บท 118: Getting Ready
I think my exhaustion finally caught up with me as I was woken up quite late this morning by Ayuri, who had to literally drag me out.
"Ughhh..." I groaned as she ripped the sheets out from under me.
"Mistress, I understand that you're tired, but you have to get out of bed now or else you might not be able to extricate yourself later for miss Cythistia." Those words were enough to make me want to get out, but for some reason, I just couldn't muster up the will to do so today.
I grumbled continuously as my maid did her best to rip the sheets off of me, slowly pulling me along with them.
And eventually, she just pulled me right off along with the covers, making me fall to the floor, finally waking me up.
"I apologise for the rough wake up call, but it's time for breakfast and you need to get ready for your date."
I grumbled and reluctantly got up, rubbing my face.
I don't know why I'm like this today, normally I'd be up by now, but for some reason I just feel so lethargic. Why? I'm normally really good at time management, even when tired.
Ayuri seemed to share in my confusion as she asked with worry, "Is something the matter to cause you such issues?"
'I don't know, I just woke up feeling like this.' I answered.
"Hmm… The only thing I can think of that would cause this, is the Winter Advent." Ayuri suggested. "It's possible that, as a desert serpent, your body would want to hibernate. At least, that's just a theory of mine."
"Ugghhh…" I groaned once more, as if that truly was the case, then I'm either not waking up, or I'm not coming home from work. Neither of those sounded good.
"Let me get you dressed for breakfast, then you can ask the Velphine's for help." Ayuri suggested once more as she headed to my wardrobe to pick out some clothes.
While she did that, I slithered over to the window and looked outside, and was awestruck by what I saw.
A snowfall.
It drifted down from the sky onto the surface beneath it, creating a layer of pristine colourlessness that shone in the suns ray's, giving it a natural sparkling glow that reflected in my eyes.
The streets were mostly empty as the festival would be happening in the evening, leaving the scene before me in perfect harmony as the snow fell.
"Mistress." Ayuri called out to me.
I turned back to see her holding some slightly thicker clothes in hand and presenting them to me. I took them out of her hands and found them to be heavier than normal. I look up at her with a questioning gaze.
"If you really are affected by the cold causing you to want to hibernate, then you should probably wear something warmer, and even if that isn't the case, it would be advised you wear this anyways.
"Nn." I put them on and could instantly feel the change, I felt so much better and so much warmer.
But this made me have doubts about whether or not the robes I had custom made for the festival would be sufficient enough to keep me warm.
Unfortunately, there wasn't anything I could do about it now, so I would just have to tough it out.
With the assistance of my maid, I finished getting dressed and headed to the dining room for breakfast, and just like last night, Cythistia's family was there, but not Cythistia herself.
"You woke up rather late today didn't you?" Lycerous noted.
'I might not be made for the cold.' I responded.
"Hmm, you come from the desert, right?" He asked, to which I nodded.
"That's probably why, you're not used to such cold temperatures."
'Ayuri thought the same,'
"Well, a nice hearty breakfast aught help warm you up." He said.
I began eating and responding to the many questions that everyone had about how I was going to spend my date. I just told them that I would let Cythistia take the lead this time and that was that.
'Speaking of, where is she right now? I didn't see her at all yesterday.'
Her brother answered with, "Oh she came back late yesterday so she's probably also going to be late waking up as well."
'I see.'
Not long after we finished breakfast and went our separate ways.
They all went off to do their own separate tasks, unlikely to participate in the festival as they've apparently gone several times before.
As for me, it was about time to get ready to go out. I returned to my room with Ayuri in tow to put my robes on for today.
This would also be my first time seeing the finished product as I never got a look yesterday, so I carefully took it out of the packaging and unfolded it.
The white base was as stunning as the snow outside, with the dark blue embroidery patterns representing a giant tree with some red lines wrapping around it in a twisting fashion.
It was intricately decorated with the blue and red occasionally sparkling in the light, bedazzling both Ayuri and I as we stared at the immaculate brocading that depicted every line in the bark and scales of the tree and the serpent, which seemed to somewhat resemble me?
"It's beautiful." I heard Ayuri mutter in astonishment.
She was right, just describing it was difficult as there were too many things to say about it.
I shook my head and put it on, flicking my hair out from inside and tied the belt up in a butterfly fashion.
I turned to face Ayuri only to see that she was stun locked looking at me.
It was clearly a beautiful garment that would leave anyone stunned at its charm.
'Charm...'
No wonder she's stun locked, my charm stat seems to be taking more effect now that I'm wearing this robe. I hope it doesn't become a problem.
I looked in the mirror to see my own beauty. I don't want to feel too narcissistict but I truly was absolutely charming. I really hope this isn't a problem.
I then took a deep breath and left the room to go and fetch Cythistia for our date.
After asking some of the servants, I came to the room she was getting prepared in and nocked.
*Knock* *Knock*
"Who is it?" I heard Cythistia call out.
'Hmm... I can't answer that...' This was really awkward for me.
"Hello? This better not be some sort of prank." She asked
*Knock* *Knock*
I knocked again, hoping that she or someone else would answer.
I heard a sigh before I heard her asking someone to come see who it is, and when the door opened, I saw a familiar face, Alisa.
My face twitched upon seeing her. As for Alisa, she had a shocked look on her before she closed the door.
Then I heard some talking and I think some panicking, and after a few minutes, Alisa came out of the room.
"My mistress will be out in just a few more minutes so please bear with her for a while." After she told me that she promptly left.
And after a few minutes of waiting, Cythistia came out.

Wyvers With my novel being contracted now, I’m planning on making a couple more chapters free, up to 120 specifically. The reason that I’m doing it like this is because I don’t want the people who have read up to this point being locked out of what they’ve already seen.
Also really sorry for not uploading more frequently.
