As the smoke from the fire blackened the sky, the air became thick with the acrid smell of burning wood and debris. Godfrey was walking through the French army camp, keeping a tissue in his nose to prevent the thickening smell of smoke from entering his nose. His armor clicked and clanked with each step, signaling his approach. Normally, common soldiers would lightly bow in respect to him because he was at the bottom of the noble society's hierarchy, but on that day, the soldiers did not even raise their heads and kept their gaze fixed on the ground. Their backs ached from the realization that they were stranded in enemy territory without food or reinforcements , which weighed heavily on their shoulders.
