บท 7: Fourth Gu Worm
Ten days had passed, and on the academy grounds, Mo Bei had garnered the envy and admiration of many students. Daily, they sought him out for advice on refining Gu. Both Chi Chen and Fang Zheng looked at him with admiration.
While Mo Bei assessed Fang Zheng as pretty strong, he could not deny the fact that Chi Chen was a bit lacking. Although everyone believed him to be a B-grade talent, Mo Bei knew from the book that his grandfather had actually cheated to allow Chi Chen to inherit the position of family head without setback. As his grandfather was quite old already, he made preparations to pass down the position of family head as soon as Chi Chen would reach rank 2, and without proper talent, then many Gu Masters from the fmaily would leave.
Still, Chi Chen was the third person to refine the moonlight Gu, after Mo Bei and Fang Zheng.
As the academy elder announced the Moonlight Gu demonstration, Mo Bei stood out from the crowd. His eyes held an intensity that the other students lacked. While Fang Yuan and the other average students watched uninterestedly, Mo Bei studied the demonstration, taking in every detail.
After the demonstration, the academy elder called forward those who had refined the Moonlight Gu to practice attacking with a grass puppet. Mo Bei stepped forward with confidence, knowing that he had refined his Gu to a level beyond his peers.
The academy elder approached Mo Bei and asked how he was doing with shooting the Moonlight blade. Mo Bei's response was confident and succinct, showing the elder that he had already mastered the use of the Moonlight Gu.
When asked to shoot a blade to demonstrate his capabilities, Mo Bei did not hesitate. He expertly aimed and shot the blade, hitting the grass puppet with perfect precision. Even Gu Yue Mo Chen, who had trained Mo Bei at home, was impressed by his talent. Thus, a mere rank 2 instructor could not find any flaw in his technique.
As Fang Zheng watched Mo Bei's expert use of the Moonlight blade from the corner of his eye, he realized the gap between them.
"Just you wait, Mo Bei...You must have benefitted greatly from coming from a great family, but at the end of the day, I have greater talent than you", Fang Zheng muttered
Mo Bei could hear him, but ignored his presence. The stronger Fang Zheng became, the better it would be for the beast tides.
Mo Bei knew that to truly master the use of Gu, he needed to attain a deep understanding of the Great Dao. While others focused only on refining their Gu to compete in the upcoming moonblade assessment, Mo Bei was already looking beyond, seeking to reach a level of mastery that would set him apart from his peers.
As the moonblade assessment approached, Mo Bei knew that he could easily win.
Using his grandfather's connections, Mo Bei also managed to purchase a [Little Light Gu]. Little Light Gu is a renowned Gu that provides light path assistance and enhances the power and effectiveness of specific gu worms, including Moonlight Gu, when used together. Appearance-wise, Little Light Gu is a tiny five-pointed star that emits milky white light and is about half the size of a fingernail.
However, Mo Bei knew that it was the most fitting Gu for the current him. In terms of ability, Little Light Gu can not only boost the power of other gu worms, such as Moonlight Gu, but also serve as a source of illumination for the user's surroundings.
To activate its power, a Gu Master injects primeval essence into Little Light Gu, which then transfers its energy to Moonlight Gu, enhancing its potency.
Little Light Gu is a perfect complement and support for Moonlight Gu, with its usage resulting in a 100% increase in the latter's attacking power and attack range. Notably, this increase is not cumulative, and the effect of two Little Light Gu is the same as that of one.
Through his dedication and focus, Mo Bei had already set himself apart from the other students. As he continued on his path, he knew that he would one day become a true master of the Great Dao, surpassing even the greatest Gu Masters that had come before him.
Back home, Mo Bei looked at the notes he had taken from his Gu worms.
