As he brought Cyndaquil out, the Pokédex was whipped out too.
"Pidgey, the tiny bird pokémon," The voice rang out, "Pidgey has a heightened sense of direction, which allows it to return to its nest anytime it wishes to,"
'Ah yes, Pidgey,' Bob thought, staring at it, 'a good pokémon,'
"Pidgey!" It shouted, flapping its wings very hard, creating a gust of wind that bashed into Cyndaquil, who was trying to escape.
"Interesting," Bob said, covering his eyes, "I wonder if Cyndaquil has any other moves at this stage,"
Bob checked the pokédex and saw Cyndaquil's moves.
'How convenient,' He thought, "Alright, Cyndaquil, Leer,"
The fire type was able to hear that command and let out a disgusted stare at Pidgey.
This somehow worked, as Pidgey froze for a moment, leading it to end the attack.
"Tackle," Bob muttered, taking out a pokéball.
'If this works,' Bob thought, watching Cyndaquil dash into the air, directly to Pidgey, 'then I'll feel good about it,'
He heard a collision, seeing the flying type fall out of the air, Cyndaquil not too far behind.
At this, Bob breathed in, pulled his arm back, and launched it forward, sending the pokéball like a rock from a catapult.
It was surprisingly accurate, as it nocked Pidgey dead centre on its head, turning it into a red mess, and into the pokéball.
The landing was gentle onto the grass, while Cyndaquil took a tumble.
Just then, it began to shake.
Bob knew this too well, but it was a Pidgey, so it would not be hard to capture.
It shook once, twice, thrice...
CLICK!
"Phew," Bob sighed, rubbing his forehead, "that's my second pokémon,"
Cyndaquil nudged the ball with his nose, curious as well.
"Well done, Cyndaquil," Bob said, picking the pokéball up, "you have a new friend,"
"Cynda!" The fire type responded happily.
'Though, it won't be a good idea to release it now,' Bob thought, 'I just realized how awkward that would be,'
"Let's... Go to Cherrygrove City," Bob said, returning Cyndaquil back to its pokéball, "I need to heal these two up,"
The walk was time-consuming, but not tedious.
'Can't believe I would be back in this town on the same day,' He thought, 'now where is this pokécenter?'
After searching for some time, Bob came across the blessed, red-capped building in all its glory.
And he entered.
His feet clomped against the tile flooring as Bob reached the front desk.
There, he saw Nurse Joy.
One of them, anyway.
"Hi, and welcome to the pokémon centre," She greeted, bowing, "how may I help you?"
"I'd like to heal my pokémon," Bob said, taking his now two pokémon out.
"Of course," She said, placing a tray over the counter, "please place them on this tray,"
Bob did, putting the two together.
"They shall now get a good sleep," Nurse Joy smiled, picking up the tray, "have a seat, and I will notify you when they are well rested,"
A nod came from Bob, and he went to sit on one of the benches.
Once he sat down, Bob remembered something.
He looked into the bag that he placed next to him and pulled out a notebook and a pencil.
'Let me at least do this now,' Bob thought, flipping open the cover and pressing the pencil against the first blank page.
His handwriting was not the best, but Bob could make out what he wrote.
___
Cyndaquil: 0-0-0
Pidgey: 0-0-0
___
Bob nodded in acknowledgement and breathed out.
Next, he heard Nurse Joy and walked back to the counter.
"Thank you for waiting," She spoke, placing the tray down, "your pokémon are in good shape,"
"Thank you," Bob replied, taking his pokéballs and placing them in his bag.
"We hope to see you again," Nurse Joy said, smiling.
Bob nodded, and walked to the entrance, 'Why does that sound so wrong? Is it just me?'
The thought went away once he walked out of the building.
Now was a good time to check on Pidgey.
With that, Bob threw the ball, and the flying type appeared in a red fuzz.
"Pidgey!" It squawked, looking up to meet Bob's gaze.
'From what it showed, this is a male,' Bob thought, kneeling, "Nice to meet you, Pidgey,"
The flying type replied, with an energetic bow, which Bob looked at with bewilderment.
'So he's flamboyant, not what I've expected,' He thought, releasing Cyndaquil, "Pidgey, this is your friend, Cyndaquil,"
The two pokémon looked at each other.
"Cyndaquil."
"Pidgey."
It sounded as if the two were pleased, despite battling each other before. However, Bob caught a glimpse of a devious smirk from Pidgey, and Cyndaquil tilted his head in confusion.
'I understand your pain,' Bob thought, looking at the fire type, 'but they don't seem angry with one another, so that's a win,'
"Alright, time for the both of you to train," He said, returning them to their pokéballs, and walking once again.
