Unable to trace the source of the deposit through the bank, Alicia started reaching out to people she knew. She called Basemmath first.
"Mr. Boyer, I received a deposit of 20 million dollars in my account. It was made as a donation. Was there some kind of mistake?"
Basemmath laughed and replied, "It wasn't me. Twenty million dollars isn't a small sum. If it was an error, your account would have been frozen by now. There's no chance it's a mistake. You should check with others."
Alicia thanked him and began to rule out possible depositors.
It couldn't be Louis. If he wanted to give her money, he wouldn't have taken such a roundabout way, transferring from a foreign account. The same logic applied to anyone else. After all, twenty million dollars isn't a sum anyone could transfer casually.
As Alicia thought, a name suddenly occurred to her.
Chuck.
