Mary felt like she had won half of the war when Nick hugged her back but she did not notice his eyes went cold. His face was devoid of every emotion.

When she raised her head again, his expression had changed completely. He was looking at her with a helpless gaze.

"You will be the death of me," he muttered when she laughed.

"I know it is troubling. But I will not let you die. I will be with you forever." her chuckle, her whispers, her promises, he stared hard at her face. How wonderful it would have been if they were true.

"Go and rest. We will discuss this matter again later." he patted her back but she shook her head and sat on the sofa again.