He decided to continue down the next route.
Catching another pokémon would have been good, but Bob had his two Pokemon in his mind at the moment, so he dashed for the grass.
It took a while before the next pokémon was annoyed by his antics.
"Hoot!" A Hoothoot cawed, flying in one place, staring angrily at Bob.
"Ah ha!," He exclaimed in return, throwing a pokéball, "Cyndaquil, Tackle,"
Still in the air, Cyndaquil tried bashing into the Hoothoot but hit the ground before doing so.
"Hoothoot!" Hoothoot cried, smashing into the fire type with its own tackle, sending Cyndaquil a few feet.
'Won't do that next time,' Bob thought, "Leer,"
Upon hearing this Cyndaquil unleashed a devastating glare, which made Hoothoot question its choices at that point.
The flames on Cyndaquil's back were blasting once more, complementing its angered state.
"Tackle," Bob said, which the fire type did all too well.
Cyndaquil shot for Hoothoot, who was not able to dodge the tackle and bounced off the ground, letting some dirt fly in every direction.
"Use tackle again, for good measure."
Before the flying type could land again, it was pulverised by an angry mouse and collected a one-way ticket to dreamland.
"Cynda!" Cyndaquil shouted, its back not so firey anymore, staring at the unconscious Hoothoot.
"Good work," Bob praised, returning the fire type, "Now, one more for Cyndaquil, then I'll use Pidgey,"
So he walked again, obnoxiously making noise.
Unlike the Hoothoot, this one was a lot quicker.
Because Bob saw it before it spotted him.
It was a Ledyba, hovering soundly, enjoying the baking sunlight.
Bob was having too much fun, so he threw the pokéball again, this time aiming at the floor.
"Cyndaquil," Cyndaquil spoke, focusing on the Ledyba.
'Oh yeah, I don't need to return Cyndaquil all the time if he is going to battle,' Bob thought, slapping his forehead, 'I'm dumb,'
He looked back, and the bug type met his gaze.
"Alright, Cyndaquil, Smokescreen," He commanded, remembering what the Pokédex showed.
Soon, a thick black smoke was spewed out by Cyndaquil, blinding Ledyba's vision.
"Tackle." The fire type heard this and ran into the smoke.
Cyndaquil was confident that the bug type was in the same position as before, and his thought was correct, for Ledyba's silhouette was within the smoke, and he pounced at it.
That's why when a star-shaped projectile slammed into Cyndaquil's face, he was caught completely off guard.
He was able to land on his feet, but the smoke dispersed.
And it left two more stars.
Bob saw these bash into Cyndaquil, almost grinding his skin.
'Oh crap,' Bob thought, 'I forgot that Ledyba could learn that move,'
'Wait, could levels be a factor in this world?' He thought, seeing Cyndaquil fly right back to him, 'that, I don't really care about, but I don't know if it's true,'
However, a noise took him off his thoughts.
Cyndaquil was back on his feet, but the flames on his back were bigger than ever.
This was normal but within the blazing and cackling flames, Bob heard the sound again.
He could not make it out, as he was focused on the enemy and to him, he knew how angry Cyndaquil could get.
"Use Leer once it uses Swift, then Tackle," Bob spoke.
"Cynda!" The fire type shouted, running once again to his foe.
"Ledyba," Ledyba calmly said, ready to unleash a few stars.
Cyndaquil saw this and gave a glare.
It did not freeze the big type but only made it hesitate. Though, this created a small window that Cyndaquil was able to jump through.
With a war cry, Cyndaquil collided with Ledyba.
It sounded as if the bug type's flesh and bone were evacuating the premises from the invading forces, which was Cyndaquil's attack.
The tackle did not stop there, as it continued to the ground, bashing Ledyba into the dirt.
Cyndaquil flew forward, sticking a good landing.
"Cynda-" A sharp pain interrupted his cry, but he was able to hide his expression.
Looking back, he saw the Ledyba was knocked out.
"Sheesh," Bob said, walking forward, "that was enough,"
Cyndaquil tried to show that it was still ready to go, but the pain was biting at the back of his head.
This was not seen, as Bob returned him to his pokéball.
'That should be it for Cyndaquil,' Bob thought walking ahead to another patch of grass, 'now, for Pidgey,'
He walked for a while, not encountering any pokémon.
'Weird,' He thought, 'maybe I walked past a few,'
As Bob turned around, he felt uncomfortable.
As if someone was looking at him.
He looked around, and his head froze as he saw another pair of eyes.
