Myrna squealed and grabbed Niko so hard, the poor man paled to the point beyond what Cael thought possible. Tarek swore in a language Cael didn't know. The jellyfishes dashed away so quickly that their passengers had to hold on or fall down.
Cael swore too, because he could estimate the position and the speed of both tentacles and the jellyfishes. Like everyone else, he knew their team was a second away from being thrown into the sky like those leather balls children played with.
There was only one way out of this that didn't include broken bones.
Cael grabbed Tarek with one hand and reached for Niko with another. Since Myrna was already holding onto Niko, Cael didn't have to think about her, too.
Then he crouched low and jumped down from the jellyfish and into the sea, pulling his teammates with him away from the tentacles' path. Only a split second faster than the jellyfishes would move themselves, but it was a split second that divided life and death.
