I was already tugging off my cravat as I finally walked into my rooms, preparing to go to Zara. I could barely think, I was so angry and scared.

He'd had an hour to fill her head with lies.

I'd considered going to her without changing, but by now she would be in her nightclothes, and I hoped… God, I prayed that we could rest together.

I didn't want to return to her as King, but as her husband, so after yanking off my jacket, then struggling with trembling fingers on the first two buttons of my shirt, I cursed and just tore the fucking thing off and started on the buttons of my trousers. My man had already left the long, linen tunic and trousers I preferred for sleep out in preparation to dress me. My robe hung in the wardrobe. I'd be to her room in moments—
