite heartless."
"Right? Haha! I feel the same, but there's nothing I can do. I need to make a living. By the way, I don't know your name yet?"
"Abel, and you?"
"My name is Himeno. Leave your contact information, let's grab a drink sometime."
"Hold on, Himeno? What do you do for work?"
"Didn't I tell you? I'm an official Devil Hunter."
That made sense.
Abel hadn't expected any leads on the 'main quest' yet, but here was the person he needed to protect for a 'side quest,' appearing in such a dramatic manner.
"What's the matter, you don't want to? Then forget it."
Himeno thought he had gone silent because he was frightened by her status.
"I was just thinking, if I told you that my phone was just stolen, would you think I'm brushing you off?"
"Hahahaha! Really? Then you're really out of luck!"
"So, before I buy a new phone, give me your contact first, and I'll call you after I've got it."
"Sure, make sure you remember it."
Abel nodded to indicate he had remembered it.
Then the two went their separate ways.
Of course, that was just on the surface.
In reality, Abel used the Breath of Darkness to mask his presence and quietly followed her, tailing her until he saw Himeno enter a building that seemed to be the Devil Hunters' official headquarters. Only then did he slowly leave.
Before any progress on the 'main quest', ensuring that the 'side quest' stays trouble-free was also a good choice.
